Warnings: Potential violence
Summary: The city is in chaos and the Watch is trying to do their job, but it's a little more than they can handle on their own.


The civilians have taken to the streets in a formal march of protest, holding signs both insulting and critical; some simply vulgar while others call for action- for change. They come from everywhere and don't stop until they reach Shibusen's stairs to rally with a growing mob of protesters. Shibusen agents gifted with Calming Wavelength stand by to allow attempts at mediation, but while they aren't violent, the protesters remain unyielding in their convictions.

In other parts of the city, trouble-makers work tirelessly to disrupt or sabotage businesses, paint graffiti over any untouched wall of known guest establishments, and harass the unusual-looking passerby. Don't go out alone, or you might find yourself cornered by these troublemakers with unpredictable temperaments.

The Watch is on the move in every district, working to protect its citizens and try their hand at peacemaking, but they're stretched pretty thin...

Auron was exhausted from extended patrols but upon walking in the Watch Headquarters, Genesis didn't look any better. Auron blinks at the wing.

"Did someone hurt it?" he asked.

[recitings]

"Hm? Yes. Well, people did. Back during the assault on the Agency." Genesis was seated now, having a cup of coffee. He needed a bit of rest before going back out into the city again.

"Didn't know you had one." Auron tried not to stare at this new appendage on Genesis. It involved some mental adjustment of what he knew of the man.

"Is it uncomfortable to keep it tucked in all the time?"

[recitings]

"I've always had this, really. You never noticed me using it once in a while?"

After all, Genesis did brandish it during that one snowball fight for the Watch back when Mustang was in charge.

"It isn't uncomfortable at all."

[nofarplaneyet]

"Can't say that I have."

Where was Auron during that fight? Probably staying inside to keep warm.

"Probably comes in handy with crowd control."

[recitings]

"It did come in handy. But it did come with a price-- it got hurt."

Genesis touches the appendage for a moment.

"But I had someone help me with it."

"Good. You're a good man to have in a fight and I'd hate to see you sidelined."

Auron takes off his shades to rub at his good eye. "These idiots out here are making us run ourselves ragged."

[recitings]

"You said it right," Genesis sighs. "For once, I'm actually looking forward to some rest. I guess I'm just not used to having my wing hurt. It's more of an annoyance than a discomfort, though."

"They're going to drive me to drink more."

Auron stretched until his spine cracked. "I started reading that Loveless book."

[recitings]

"Oh? How do you find it so far?"

[nofarplaneyet]

"Maybe it's written the way it is so it could apply to everyone but the three characters in the book sound like me and two friends of mine from Spira."

[recitings]

"Really?" Genesis' curiosity was definitely piqued. He adjusts the way he sits so look more attentive.

"Tell me your story."

The words meant so much in Auron's journey. How many times had he heard from Tidus "this is my story". Auron, himself had used those words and flung them back at Hades, telling him "This is my story and you're not part of it."

So many things happened to make up Auron's story. He'd kept it to himself over the years but he'd been loosening up ever since he came to the city so many months ago.

"It's kind of long, Genesis. You sure you want to hear it?"

[recitings]

"Well, seeing that we're busy... maybe a summary?" Genesis chuckled.

"The short version? All right."

Auron closed his eye to think. How best to sum up their journey? "I have two friends who aren't here. Their names are Jecht and Braska. Braska is the optimist, hoping for good things for everyone. Jecht can be a pain in the ass and couldn't use tact to save his life. I'm more the practical one. All three of us went on a pilgrimage that was something people did on Spira to give our world a chance to be free of monster that plagues it. Very few make it to the end and even fewer get a chance to confront this enemy. But we did."

He could never actually tell anyone what happened in that horrifying fight. Even ten years and more later, Auron's throat closed up if he tried. Summarizing was the best he could do. "In your poem, it said the three friends went to a great battle, one flew away, one was captured and one remained to be the hero. Well, we had a battle. By the nature of what he did, Braska sacrificed himself and Jecht as well, although cruelly transformed. I was the only one left. What I had to do to make it right is another story."

[recitings]

"Seems that you're the hero of your story, then." Genesis decided not to press on and ask Auron about the details. After all, given how sad LOVELESS' story was-- as was his own story-- he was certain that recalling the details would also be a painful task for the other man.

"But were you able to make it right?"

[nofarplaneyet]

Painful was not enough of an adjective to describe Auron's adventures. But it came close.

"Eventually. Not really a hero. I had to find someone else to help make it right. Then after that happened, I ended up here."

[recitings]

"I see... so it's one adventure to the next for you, isn't it?"

[nofarplaneyet]

"Yep. Guess I don't get a rest. Don't mind it too much." Because really, this is such a different place to be.

[recitings]

"So, do you like it here in Death City?"

[nofarplaneyet]

"It's...different, but I do like it here. Don't mind helping with their war either."

[recitings]

"I see," with that, Genesis rolls his shoulders and stretches out.
