Time: 6am to 9am
Description: Training takes place every morning in the park to prepare the guests of the city for the ongoing war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on Friday, August 21st.

[Neji is staffing these in the same area today.]

[Neji attends training with little fanfare, like he hasn't been gone for days or arrived a bloody mess just the day before. But only a few people know about that, and as far as he's heard it, Lee spread some tale about him being gone on a business trip to keep from causing panic.

But for a business trip, he certainly looks and feels worse for wear, and beyond attending training, Neji doesn't appear to move much beyond what's necessary- hasn't even brought his clipboard with him today, because that requires an extra trip to the Watch office. Instead, he's simply observing today, and if anyone has questions, he's not hard to find.

Don't mind Amaterasu, she's taken it on herself to act as a sort of guard..]

[Indeed, she's not planning to do anything unless it might cause Neji pain. While normal days would find her sparring or sleeping in the garden, she sat besides Neji with high ears and wide eyes. No motion or sign was made to show, but she was letting her calming wavelength surround them. Extreme responses to his state would be dampened.]

[Ear flicking, Ammy shifted her paws and turned her head back to Neji as her attentive posture was broken. She woofed lightly towards him. How was he right now? Not that she could ask that, but she tilted her head slightly, hoping the curious appearance would be enough to get the message across.]

[Neji gives her a small smile, thankful for her consistent presence around him since he'd arrived. The calming wavelength has certainly helped through a few conversations so far]

I'm alright. Don't let me keep you from anything. I may not look it, but I can still look after myself.

[That smile is enough good news. Her tail wags and, while maybe she should give him some space, she's not moving.]

[It's more difficult to read the body language of an animal, but he thinks she got the answer she was looking for. He doesn't mind her guarding him, but he's unfamiliar with what she might need or want at any point. Still, she's free to wander away from him and yet she stays.. He's in debt to her and a few others now]

You'll have to show me what you like sometime, so that I can properly thank you for everything.

[One ear up, the other slightly bends as she cocks her head again, tail still once more. It's not that she wouldn't mind the thanks - and usually, she would love it - but he doesn't have to give her anything. He's one of those people that inspire the others and seeing him injured as he was alarmed her. She was needed somehow to help him.]

[Though, if there was something... She turns, facing him fully now and rests her head on his legs. Of all he had gone through, his legs had been fine. Curious, but good for both of them. He wouldn't be uncomfortable maybe scratching her head, would he?]

[Neji's smile softens as her head comes to rest on his lap, and he reaches out an obliging hand to softly stroke over her fur. A bit awkward, as he's never had a pet before, and he's not sure how much she's like other dogs or even cats when it comes to attention. Kakashi's ninken were far from ordinary dogs, after all]

You've done a lot for me- more than you needed to. I'm grateful for your support.

[Lee wasn't expecting to see Neji at all when he finished placing out the practice dummies. He was beginning to think that perhaps Neji had been sent home for good. But after glancing about the field after breakfast, his heart skipped a beat when his gaze locked onto that familiar face.]

NEJI!!

[Not caring what other people might think, Lee began sprinting across the field, fully intent on embracing Neji in a hard hug.]

[Head whipping around, she was not surprised about this. After all, Lee is his partner, but absolutely no hugs at the rate Lee is going and with how hard he's planning. Before Lee can even think of connecting, Amaterasu runs and meets him halfway with a leap. This would hurt both of them, but not as bad as it may aggravate Neji's wounds.]

[He's expected this, but it still doesn't prepare him for the barreling run Lee sets as he veers toward him with single-minded intent. Neji winces, not sure if Amaterasu can intervene in time, and tries to calculate the Chuunin's path and angle his body just enough to move out of the way.. But white fur leaps out and tackles Lee to the ground, and Neji relaxes with a sigh. Lee might be injured, but it's better than having his ribs rebroken.

But now he needs to come up with a reason for all of it without alarming Lee more than necessary, because he knows he can't tell him what actually happened. The Jounin offers a mild wave in Lee's direction]

Sorry, I came back with a few injuries and she's bent on protecting me, it seems..

[Lee did not expect the wolf to out-right tackle him, and Lee fell back without even bracing for the impact of the fall. Grunting in pain, Lee gritted his teeth and glared up at the white wolf.]

Amaterasu-san, why-? [But he stopped after Neji spoke, still pinned to the ground and his eyes widening in shock.]

Injuries? Neji, are you hurt? Do you need to visit Rosalia-san?

[She takes the glare for little and huffs back at Lee because, seriously, a bit reckless sometimes. Still, there's a dialogue now and she hopes he'll refrain from trying again as she gets off and sits on the ground again with a snort.]

[ he quite obviously was not on a business trip. and if it had been? that sure as hell wasn't good planning on Shibusen's part, because the way he looks, it's clear Neji had his ass handed to him by whatever happened.

Sasuke knows better.
he knows what happened, even if he doesn't know exactly how. and it's that, whether he likes it or not, that's actually on his mind. weighing on his heart.

he doesn't linger, he's here to train, to spar, to bolster the City's defense, not to socialize. but if Saralegui taught him nothing, it's that you couldn't get through with the minimal human interaction Sasuke had spent three years getting used to when he'd gone back to the ninja world.

he waits, then. waits for Amaterasu to be otherwise occupied, and only then does he seem to wander over into the shade.

August is hot in the desert, and Sasuke has been exerting himself. even if he isn't winded, he's damp with sweat, and the shade is welcome relief. ]

[He's more alert with Amaterasu busy- has to be, because while he could still take down a person stupid enough to get within arm's reach if he absolutely has to, his reactions are far slower and he's still vulnerable.

But Sasuke... Sasuke had his chance. Even with Amaterasu around, the Uchiha could have easily killed him before she could do anything. That doesn't mean he's any less watchful, but his body doesn't tense in preparation for an attack when the other shinobi drifts near]

It seems I'm indebted to you again, Sasuke. [Sasuke, not Uchiha, because he's decided that name is a curse he doesn't deserve- at least not here] It might not have mattered that my injuries were closed if you hadn't been there.

[ he glances sideways at Neji, a glance under his lashes before his gaze lowers and he pushes a hand through his hair. it's something, he finds, this world doesn't understand. it seems so inconsequential to them, how important a name can be. to anyone else observing it would seem like nothing— but Sasuke understands what it means for the Hyuuga to use his given name, and not the name of his clan. ]

I heard her howl. It could have been anyone.

[Neji nods, allowing that because it's true, but that doesn't mean it's any less significant]

And you could've turned around to fetch someone else once you saw me and I wouldn't be having this conversation with you.

[It's almost funny how little things like that work] So, thank you for your timely assistance.

[ his gaze comes up, a sharp cut this time. a statement like that wouldn't have been offensive to Sasuke four years ago, before he'd spent time in Death City. after Orochimaru, he easily could have walked away from a situation like that.

but that wasn't who Sasuke was anymore.

and yet, he can't help himself from asking: ]

Is that what you think I would do?

[Neji meets it without flinching, well aware of those implications. But the question does give him pause and his mind flips over an answer. Because it's telling, the different perceptions..]

The person I used to think you were wouldn't have come to begin with.

[It's a harsh statement, but a true one. He's never thought much about Sasuke, didn't consider him a friend or ally for the longest time, even in Death City]

We've never been friends, and it's possible that won't change, but I can appreciate the many ways things haven't turned out.

[It's the first time he's seen Neji in a few days, and while he's not eager to disturb the man who was way too obvious about discomfort, he was pleased to see the man back, worse for wear or not. He actually hadn't found any sleep in covering the shifts and doing what paperwork he can, but working that hard made him remember fond times on his world too.

He approached before he was to head to his stations. He inclined his head a little.]

Some business trip. Glad to see you back from your Watch adventure.

[The words draw a short laugh from him, making it sound like he'd left on some grand adventure and came back looking like he'd wandered into the wrong part of town. He blames his lingering disorientation and Amaterasu's calming wavelength, but he's still amused]

If all of them are like that, I believe I'll pass on the next one. [But his smile fades, and he glances off for a moment] I'm afraid I won't be able to aid in patrolling for the next few days.. At least not actively. I can still watch over it through Clairvoyance, but I don't know how much help you'll find it. Auron will remain in charge until I've fully recovered.

[He knew a rough up when he saw one, and the lack of usual activities was telling enough for him. He was expecting nothing save to make certain that Neji was fit to even be here on the training field. He knew Amaterasu wouldn't let too much by.]

Maybe try not to get so hurt on the next one. I thought you were fleet of foot. [A joke, a joke. He knew Neji was fleet... well not right now, but usually.] I'd probably tie you to a wheeled chair in the office if you tried to do any patrol. I've got my section covered, so don't worry. Just... don't hold typos on paperwork against me in the next couple of days.

[His smile is strained this time, knowing there won't be a second- at least not one he'd come back from]

I'll do my best. I don't even know how much paperwork I'll manage to get through, but I'll take a small stack home from the office today. I'd rather not be completely useless..

[But with one bad arm, it'll be slow going]

How have things been while I was gone?

[The strained smiled said all he needed to know about the 'business trip'. He had enough near death experiences to know what one looked like, but out of respect for Neji, he wouldn't pry.]

Don't worry about the paperwork. It's getting done here, there and everywhere. You should recover first and foremost. Work will wait for that.

[He shrugged at the question.]

Patrols are getting done. Paperwork is dealt with. People are still getting paid, so that's what's important. As far as I've heard, Auron is doing a fine job standing in.

[Neji's lifts a curious brow, wondering if they'd gotten any recruits in while he was gone, because there's always paperwork. But he hums a short note, nodding a bit]

As expected, then. No sudden happenings then, I assume?
