You should say that next time then, hehe.

Reading? What genre? Mystery? [He chuckles faintly.]

It seems to be a quick way to get enemies here. That's all.

Mystery, non-fiction... there have been a few science fiction novels... [More than.]

Ah, that's true. It's a sensitive issue especially because there are so many people from so many different places.

Science fiction, huh? I've read a few of those myself. I don't suppose the science fiction in my world quite matches that of what's in this world though. Is the technology where you're from similar to the technology here?

That and the country we are currently located in tends to be a mixing pot of ideas for various reasons.

It is. However, overall, it's a few years behind. The communicator is actually the closest thing to my world's current technology.

Ah. Yeah, that's right. I remember reading a little on that. [Not a lot, though.]

Oh? So a, uh, what was it called...a smart phone?
pishirogane: ([Chibi] Urr...)

I suppose a full history lesson isn't entirely necessary...

That's right.

Well, if you know it, I'd actually be interested in hearing a little bit or even a summary, if possible. I tried going through a few of the history books, but there was a mismatch of information, and I wasn't entirely sure which I should be trusting since, well, it required me to be thoroughly acquainted with the history already to make that call, which I obviously couldn't do given the circumstances.

[But, really, he just likes talking, so even if it was not history, just about anything intrigued him.]

Ah, yes. Well, it's common for countries to alter their textbooks to include what is considered 'important' which often misinforms many people. Still, it will be difficult to make a summary and encompass a little of everything.

[They're supposed to be watching Guests practice, but no one has shot themselves yet. Now, how to summarize this]

The United States is a country that, since it's declaration of independence, is not even two hundred and fifty years old. It's part of the Americas which is a composition of two continents: North and South America. They were discovered in the 15th Century and we're located in the Northern continent. Anyway, the United States is a country practically built by explorers and immigrants after the genocide and relocation of its indigenous people. History books here will tend to focus on the European immigrants, slaves brought in from Africa, the expansion to the West, battles and wars fought, treaties and documents passed... at least, that would be a textbook at home.

[She taps her chin] ... The first Weapon was created before the United States declared independence from Great Britain. Strange... Perhaps Shinigami-sama's father... yes. [Sorry Hughes. Might have to get her back.]

[Hughes is keeping track of things, even though he is being chatty. He gets bored quite easily, though, and he likely would not keep watch if he was firing himself. Thus, the chattiness.]

Huh, okay. One of the texts I read started going on about how the United States was invading other countries or something like that? I don't know. What you said sounds like one of the other ones I read, though, so I'll look into reading more from that one.

[Hughes stares blankly for a little before realizing Naoto has actually gotten lost in thought.]

Uh... What about Kid's dad and the first Weapon? Did you recall something?
pishirogane: ([Kanji] Gentlemanly things totes normal)

[personal profile] pishirogane 2012-10-22 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
Invading...?

[Oh, she's back] There are US military bases throughout the world following the aftermath of world wars. Unless you're speaking about the World Wars in particular where invasions were considered necessary...

[She switches gears]

About Kid-san's father... Meisters existed for some time I suppose, but Weapons date back only approximately eight centuries. Still, you would think the conflict with Witches would be documented or affect this world's history, but it hasn't in the sense. Perhaps it's a matter of their supernatural status... The Wars was not within typical human comprehension.

Considering that the Weapon ability to shift forms is what most would consider supernatural, that isn't surprising. Most people know of the problem now, don't they? Or is most of the world still in the dark about the fight against the witches?

Yes and no. They would have to be aware of Kishin eggs at the very least... Still, I suppose early humans could pass them better off as demons or those from the grave returning to seek vengeance in the cases of untimely deaths or sudden disappearances.
