[OPEN] Mission 156

Characters: Open to participants who signed up here.
Location: Lake Tahoe, CA
Rating: Various.
Time: March 27th, late morning.
Description: The second of the three Madness emitters outside Death City is the target for this mission. Bundle up, everyone -- it's gonna be a cold one.

The mission begins late in the morning, to allow the mission-goers as much sunlight as possible in the warmest part of the day. Not that it'll help much… Temperatures are well below freezing already -- unnatural even for early Spring in the mountains -- and a howling snowstorm threatens to blot out the sun, beginning up the mountain where the slope just begins to rise sharply.

The slopes themselves are fairly barren: a windswept-looking tree here, a cabin that may have once belonged to the snow patrol there, maybe a Madness-crazed bear or mountain lion. Those braving the storm are lucky enough to see five feet in front of their face in these conditions!

Those brave few who manage to make it to the top (enduring falling temperatures and defeating the corrupted fauna and hulking kishin yeti along the way) may come across their goal at the very summit of the half-mile-high mountain: the Madness emitter itself, in the eye of the storm… And one last obstacle: the Witch guarding it.

"Of course you are a friend," he replied immediately, tightening his grip on her hand and looking very insistent about that. "A precious one." After all, Shinji was more or less the love of his life, and they'd known each other for a day.

As for the rest of that... "I have watched movies with Eridan, but none of the rest," he admitted after thinking on it for a moment. "Though I sat with Mello at the cafe for a while, so perhaps I can say I have eaten with friends." He wasn't sure Mello would agree to the 'friends' bit though, whatever he though himself, and he hadn't even eaten anything that time anyway.

"I'm glad." Yako beamed at him, squeezing back. "I consider you a dear friend too." Which was a little bit surprising, honestly. Yako had always made friends easily, but this level of affection usually took some time to develop. That resonation had catalyzed the process; he had seen deeper into her than anybody else here, barring Sai.

"That's definitely a start," she encouraged. "But you don't have to think of it like a checklist. You can do whatever you want however frequently you want, as long as you enjoy yourself. What kind of movie was it?" She didn't recognize either name, but it was good to hear he had friends.

"All sorts. He called it a movie night."

Probably better that Yako doesn't know his friends are a genocidal troll and an ex-mafia boss.

"Ah, those can be fun." Yako nodded, nostalgia creeping into her tone. "One of my friends who was sent home had one, once. But it was all cheesy, B-list horror movies."

Unbeknownst to either of them, Yako did know Mello. He was the partner of one of her bosses, and had listened to her talk about one of the darkest, lowest and most painful points in her life. She just knew him under the alias of 'Morgan'.

"'B-list'?" He can't tell if that sort of nostalgia is good or bad, so for the time being, his own ignorance can serve as a convenient chance of direction. "What is that?"

"Movies that don't exactly make the 'A-list'. They usually have really cliched dialogue and stories, and poor special effects that are more along the lines of 'amusing' rather than 'amazing'. They aren't popular, basically, but they can be fun too." She shrugged.
