[Steve hears the affirmation in Hulk's voice, so he looks around and spots a punching bag out in the open. It's always good to have one nearby anyway, especially during morning training. The blow will probably cause a bit of a mess, but he didn't mind cleaning it up afterward.

Gripping the handle, Steve readies himself and swings the ball at the punching bag, not really using all of his strength.]

[STEVE IS ALWAYS SO PREPARED the fist!ball impacts with the bag, sending it swinging rather violently, but not really causing much damage, or at least not enough for our tastes. The flail in Steve's grasp gets resonance-slip-heavier with a noise like a growl/grunt/huff all in one. We can smell that serum know you can do better, blood half-brother Steve. Come on, get ANGRY at it]

[Maybe because he's resonating with Hulk or that he is normally angry when hitting punch bags, Steve starts to swing the flail with more strength, definitely not holding back as much as before.

With each strike, some anger from Steve starts to bleed into the link.]

[anger? it's a cycle that can build, can feed itself. As they step closer to becoming one in that rage the flail gets lighter and lighter, while the damage being caused to the punching bag keeps brutal pace]

[Steve usually has better control than this, a tight leash on his emotions, his anger. But thoughts of waking up in the future, then waking up here, being be brought into one war after another... the frustration flows into their link.

As their rage intensifies, the punching bag starts to weaken until it finally breaks, sand flying across the ground.]

[when it comes to control, Hulk is pretty much defined by a decided lack thereof. So sorry, Steve, you're not getting any help there from us. Actually, if anything, you might be getting some of the exact opposite as someone accustomed to being fueled and refueled by mounting ire amplifies more than just soul wavelength.

After the punching bag finally succumbs to the onslaught in a spray of sand Hulk looses a gruff yell in its direction AND STAY DOWN before he turns on the tree which harbored it with what sounds like a sneery exhale YEAH YOU'RE GOING DOWN TOO]

[Once the punching bag goes down, Steve starts to breathe in and out, trying to calm himself again. It's harder than normal though, mostly due to Hulk's influence, and hitting the tree with the flail looks more appealing than it should be.

Besides, it's not like he normally stops at just one broken punching bag. So without much warning, he swings the flail at the tree too.]

[yeah, we are WAY past a few deep breaths. Steve might want to think about hitting Banner up on some lessons there, if he plans on trying this again. Bruce won't blame him if he doesn't, though. But speaking of Bruce, he's not really in a position to be instructing anyone in anger management at the moment, which is kinda the crux of the problem.

Breaking that punching bag? It just whet Hulk's appetite, sicked the dogs of war with a slobbery Pavlovian response. If that sounds unpleasant, nasty, Bruce would agree. But again, Bruce isn't here right now - or he's REALLY here, depending on how you wish to deny view it.

So the more Steve angers, and gives into that anger, the easier those swings get, the more they bite into the wood, the more damage they do. It's satisfying, visceral, consuming. It feels good, maybe even TOO good to someone with a bit more objectivity, if they're also vibrating with those vibes. The more you do, the more you want to do. It's addictive. It's an addiction. And to someone perilously close to the event horizon of that raging black hole, perhaps even scary]

[Steve needed better anger management in general, something that's not just beating up punching bags. And who else to ask but Bruce himself? Although, that will have to be later on, once this is over. He's not planning on giving up on this, Steve wants to try again on another day. Maybe when they talk more with each other.

Right now, however, he's just giving into the anger as the swings becomes easier. He's not one that really enjoys causing destruction, but he can't really stop himself right now. It feels... relieving, in a way. To just let go.

The poor tree didn't even have a chance.]

[no, it didn't. Because if Steve keeps this up, lets their angry wave trains merge and go rogue, he might be able to stay ahead or just be pushed along, left flotsam riding that never-cresting tsunami, left feeling the devastating momentum carry him as well as the flail in his hand, turn it momentarily weightless, render it a tree-pulverizing force of nature]

[With the flail becoming lighter, to the point of weightless, the damage becomes too severe for the unsuspecting tree. With one final blow, it finally topples to the ground, landing near the broken punching bag.

Steve will feel bad about that later, but hopefully they'll soon stop with their deforestation. His anger seems to die down at least, partially due to watching the tree fall.]

[that weightlessness, that power, it's so fleeting Steve might be tempted to blame it on his imagination, if not for the downed tree. Though he possibly has more pressing matters BEARING DOWN weighing on his mind than the latter. Steve's anger might be dying, losing steam, but the same cannot be said of Hulk's. Angry resonance is a bit of an oxymoron. Water surging in a single direction can lack a certain turbulence, but shift part of that current or add an obstacle, and the situation degrades swiftly. If you're not with us, you're against us. A triumphant bellow at the defeated tree sweeps, as if scanning for a new target - and if you're slowing, falling behind, sinking to a stop rather than riding that wave, well, you're no longer with us, are you? - before barreling into Steve, a monstrous breaker crashing around the overtaken meister with a deafening roar, resonance threatened by ugly eddies of frustration and a brute undertow. As quickly as that flail got lighter earlier, it sinks like a stone gets heavier now, SO much it might cause burning friction to keep it in hand. Steve could literally drop everything to bob to the surface, come up for air, but that would do nothing to calm those angry waters, turn the tide, just simply leave them in his wake]

[As soon as the last of Steve's anger dies down, his own thoughts become more clear, but the anger he feels from the Hulk only multiplies, the roar hollering through his head. It's so loud, painful even, and the flail becomes heavier than it ever has been. Steve tries to resist, calm the Hulk through their link, but it's not enough. Not when the yelling becomes louder and the flail starts to burn a little from his grip.

Even Steve has certain limits.

With a groan, Steve's grip loosens and the flail slips through his fingers, falling on the ground. With the weapon out of his grip, their resonance is broken for the time being.]

[and he's alone again. With his mind. In his rage. Turned on. Deserted. Trapped. Exposed. Pinned to the ground by his own new and strange body, bound in place by his own flesh that isn't flesh, less than helpful mental states - like bewilderment, exasperation, belligerence, and even a little fear - orbit a raging singularity, spiraling into that dense void, making it denser. And oddly, understandably, that green flail which thudded to the ground moments earlier sinks a tad into the grass as it gets denser too, the situation imploding into an instinctive burst of weapon-ability]
itsfondue: (Wait!)

[personal profile] itsfondue 2013-08-16 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[Steve flexes his hand a little, trying to get the burn feeling out of it. He hasn't had a backlash like that before, not when he was resonating. But trying to keep the Hulk calm is definitely no easy feat. He'll have to think more about this whole resonating thing either.

He moves to quickly grab the flail when it starts to sink into the ground, worried that Bruce will go deeper into the Earth. His hand might burn again, but Steve will be ready for it this time. Hopefully.]

[there's no burning, no rejection, not initially, because that wave has crested, water under the bridge. However, that's not to say what greets Steve is anything close to pleasant. All that water? It's currently a roaring whirlpool, a vortex of fierce emotions. It might not have you in its crosshairs, but it's indiscriminate, thunderous, and there's always the danger of getting sucked in. The soul Steve reconnects with doesn't turn towards him as much as back into him, as one would a wall in a fight, for leverage, for vantage. Here there are a few flareups of searing rejection, intense bursts in Steve's direction as choppy feelings ebb and spike, sorting themselves out towards you, your return. Hulk doesn't really forgive, or forget, but he lives in the moment, and - if Steve can tolerate those outbursts, ride them out - at that moment he'll accept Steve, in his readiness, his solid presence, and what comes with it]

[Steve grits his teeth and tries to bare with the pain, pain that Hulk is feeling himself. Or at least anger and uncontrollable outbursts that shoot through their link. It's like a whirlwind that had no plans on stopping. The only thing Steve can do is brace it and not let go, not again.]
