[OPEN] Mission 156

Characters: Open to participants who signed up here.
Location: Lake Tahoe, CA
Rating: Various.
Time: March 27th, late morning.
Description: The second of the three Madness emitters outside Death City is the target for this mission. Bundle up, everyone -- it's gonna be a cold one.

The mission begins late in the morning, to allow the mission-goers as much sunlight as possible in the warmest part of the day. Not that it'll help much… Temperatures are well below freezing already -- unnatural even for early Spring in the mountains -- and a howling snowstorm threatens to blot out the sun, beginning up the mountain where the slope just begins to rise sharply.

The slopes themselves are fairly barren: a windswept-looking tree here, a cabin that may have once belonged to the snow patrol there, maybe a Madness-crazed bear or mountain lion. Those braving the storm are lucky enough to see five feet in front of their face in these conditions!

Those brave few who manage to make it to the top (enduring falling temperatures and defeating the corrupted fauna and hulking kishin yeti along the way) may come across their goal at the very summit of the half-mile-high mountain: the Madness emitter itself, in the eye of the storm… And one last obstacle: the Witch guarding it.

...WHO TOLD YOU. >_> <_< I mean...that's preposterous!

Yako nearly stopped in her tracks when she heard that little tidbit of information, stumbling slightly. She quickly regained her balance though, and turned to stare at him with wide eyes as she fell back into pace. "Wait, wait...today was your first time seeing snow ever? That's..." Unbelievable. Insane. Tragic.

"I thought you said you were raised in Germany?" Though he was albino...perhaps he had been kept indoors as a precaution while he was young. Or...it was a sad thought, but perhaps, as the vessel for his 'father's' soul, he had never been viewed as a child at all, or let out to play.

well takuto isn't exactly doing a great job of being subtle in that drama club post...

[personal profile] diedforyoursins 2012-10-11 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
"I was." And it was true that he hadn't really ever been let out, but for once that wasn't the reason for his lack of worldly experience. "The event that caused my birth as a human also shifted the tilt of the Earth's axis, which eliminated the change of seasons worldwide. Germany has had perpetually mild weather as long as I have lived. I visited Japan briefly, but there is only an endless summer..."

The way she was looking at him was odd, though -- uncomfortably similar to everyone back home who'd ever reacted badly to him and made him feel so out of place. "...Is it so strange? I suppose in other worlds it must be a common enough thing, but..."
itaidakimasu: (Pout)

Takuto isn't subtle period. :|

[personal profile] itaidakimasu 2012-10-11 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
"I see..." Yako frowned thoughtfully, before looking at the ground. A moment later she looked back up, disappointment written clewrly across her face. "I wish the snow here was powdery, but it's all iced over now. I can't show you how to make snowballs or snowmen or even snow angels..." It felt like a crime, to just let him go without those experiences.

"It's a little strange, but mostly...not fair. Every kid deserves to experience the joy of a snow day!" Yako was adament. Even if he wasn't completely human, in the ways that counted here Kaworu was still younger than Yako. He deserved a childhood, and childish pastimes!
diedforyoursins: (♫except not)

good, it'd be hard enough to get kaworu in bed without worrying about being subtle

[personal profile] diedforyoursins 2012-10-11 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
Kaworu just arched an eyebrow, the corner of his lips quirking upward slightly. His body was physically fifteen, true, but he was still a divine being as old as mankind itself.

"Perhaps there will be another occasion for you to show me," he said instead, not wanting to spoil her fun. "Most things in this world are new for me. As many splendors as there are to be had, I think there is plenty to hold my focus until a time comes that such things can be experienced."
itaidakimasu: (Interest)

Also very true...

[personal profile] itaidakimasu 2012-10-11 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
Even with that thought dangling at the back of her mind, Yako sincerely doubted that a divine being as old as mankind had ever had the opportunity and knowledge concerning how to make a snowman or have a snowball fight. He still deserved a chance to, human child or otherwise.

"Definitely," Yako said, with feeling. "And you'll have to tell me if there's anything else that you know you've missed out on and want to try. I'll absolutely make time to go do it with you!" It would even be fun; like they were normal friends, just hanging out or fooling around instead of fighting a war against insanity and corruption given physical form.
diedforyoursins: (♫chill bro)

wow yako you are lucky he is too innocent and pure to make proper use of that offer

[personal profile] diedforyoursins 2012-10-11 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, what else is 'normal'?" He hardly knew enough to have any idea himself -- the works of fiction he'd been allowed had tended towards the classic side, so he wasn't exactly well-versed in the regular activities of a modern teenager. From his experience, fighting off monsters was the norm.
itaidakimasu: (S-Sorry...)

If he wasn't she wouldn't have thought to make it. XD

[personal profile] itaidakimasu 2012-10-11 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Mm...things like going out to eat, or shopping with friends, going to arcades with friends, seeing movies or concerts, going to festivals or fairs, playing games...that sort of stuff!" She paused, rubbing the back of her neck with her free hand a little shyly. "I mean, I'd like to think I count as a friend..." Though maybe it was a touch presumptive, considering she could count their interactions on one hand.
diedforyoursins: (✞kensuke stop)

[personal profile] diedforyoursins 2012-10-11 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Of course you are a friend," he replied immediately, tightening his grip on her hand and looking very insistent about that. "A precious one." After all, Shinji was more or less the love of his life, and they'd known each other for a day.

As for the rest of that... "I have watched movies with Eridan, but none of the rest," he admitted after thinking on it for a moment. "Though I sat with Mello at the cafe for a while, so perhaps I can say I have eaten with friends." He wasn't sure Mello would agree to the 'friends' bit though, whatever he though himself, and he hadn't even eaten anything that time anyway.
itaidakimasu: (Hee!)

[personal profile] itaidakimasu 2012-10-11 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm glad." Yako beamed at him, squeezing back. "I consider you a dear friend too." Which was a little bit surprising, honestly. Yako had always made friends easily, but this level of affection usually took some time to develop. That resonation had catalyzed the process; he had seen deeper into her than anybody else here, barring Sai.

"That's definitely a start," she encouraged. "But you don't have to think of it like a checklist. You can do whatever you want however frequently you want, as long as you enjoy yourself. What kind of movie was it?" She didn't recognize either name, but it was good to hear he had friends.

[personal profile] diedforyoursins 2012-10-11 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"All sorts. He called it a movie night."

Probably better that Yako doesn't know his friends are a genocidal troll and an ex-mafia boss.
itaidakimasu: (they shush me (shhh))

[personal profile] itaidakimasu 2012-10-11 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah, those can be fun." Yako nodded, nostalgia creeping into her tone. "One of my friends who was sent home had one, once. But it was all cheesy, B-list horror movies."

Unbeknownst to either of them, Yako did know Mello. He was the partner of one of her bosses, and had listened to her talk about one of the darkest, lowest and most painful points in her life. She just knew him under the alias of 'Morgan'.
diedforyoursins: (♫derp)

[personal profile] diedforyoursins 2012-10-11 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"'B-list'?" He can't tell if that sort of nostalgia is good or bad, so for the time being, his own ignorance can serve as a convenient chance of direction. "What is that?"
itaidakimasu: (telling me I'm running out of time)

[personal profile] itaidakimasu 2012-10-15 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Movies that don't exactly make the 'A-list'. They usually have really cliched dialogue and stories, and poor special effects that are more along the lines of 'amusing' rather than 'amazing'. They aren't popular, basically, but they can be fun too." She shrugged.
