[Event Log] Mission #202 - San José

Characters: OPEN to those who signed up for the mission here, assigned to San José
Location: San José, Costa Rica
Rating: Varies
Time: May 29th
Description: It's an evacuation! Get people out of there and keep the kishin eggs off of them!

They arrive to sirens, frantic car horns, and shouting voices. The local police are frantically trying to maintain some sort of order: Between soul-eating monsters, panicked people and worse - people who step forward and swear they can take them on - they have their hands full. They're awfully glad to see you, and are happy to point you in the direction of where they'd last seen monsters.

But there's no need to be pointed, they're everywhere, both old and new as they're attracted by the fear and the promise of a feast of souls. Combined with spiking madness making them inconsolable and the shadows passing overhead - witches here to catch a damn good show and 'help things along' - the people here are in dire straits.

It's your turn, agents! Get the civilians out of there, and give the kishin eggs hell, but don't let a witch spot you!

[While Genesis' attentions were upon the traitorous kishin egg rampaging through the others, he felt terribly confident in the way Edgeworth had been performing in this battle. Thus far, he had seen a remarkable improvement in the way his meister moved and attacked, and he didn't even need to guide his movements throughout the mission.

At this point, he was starting to feel proud of his wielder, glad to know that months of this partnership gave way to a much stronger fighter from when he first encountered him.

Little did he know that this pride would soon start a chain of events that would leave him with the worst injury he ever had since stepping into the city.]

Give the traitor time to devour his fellow monsters. The more he's able to eliminate, the less we'll need to take care of to secure the townspeople. At the rate he's going, I feel certain he will be done soon. For the moment, let us continue to take down the others and speed up this battle.

Yes, but I hope he doesn't decide to eliminate us as well. At least, for now.

[Edgeworth's only regret was that his partiality to using two hands to wield the Rapier left him with no openings at all to flex his Soul Menace muscles, which could prove to be useful. Still, for now they didn't seem to need it, what with most of these kishin eggs being your general run-of-the-mill monsters, savage and single-minded.

One kishin struck at his arm, but thankfully didn't rip through his sleeve. That creature tried to parry one, two, three strikes of the broadsword, but a feint to the right completely threw it off and Edgeworth smoothly moved in for the kill. A second kishin tried to snap at his hands and he staggered backward; the prosecutor retaliated by slamming the hilt of the Rapier onto its head. So far, so good...he was determined to keep up the winning streak, being a prideful one.]

[While they continued to fight, the traitor Kishin Egg continued to devour its peers, tearing into them and consuming their souls at a surprising rate. And the more he did it, the more savage he seemed to become. Eventually, he was practically done and now began to charge towards the pair. Compared to the others they encountered, he was terribly quick. Genesis, sensing this, immediately transformed out of his weapon form to cover his partner's back.

With his arm transformed into the Rapier, he was able to beat back the Kishin Egg, sending him across the plaza with a great gash across his front. It bled black blood. He would have transformed back into his weapon form so Edgeworth could take control of the battle now, but the Kishin Egg moved too fast. Genesis was then forced to stay in his partially-transformed state so as not to leave Edgeworth open to attack. But at the very moment he moved his arm to swipe at the Kishin Egg once more, the creature's jaws clamped down upon his arm hard-- an audible popping sound was heard. He dislocated the weapon's arm.

Usually, Genesis wouldn't think much of this. He had been through worse in wars back in his world. But then he saw the black blood poured over that wound and felt fear chill him.]

Edgeworth!
prosecutory: (♙ away; and now that)

[Edgeworth was too busy trying not to get hurt (well, hurt too much because getting hurt isn't easy to avoid at a time like this). But when Genesis suddenly transformed back to normal, Edgeworth gasped and whipped around to see what on earth possessed the Weapon to do such a thing -

He saw Genesis suddenly engage the rogue kishin, but he wasn't at the best vantage point to help, as Genesis had already put himself between the monster and Edgeworth. The prosecutor contemplated protecting his partner's back in turn, but before he could make his next move, he heard the noise and flinched, deciding that his next move was seeing what had happened to Genesis.

What he saw nearly made him freeze in shock - nearly.

Cue dramatic name-yelling.]

Genesis!

[Quickly Edgeworth scrambled forward, one arm held out and his other hand gripping it as though his arm were his weapon of choice. All he could think about right now was that mutated monster biting down on Genesis, and it was his turn to save his partner, and he had to do something fast. His mind was a blur and he reached deep within his soul and let it sound as he slammed his palm onto the kishin's chest. Dark blue sparks arced from his fingertips and onto the enemy, giving its soul a nice jolt from Edgeworth's own soul wavelength.

The Soul Menace lessons with Stein were beginning to pay off.]

[The blast from Soul Menace was enough to severely damage the monster's vital spot and knock him away from Genesis. As soon as he was free, the Weapon didn't hesitate to transform back despite his injury. In fact, it helped to be the weapon in this case. This was going to help him through until he could set his arm back in a safe place.

Once back in Edgeworth's hands, he focused on the enemy, leveraging that want to avenge himself to stop any madness from seeping into his mind.]

Let's finish him quickly.

[Edgeworth didn't hesitate as Genesis returned to his hands. They indeed had to finish this quickly and make sure this particularly dangerous kishin egg bothered no one else. Especially not Edgeworth, who was more vulnerable in battle than a man who could change into a broadsword.

His determination to end this fight became energy he could channel into their resonance, and he willed the blade to burst into flames.]

Don't you dare transform like that again!

[If Edgeworth was worried about Genesis, he's doing a good job of not showing it and instead showing it through chiding his partner. But he didn't dwell on this long enough and struck the kishin egg while it reeled from the Soul Menace attack.]

[Sure enough, with the Rapier's increased power, the blade sliced through the damaged Kishin Egg like butter. And in a heartbeat, the being dissolved, leaving behind its scaly red soul.]

I can't risk getting you hurt.

[The weapon gave a dry laugh through their resonance. His dislocated shoulder hurt, and the wounds inflicted on him were deep. But he felt certain he could hold out longer before returning to base.camp.]

The area should be free of Kishin Eggs now. Any more civilians we need to evacuate?

((ooc: we can have the witch step in when they're about to retreat or while they try to evacuate more civilians O: ))

[Edgeworth was about to retort that Genesis couldn't risk getting himself hurt as well, but that would have to wait because yes, they had to check to make sure no other civilians were hurt. Trying to catch his breath, he surveyed the scene. Then he freed one hand to point at a group of stragglers. Or perhaps, people who had found a hiding place somewhere instead of evacuating, who were now only evacuating after Edgeworth and Genesis had dispatched the kishin eggs in the plaza.]

There. After this, we'll return to base.

[He stumbled a bit as he started forward, wincing as he shook one foot; one of those kicks either did it in, or perhaps when he had ran right at the kishin that had attacked Genesis. But he could still walk. Then he picked up speed and began directing the civilians off the area just in case a second wave started.]

Alright. The sooner we can get this done, the sooner we can probably stop worrying about each other.

[Genesis playfully quips. He knew that his partner had good intentions when he chided him for transforming and taking the blow for him. But really, he wouldn't have it any other way. The Meister was the one always in charge of the battle. If he is hurt, then what good is a weapon without a wavelength to amplify? It was only right that he did what he did. The fact that his Meister was less resilient against physical strain also made him more concerned about his well-being.]

[It'd been a pretty good show, she had to admit. She loved a good hunt, loved a good chase. But when those precious babies were killed by the hands of the Weapon and Meister, she was feeling a little peeved. But to see the civilian mice flock right along, such hope in their eyes... she saw red.

She was the Bull Witch. Could anybody fault her for having a short temper? She felt her magic stir, and as she swooped down on her broom. Threads of her soul gathered in her hands, dark curly hair billowing.]

Taurus tau-gaur... auroch tau-tau!!

[It was almost comical, the popping sound that accompanied the three bulls that materialized before the fleeing sheep and the two shepherds that saw fit to lead them. But nothing was funny about the ground trembling under their hooves as they bellowed and charged, heads lowered, horns glinting. Sitting comfortably atop her broom a good twenty feet up, a 'coy' smile on her face.]

[Edgeworth resumed barking Spanish commands. The people were more cooperative this time around; it helped to remind them that this may not be the last of the monsters.

But while the civilians hurried on their not-so-merry way, the second wave arrived much sooner than he expected, in the form of large bulls that charged toward them. Edgeworth didn't like the way the ground trembled under his feet and it almost made him feel sick to his stomach, but somehow, it helped to tell himself that it was really because of those bulls.

...which, in the end, really didn't help at all with anything.

And seeing the figure hovering in the sky? It didn't help either. That had to be a witch. As if things weren't bad enough.]

Aaaaargh! [He faced the people and gestured desperately to them to run as fast as they could. Then he activated his Meister ability to further egg them on in case they needed the extra egging on.] Run! Keep running! [Right now Edgeworth wanted nothing less than to take his own advice, but he knew that if he ran away right now, the bulls (and possibly that witch) would thunder after the civilians.]

We'll need to hold this attack off!

[Genesis gritted his teeth. It was bad enough that the kishin egg had injured him and spilled his black blood on him. It was even worse now that they had this witch to deal with. Concentrating on his resonance with Edgeworth, he moved to guide his Meister's arms, slashing at the bulls that came at them and cutting through them cleanly. Rather not make them burst into flames to keep the civilians behind them safe.

They would retreat right now if they could, but with a mass of civilians behind them still running for their lives, Genesis found it imperative to stand his ground until the coast was clear. He just hopes that Edgeworth is ready for this encounter as well.]

We need to keep the civilians safe first. Once they're out of the way, the plan is to run, okay?

[Screams of fear. Delicious. With a deep, rich laugh, she moved overhead as they thundered along... but scowled when one, then another was cut through cleanly, dropping with a spray of black blood. The third skidded to a stop, circling around. With a low, guttural bellow, it charged for the fleeing civilians.]

Taurus gau-GAUR!

[Hmph, they were too coordinated. She should multi-task, shake things up then! The magic bolt of fire took the vague shape of a charging bull as it hurtled toward the pair.]

[For the first few strikes, Edgeworth allowed Genesis to take the reins, so to speak, before he finally regained enough composure to wield the Rapier properly again without any urging. He wished he could do something about the witch, but he knew that to take her on right now was most likely not the best course of action, especially with the civilians still running.]

Then we have to finish this as soon as possible.

[The black blood didn't escape Edgeworth's notice, either. Black blood...but there was no time to dwell on that now. The third bull, before the prosecutor could swing the Rapier at it, had suddenly turned and charged toward the civilians. Great.

Edgeworth moved to pursue the bull, but from the corner of his eye, he saw a flaming bull - no, a bull made of fire, more like - suddenly chase them. Making a frustrated, alarmed noise through gritted teeth, he glanced from the bull bent on plowing through the people, to the other, blazing bull.

He picked up the pace and managed to find the energy to sprint toward the civilians, desperately placing as much distance as he can between himself and the bull of fire.]

[At the urgency of the situation, Genesis concentrated on their resonance, hoping that their connection would make himself even lighter-- to make it easier for Edgeworth to run, set some distance between them and the bull of fire-- and to stop the other bull before it could get to the civilians.]

Of all things, it had to be a fire elemental...

[Genesis muttered though their connection. What could they do about this...? If only there was a way to take out that fire... or make that bull run into the other...]

[personal profile] namelesswitch 2013-06-07 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[Things seemed to be going downhill and fast, adrenaline-pumped bulls both normal and aflame circling around in an attempt to converge and slam into the pair from both sides. The civilians were fun... but the way these boys moved was far too much fun to resist.]

What's the matter, sweethearts? You hustled with such confidence before!! Where'd it go?

[She cackled and gestured with her hands. She'll just have to trample the pretty boy and his weapon. The bulls' heads lowered, horns glinting.]
prosecutory: (♙ somebody shake me 'cause I)

[personal profile] prosecutory 2013-06-08 12:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[Their resonance paid off; Edgeworth found the energy to run, and yell at the civilians with his Meister ability.]

Hurry! Don't look back!

[He didn't take his own advice, and looked back himself at the flaming bull and the witch, in time for her to taunt them. The prosecutor set his jaw and was about to fire off an angry retort when the witch gestured, clearly up to something, and Edgeworth turned his head so quickly toward the direction of the normal bull that for a moment he thought he had given himself whiplash.

To be honest, he was not sure what was worse - the people being hunted down by a witch's familiar while a flaming bull chased him and Genesis, or himself and Genesis being circled by both. The latter was probably worse. It showed in how his gray eyes widened with growing fear and how they darted from one bull to the other.

But Edgeworth refused to let fear get hold of him. He had to think of a way to get rid of those bulls. Fire would work on the normal one, but what of the flaming one?

He held out the Rapier, trying to brace himself. Perhaps his ability could confuse those creatures. Getting close enough to use Soul Menace was a tall and very, very risky order.]

Edgeworth...

[Genesis braced himself as well, focusing not on channeling his Meister's soul wavelength into flames now, but instead on amplifying his ability. It was going to be a gamble, but he trusted Edgeworth-- trust his strong mind and sharp thinking. After all, this was a challenge that couldn't be answered by sheer brawn.

And as he concentrated, he could feel something tugging at the strength of his soul... something was making him feel stronger. But at the same time, a cold, dark liquid was slowly bathing his feet. He chose to ignore it, though. It wasn't his concern now.]
