[Open] Hit the Slopes

Characters: Everyone!
Location: Mount Hood, Oregon
Rating: Varies
Time: July 28th - 29th
Description: Skiing! Hot chocolate! Snowball fights! Hiking! Folks of Death City say 'screw the heat' and decide to take a frosty vacation a few states away. COMMENCE MISCHIEF.

The discounted price came at a surprisingly good time. With the temperatures in Nevada climbing and no end in sight, it seems the owners of a Pacific Northwestern lodge took pity on the Meisters and Weapons of Shibusen and offered them a break from the heat. Despite it being July, the snow was still plentiful for skiing, snowboarding, sledding and innertubing! Dress warm, rent some gear or bring your own and have at it, they say!

From dawn to dusk, the mountain is lively on all sides, boarders and ski nuts to ski newbies enjoying a mid-week break while nature buffs take hikes over the trails on the greener side of the mountain, reachable by a short bus ride from the main lodge. Whether you're more into the powdery white or the vivid green, there's a spot for you to take a breather on Mount Hood.

The question is, where do you even start?

[I volunteered to put up the log for the Oregon trip, and here it is! Tag in to one, two, or all three of the areas noted and start your own open or closed threads within. Tag yourselves in (you guys know the drill), mingle, and enjoy!]

Well, there's a San Francisco here too and I've been curious to see it. But I guess it wouldn't be the same as back home. No Aunt Cora's Closet or any of the familiar faces from around the Haight.

I wonder if we'd all just forget when we do go back, like the times I got sent back for a few weeks. That would be kind of sad. [Her voice was a bit pensive. And perhaps, that was what still held her back despite the growing attachment to Lezard. If the war finally ended, she would go back and figure out how to get Miriam out of the mirror. And probably never see him again...]

I guess not. [She sighed.] Us just being here in the first place, people being pulled across dimensions, probably breaks a lot of rules of magic.

[She gestures for him to not be so loud, in case anyone happens to come out of the lodge.]

Well, I mean there are conditions. Like if you cast hexes, you have to share in the damage. It's why a lot of spells take a bit of my blood.

[She shook her head. He had to be thinking of movies with wizards or something.]

It doesn't work that way, not back home anyway. It takes a lot of focus and concentration and time. You can't just point a wand and make magic happen. It's why a lot of real witches weren't able to escape during the witch hunts and perished just as the innocent victims did.

And my powers came from my ancestors but I couldn't tell you what caused the first witch to be born or how magic came into being.

[She stood back and admired his handiwork.]

I reckon it's enough that he has a couple of friends. Why don't we go back inside and warm up?

[She headed back towards the front door of the lodge with a grin.]

Sounds good to me. Chocolate's my favorite. The coffee shop down the street from my shop back home made pretty good hot chocolate and I miss it.

Coffee-milk? Is that the Japanese version of a latte? I like coffee too but there are times when a little chocolate is needed.

[She smiled and opened the lodge door as he marveled about huge burgers. From bringing in her extra biscuits and muffins and the occasional leftovers to the shop, she'd learned that he did have quite an appetite!]

Have you gotten a chance to try much Cajun cooking yet? Maybe, I should cook dinner for y'all sometime.

[It wasn't until they were back inside that Lily realized how cold she had been. After pulling her gloves off, she rubbed at her icy cheeks to warm them.]

It's a type of Southern cuisine, mainly from Louisiana. My mama's family was originally from there and I have her recipes. I often cook them when I miss home. And the dishes tend to be spicy. Rice, seafood, and sausage are common ingredients.

Then, we'll have to pick a night after we're back in town. I don't usually have company for dinner. [Well, other than Lezard...]
