Description: Another small BREW hiccup results in another "round" of unexpected newcomers into the city.

Just like last time, a very small group of individuals has appeared within Death City, and just like last time, no one even knew about it. Fortunately things have been relatively calm these past few days and it's an especially warm day today, so at least any impromptu help and touring should go smoothly.

[ooc: Just like last time, this is a consolidated log for the volunteer intro buddy system. Either the new character or the volunteer can start the thread. For each thread, indicate the character names in the subject line. Whether or not another character is pulled in is up to the players, BUT the threads are closed to the initial partnered characters (hence the "semi-closed" label.

The new characters are also free to start a thread with one another if they so wish.]

Yep. Pretty much exactly that!

From what I hear, if a Meister and Weapon that aren't compatible try to resonate, the meister won't even be able to lift the weapon. I haven't experienced it myself though... we're starting to think that my Meister Ability might make resonating with weapons easier for me, but we're not completely sure on that.

[Yep, that sounds about like what he was used to with the Evangelion units back home.]

So, Meisters have abilities besides just being able to use Weapons? [He seems to be picking up the information slowly but surely, though a lot of it still feels uncomfortably familiar.]

Yep. There's a bunch of different ones. Some let the meister do things... like one lets them shoot out lightning. I don't have a lot of experience with Meister abilities though. Other than that one, Soul Perception, and whatever one mine happens to be, anyway.

Huh. ... What about Weapons? Do they get some sort of ability, too? [He couldn't deny that this was pretty interesting information, and probably stuff he should learn.]

[Chika blinks as she realizes that she wasn't sure about that.]

... You know, that's a really good question. It's not something I ever got around to asking about. I mean, I think they do, but I haven't seen one in action myself.

[It would make sense to him. If one group of people got some kind of extra power, the other group would as well. Unless, the whole 'turning in to a weapon' thing counted for it.]

Hmm...

Oh, what about this thing? [He reached in to his pocket, pulling out the communicator.] They had them in the chamber...

Oh. That's the communicator. It lets you talk to other people here in Death City. It's kinda like a smartphone, you can send text messages, voice messages, and even video messages.

... Just don't ask me how it works, I really have no idea.

Really...? [Shinji gave the device a curious look. He'd never owned anything quite like this before - he hardly saw the point, considering he barely ever used his regular phone.]

It shouldn't be too difficult to figure out, right?

And yeah, it's pretty easy to figure out, though if you have any questions you can feel free to ask me. I'm pretty good at explaining most normal tech stuff. You wouldn't believe how often people from worlds without electricity and stuff end up here.

[He gave an even more baffled look at that statement.] Wh-what? How is that even possible...?

Well... BREW doesn't just take people from different worlds, but different times as well. Some people come from places that are pretty much the middle ages.

And even when they don't, two people from the same world can be from different points in time.

[The thought that there might be other people he knew hadn't even occurred to Shinji until that remark, though he figured it would be best to not get his hopes up.]

That's... pretty unbelievable...

I know. It's kinda crazy.

But well, I know from firsthand experience that it's the truth.

[He glanced away, rubbing the back of his head slightly as he thought about that particular situation.]

That sounds... pretty rough, actually.

[She laughs.]

It is. Being older than your older brother kinda sucks.

[That sounded like a bit of an understatement.]

So, does that mean your brother is here too...? [He paused for a short moment.] What are the chances of meeting someone you already know here?

Well... he was. Sometimes BREW sends people back instead of just bringing them in.

[She frowns, not sure what to say about that question.]

Honestly, I don't know what the chances are. I've had two people from my world here before, others have had several. And then others have no one. It just really depends.

[hedgehogsdilemma]

[He raised his eyebrows slightly. Why would people be sent back...? Weird.]

Ah, all right... [Yeah,probably for the best that he didn't get his hopes up.]

[Chika smiles.]

Well, don't worry about it. I mean, if there's someone you know from back home here, they'll probably see your first message you put up on the network.

[He'd have to remember that. It couldn't hurt to try, after all.]

... And that's something you can do from this, right? [He gestured slightly to the communicator.]

Yep. Do you want me to show you how to do it?

Oh, sure. [He moved a little closer to Chika, making it easier for him to watch as she explained.]

Okay.

[She smiles as he came closer to her, pulling out her own communicator.]

I'm not going to actually send a message, but in order to do stuff, all you need to do is choose one of these three things here.

[She points over to the video, audio, and text icons, all clearly labeled.]

Depending on which message you want to send. Then when you're done, all you need to do is hit the send button. It's pretty easy.

[He watched intently, finding nothing particularly difficult about the set-up. It struck him as very... computer-like and intuitive.]

And you can post it to... a network, besides sending things to people?

Yep. Pretty much like any type of internet message board, actually.
