The life of a Ghost [OPEN]
Characters: Sarah Kerrigan (
ghostofaqueen) & OPEN
Location: In and Around the DOGS office
Rating: PG
Time: January 19th
Description: Sarah doesn't appear often in the public areas around the office, but she's scoping out possible entry points and in the mood to be bothered... or bother people walking by.
Cross posted to Livejournal as well.
While she had always been assured of the state of security around the building, there were times when a military woman just had to look herself. It satisfied her that no one had made an attack on Death City in a long while and that meant that the building that the Watch was situated in was technically very secure. It would be even more secure when Tassadar had put on the finishing touches on the generator as well.
Still, she observed the windows and ledges from the ground before doing the same analysis from the roof of the building and then from the buildings surrounding the Watch. Of course, it was always interesting to watch people come and go from the doors and moving around like this was some kind of communal gathering area.
Using her fingers, she could easily line up some of the people and just... take that shot. It would be a simple shot, but of course, she wasn't allowed to carry a sniper rifle within the city confines. For some reason, people got nervous when a trained sniper wandered around on rooftops with a loaded weapon. She couldn't understand why, she thought with a snort.
Of course, sweeping the outside of the building almost meant that she was required to sweep inside as well. She had no qualms about walking into closed office doors and then out again when she was satisfied. She had even less qualms about prowling the halls looking for suspicious characters. Oh she wanted one so badly, but Roy had a problem with blood on the floor, so she'd have to drag them outside if she wanted to interrogate.

She made a show of thinking about that. She wasn't anywhere near becoming friendly with civilians on as much of a level as he would.

"I do what I have to."
The harder side of him did not have to come out as much as it needed to where he was, which was honestly a good thing.
no subject
"Besides, that hard-ass persona you have deep down is better off away from the public eye. Let others take that role." There were some about, and it was better them then him in her opinion.
no subject
He had his hands full, as things were. Enough of that, though.
"...So, do you want to go back? Now that you know what you know."
It was a touchy question, he knew, but he was rapidly learning that the two of them could speak franlky. If she didn't want to answer, then she didn't. If she did, though...
no subject
His question caused her to shift uncomfortably, and it took her time to formulate if she wanted to answer at all. Her various conversations with Tassadar were continually bring brought up in her mind.
"No, I won't go back," she said simply, but her voice is a torrent a mixed emotions. "You?"
no subject
"Still thinking about it." A beat. "Why?"
It needed to be asked, even if he could guess at what she might be thinking.
no subject
"Because I'm as good as dead there," she murmured with a hint of sadness as if her answer simply scratched at the surface. "Would you go back to your world if you knew that you would become a merciless monster who will commit mass genocide and kill even old comrades?"
no subject
Who knew, really, what would happen if they decided to remain behind? Would worlds change? Would the balance be disrupted?
Did such a balance even exist?
no subject
"I read a post once asking about some kind of time paradox, and I found it interesting. Maybe he was onto something. The people here are just snapshots from our original timeline, yet our original selves carry on," she murmured, looking to the sky but not for answers.
no subject
And one that would settle a lot of unsettled hearts, at any rate. His included.
no subject
"It means there is no reason to go back without finishing business here first."
no subject
"I suppose we're allowed to believe what we will, right? Especially if it helps us get the job done."
no subject
no subject
"Well, enough of that. Got any plans for today?"
no subject
"How about you? Have you been sleeping in the office again?"
no subject
His tone was a little wry at that point, but he had to admit: a bed was so much better than that cot at the back, or his chair.
"I hope you've been doing the same these days."
no subject
She shrugged to brush off the topic. "When I have time, I get what I need. There is much to do, and I'm effective on less than most."
no subject
Sarah had been like a machine, during their first mission together. Roy did have to wonder about the kind of training she had been put through, to make her that tough, that resilient...
To his credit, he had not done so bad, keeping up with her.
"You'll keep me posted if you find anything interesting, of course."
Kerrigan, after all, had eyes on the network, among other things.
no subject
"Don't I always? I'm not a slacker like some in the office," she replied, though there was no heat of accusation in her voice.
no subject
"Yes, I suppose you're an inspiration to us all."
He'd be on the rooftop for a bit longer, from the looks of it.
no subject
She eyed his resolve to have yet another cigarette, and she had to give in to the urge to nag at him. It was going to kill him at this rate.
"Why don't I just punch you in the chest? It will probably have the same effect as a third straight cancer stick."
no subject
He kind of liked it when Kerrigan nagged, honestly.
(What was Roy Mustang's life.)
no subject
"Someday, Mustang... You're going to find a full pack in a very uncomfortable place, and then you'll quit the habit when you're absorbing that poison in your colon."
no subject
Yeah, he was pushing his luck. And maybe that was why he was rather abruptly changing the subject.
"It's nice, you know. Being able to talk like this."
Odd how he could get so damned serious all of a sudden, eh?
no subject
Her demeanor settles a bit at his next comment, and she purposefully huffs. "I suppose so. We don't do it that often."
