[Event] Invasion!

Characters: OPEN to everyone!
Location: All over Death City
Rating: Various
Time: February 2nd
Description: Witches have invaded and are attacking the city!

The attack, when it comes, happens quickly enough that Death City would have been caught flat-footed had there been no prior warning, but it's not completely unexpected because of the city's heightened state of alarm the past day. Warning sirens start sounding to alert the citizens and guests the moment a dark, slow-moving mass out in the desert to the south-east of Death City is spotted by Shibusen sentries. There's even time for civilians to run and hide before the mass is identified as an army of what looks like decaying, shambling corpses. The city's defenders are slow to move, however; most of them are distracted and are having trouble dealing with the black blood in their bodies. While agents are gathering to head out to deal with the zombie threat, that's when the witches make their move.

Portals begin opening in the skies above the city, disgorging hideous familiars: bulbous spiders and leggy ants the size of dogs. They drop hundreds of feet down into the streets and alleyways of Death City, and scuttle off in search of victims. The spiders are poisonous and can spin copious amounts of web to capture their targets, the ants spit acid that cause agonizing, paralyzing pain. Their masters bear down on the city in a cloud of black shadows--massive ravens strong enough to carry off adult men. There are five witches, women on broomsticks, beautiful if not for their crazed grins and obvious glee at the chaos descending upon the city. At some unknown signal--maybe the cackling from a couple of them--they dive in concert and disappear into different areas of the city.

Their masterful plan has begun!

[Few things get Aion to curse, but as he lands in the street covered from head to toes with sticky spider webs he sure does it, making several comments in his mother language that he would later refuse to translate if he were ever asked what they meant.

Wiping the webs away he ignores a zombie that has sneaked up to him from behind until all it needs to do is to reach out and grab him before his tail lashes out once with incredible speed and severs the zombie's head with its bone-like blades almost in one go. It dangles on a few last fibers of rotting flesh and then topples to the ground, followed by the rest of the undead. Stepping away, Aion grumbles, fanning his wings for a moment.]

Stupid low-ranks... [He had meant to enjoy the carnage, not to get his hair and wings full of sticky spider webs. Changing his arm into a blade, he frowned. Those stupid things had killed his mood; he could as well return the favor.]

Running was not in Barnaby's mind. Fighting... well, he didn't particularly feel the need to fight, but he wasn't going to stop just because some monster wanted to take him down. And anyway, he was still on his search for Kotetsu. With the city in absolute chaos and monsters everywhere...

Barnaby oddly didn't care as much as he thought he would.

Only focusing on glancing around at his surroundings, Barnaby kicked the bugs skittering in his direction as he continued to walk. His footsteps had quickened, moving as fast as he could despite the brief moments of shooing away any current pests. He just had something else to do - this was ridiculous. After all, in a city this built up with as many defenses as they had, where in the world were bugs and zombies even coming from? Absolutely preposterous.

Stomping on the head of a quickly-moving ant, Barnaby glanced around in time to spot his partner a bit of a distance away, attempting to square against a bug, or something. That only took forever; he ran straight for the older man, ready and willing to drag him back to their safe apartment.

[Hades][in the streets][Open]

[personal profile] kill_some_time 2012-03-15 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
There were alarms and chaos everywhere. Watching it from the first floor platform of a fire escape, Hades thought it looked rather interesting. Not as good as Pompeii or some of the other invasions and catastrophes he had seen, but for that with quite some unusual aggressors and contestants this time. The god didn’t particularly care which side won. He also didn’t move to help.

In fact, he looked almost lazy sitting on the stairs like that and it must have been a combination of sheer luck and impertinence that had left him unattacked for so long. Or maybe he just looked too much like a crazy monster himself with his corpse-pale skin and multitude of fur, feathers and horns so that most familiars had simply mistaken him as one of their own.

Whatever it was, his luck might end short since there was one of the big spiders slowly making its way down the buildings wall and towards him.

[ooc: action or prose are both fine with me!]

"Did I scare you?" Hades expression turned into his usual infuriating smile.

He didn't look very scared or worried over the prospect of almost having been mistaken for the enemy and shot.

[With that, he sprung forward to her side, his short sword already drawn and decorated with blood from previous encounters. Watching her out of the corner of his eye, he face the spider with his weapon ready.]

Did it hurt you?

No, I'm fine.

[She still has some minor injuries from her spree of violence the other day, but all she has to show for today's escapades is a bit of sticky spider's web on her boot.]

After the last two days, the warmth of concern from Gai was reassuring. "I see them."

Seeing them, however, didn't always mean not walking into a trap. Kakashi knew that all too well from having set traps himself, and from watching others set traps. Shikamaru, after all, had made much of his showing at the chuunin exams by laying all too visible traps that his enemies still foolishly walked right into, because they failed to see the whole trap.

Besides, the spider was laying so many traps, it was becoming difficult to figure out where Kakashi could move anymore without nearly running into one of the sticky webbings lining the ground and walls. Space was limited, and Kakashi was a fighter that preferred space to evaluate the battlefield, to set up attacks, and to retreat back and plan again when necessary.

Escape wasn't going to be an option without time to cut his way out. And that would require leaving the spider's victim. Kakashi wasn't too keen on leaving behind a comrade, even one whose name and face he wasn't familiar with.

He thought he was in the spider's blindspot as he moved in for another cut, but the lumbering creature moved its leg, forcing Kakashi to step out of the way quickly. It moved again, and as Kakashi backed up a second time, he fell into the web behind him, cursing under his breath. Any attempts to free himself--pulling away, moving to the side, putting his hands down--only proved to get him more and more stuck. He did the only useful thing he could do in the situation for the time being: he gave Gai's weapon form a good toss away from the webbing and out away from underfoot of the spider. There was no reason for them both to be pinned down.

[He looks over at Ran Fan, not really surprised to see her pop out of nowhere when Ling is concerned.]

Alchemy or not, I can still fight these things. [His short sword is covered with the blood of other creatures he's come across.] There's not really another option, is there.

He has little experience with guns and frankly, he doesn't like them much. His eyes linger on her gun apprehensively before he draws them back to her face. "Makes sense... how are your injuries?"

Visibly, she looked fine but he knew her type, mostly because she was like him. Even if she wasn't totally healed, she'd go out, gritting her teeth and bearing it until the job was done. It was part of the reason he liked her.

[Leaping aside, Ling hacks the arm off of the next one before it can grab for her.]

There was no disappointment when Kakashi was snagged, only a bit of worry, hurridly forced down. Gai needed to focus if he was going to take it down by himself. He rolled when tossed, coming back to himself except for his one arm. The spider seemed somewhat distracted by something else, and Gai took a couple of seconds to grab a stick and poke at the web. It was too sticky. If he tried to cut it he would be trapped too...

After a moment of thought Gai dropped the stick he had and grabbed a clean one, holding it out to Kakashi. "Twist the web up with that, perhaps you can get it off somewhat." He figured Kakashi would understand that the biggest priority was the gigantic spider that seemed to have realized they were behind it. "I will get you out of that shortly, my Eternal Rival!" At least the spider probably wasn't a Kishin. Gai could do some damage alone, enough to get it down and away from harming either of its trapped victims.

He charged in, ducking under the dangerous fangs as they drove toward him, headed for another leg and slashing the back of it as he ran past. As the spider turned Gai darted right back underneath its bulbous torso, scoring a hit against another leg and getting another satisfying cry of pain from the creature. His mind felt clear and focused like it hadn't in days. Now he was back to Kakashi, and able to scoop up another piece of debris, this one a metal rod, and hold it out so that his Rival could have more to gather webbing up with.

Once that was passed off Gai dashed under the spider again, reveling in the feeling of speed. He grabbed something with which the other victim could gather webbing with and handed that off too before turning to face the spider... which had gotten altogether too close. Sometimes he forgot the differences in his speed here versus his speed at home.

Gai threw himself in a roll as the spider lunged toward him, stabbing downward with its fangs and barely missing. It didn't seem to want to let him get underneath again and it continued jabbing, forcing him to keep rolling and moving from side to side. There was little room left, really.

And then it changed tactics, using webbing again.

Gai tried to get out of the way but there just wasn't time. The thrown web snared one leg and his momentum caused the other to be trapped. At least he still had the scythe, he thought, determined to be as much of a target as possible until Kakashi got free. The spider moved closer as Gai raised his right arm, and that's when the cry of a bird split the air. Gai looked up as he was hit by webbing and then the claws of a massive raven snatched him before the bird beat its wings, seeking altitude.

You can drop the 'miss', this is hardly a formal occasion.

[She grabs its other arm (thank goodness for gloves) and throws it to the ground, crushing its skull the same way she took out the first one. It's a bit gruesome for her tastes, but it satisfies the hunger, all the same.]

Hiya Leo! [Noon!]

[personal profile] motherofthesun 2012-03-15 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
In Leo's moment of stress, a hero has appeared! Well, a large wolf has appeared with a shield on its back. Its claws hit the ground quickly, muscles rippling under its white mass and black nose curled back. Its muzzle was visibly crinkled in anger and its amber eyes flared as it snarled viciously and charged into the zombies.

Fangs snapped into a zombie's leg while the shield swung around, cutting through torsos and arms, one zombie getting decapitated. The zombie trapped in its fangs moaned and reached down to claw at the fuzzy head, but the wolf just shook it much like a rag doll, slamming its head into the ground a multitude of times and into the other zombies. Round in a single circle it went before the wolf released, letting it fly into a wall.

The white wolf stared, panting a bit, but then snapped its head towards Leo and stared calmly at the Half, tilting its head curiously. It would take some time for the zombies to pull themselves together or attempt attacking them.

The End Is Near

Megumi looked extremely out of place, clip-clopping as fast as she could up the street in her wooden geta and her kimono and haori. The doctor was carrying her wooden medicine cabinet with her, and it was quite clear that she had been busy at work treating Death City's guests. Blood and grime marred her once-pristine white socks and lavender kimono, and one sleeve of her blue apron had torn open.

Hair haphazardly escaping from her white kerchief, she looked desperately up and down the street, worrying a red-stained lower lip as she surveyed the scene. It was likely there were more wounded around, she knew it. She couldn't just leave and get to safety, not when she knews that those young people she saw at the Morning Training were out there fighting on her behalf.

Nearing the limit of her endurance but nowhere near ready to give up, Megumi hefted her medicine chest onto her back once again and tried a new street.

Megumi was in the street already, medicine chest open. Her hands were full of gauze and she was kneeling on the cobblestones, treating a wound on a man's leg. Apparently something wasn't right, and she glanced around.

"Excuse me-- you, young man," she said, shouting over to Bakura there and beckoning. "Come here and help me, please!"

Oh, but this is exactly like formal occasions where I come from? Trust me, the nobility is about as interesting to talk to as these guys.

[Ling lops the head off another zombie, sending it spinning to the ground. He puts on a smile to try and distract Lili from how gross this all is.]

And the perfume that princesses wear smells JUST LIKE THIS. Trust me. I think they call it Eau De Rot.

Kakashi did his best to focus on freeing himself, but he wanted to make sure Gai was doing alright, staying out of the way of the spider; he knew Gai wouldn't leave him and that worried him enough to speed up his actions. If Gai wouldn't leave him, Gai could die protecting him. Like Obito. ...Kakashi had enough of that. He was not going to let another comrade die.

Most of the web was almost off him thanks to the gathering method Gai had devised. Scrambling to his feet, he was up just in time to see the spider backing Gai into a corner. He drew one of his kunai and hoped it would at least be enough to distract the creature from his rival long enough for him to figure out a new plan, like how to effectively fight this thing without his Weapon. Maybe some of the rubble would work to his advantage, and his basic weapons from Watch duty. If he could just stay out of the webbing...

The cry was the only warning. The bird seemed to come out of nowhere, swooping down low to steal away the spider's latest victim. Kakashi threw a kunai up towards the raven. The kunai struck a wing, but didn't deter the bird from carrying off the partially webbed Gai in its talons. The giant wings quickly took it too high for Kakashi's range. It would be pointless and foolish to waste what few weapons he had left on a target he couldn't even hit.

...even if...Gai...

There was no time to rescue him now, not with the immediate threat of the spider still in front of Kakashi. Kakashi called out to the other spider-victim, demanding to know if the man was a weapon or a meister.

He was fortunate. Weapon.

As his hand closed around the unfamiliar hilt of the broadsword, and his body buzzed with the heat of an incomplete resonance, a sense of duty and of survival were the only things numbing that familiar sinking bitterness of failure.

He would bring Gai back. He had to. Kakashi could not face Obito, or his team, or himself, if he failed another precious person.

Saya was running through the city. She wanted to learn about these things and she wanted to see what they were capable of. Bugs and birds didn’t bother her either, only those things that could be called “zombies”. For Saya, they were her main and only worry. And oh boy, she knew how to avoid them; it was strange, but with the morning training, her survival instincts and what she has dealt with in her world, this new “Z-day” was a lot easier to deal with to the point of making her confident.

Not enough to stop and help a girl who was running from them, though. Saya’s eye spotted Tomoe and decided to let her be. There were just too many things for Saya to deal with and she couldn’t help everyone; she had to help herself, it was how this sort of thing went. That was her resolve and Saya hoped it was strong enough, but it wasn’t.

Cursing at herself, the girl changed her root and ran towards Tomoe, stopping a bit further ahead in front of her to deal with a couple of undead that were in the way. Saya swung her bat, hitting a zombie right in the neck, which was enough to kill it. And she did the same again, this time aiming to the other’s temple, and with a crack loud crack, she killed that one as well. The moment she could, Saya grabbed Tomoe’s wrist and pulled her along.

“Come on!!”
