[OPEN] Mission 156
Characters: Open to participants who signed up here.
Location: Lake Tahoe, CA
Rating: Various.
Time: March 27th, late morning.
Description: The second of the three Madness emitters outside Death City is the target for this mission. Bundle up, everyone -- it's gonna be a cold one.
The mission begins late in the morning, to allow the mission-goers as much sunlight as possible in the warmest part of the day. Not that it'll help much… Temperatures are well below freezing already -- unnatural even for early Spring in the mountains -- and a howling snowstorm threatens to blot out the sun, beginning up the mountain where the slope just begins to rise sharply.
The slopes themselves are fairly barren: a windswept-looking tree here, a cabin that may have once belonged to the snow patrol there, maybe a Madness-crazed bear or mountain lion. Those braving the storm are lucky enough to see five feet in front of their face in these conditions!
Those brave few who manage to make it to the top (enduring falling temperatures and defeating the corrupted fauna and hulking kishin yeti along the way) may come across their goal at the very summit of the half-mile-high mountain: the Madness emitter itself, in the eye of the storm… And one last obstacle: the Witch guarding it.

"Sit down and take your clothes off, quickly--" An outrageous request at any other time, but he could see that her clothes were wet. He turned around, to give her a modicum of privacy, and shucked off his gloves in one deft movement, reached for the insulated chest containing the hot water bottles and snapped the clasps open in the next moment.

Was she more addled than he'd first judged? More severe forms of hypothermia came with disorientation and immobility. He couldn't check her sobriety in this small tent, and he didn't really see where she came from.
Kurapika stepped forward deliberately, as if trying not to make any sudden moves that would startle the girl. Maybe her hands were too stiff to work her jacket open. "Do you need help?"
She's not going to make this easy for you. =/ Just think of it as part of her charm. XD
he'll deal with it haha
"You're shivering, which is good, because it means you still have heat to burn. Your clothes are wet, and that's bad, because it'll make things worse. You have to change into dry clothing right away, and I doubt that you'll manage to keep a blanket around yourself while trying to take your top off--" He carefully unfolded said blanket and held it up by the corners in front of him, angled so that the girl now had a makeshift screen between it and the tent wall behind her.
"Here, just please do as I say," he continued in a lightly coaxing tone. "It will be faster and more convenient--and I'm not the kind of person who'd leave a sick girl even for a moment just to spare her modesty." And as if to punctuate his determination not to let her wet jacket touch the thermal blanket he'd purposely kept with the hot water bottles to warm it through, he raised it to just above eye-level, closed his eyes, and bowed his head.
"I won't look," he promised. "You can run me through if you catch me peeking."
LOL forgot Kurapika had to deal with Neon so he's had a lot of practice.
Her sword clattered to the ground as she dropped it unceremoniously; bending over to place it would have pressed her wet garments into her where they weren't already. She worked at her pathetic excuses for gloves so she could try to get at the zipper on her jacket. Damn, why was it so hard to pull that freaking zipper down? Thank goodness it wasn't the button up type or she'd never have gotten her jacket off on her own. As she did, the dagger she had hiding up her left sleeve also dropped the the floor with a clang.
Of course that's where the easy part ended. Nanami's student council uniform took effort even when she was completely lucid and had full use of her fingers. She managed to open her her top part way before giving up.
XD more or less
Ah, well. Even if he were inclined to peek, even if she did catch him in the act of peeking, and even if she were to take his oath seriously, she'd still be too clumsy and stiff to successfully skewer him. But where was the heavy sound of the falling wet jacket he'd been expecting to hear? Not being able to see meant that he had to follow the girl's process by listening, and he started to grow concerned when the shuffling sounds stopped and didn't resume for some time.
"What's wrong?" the blond asked, eyes still tightly closed and face turned to the side.

"... I should have full immunity for everything I'm going to do starting from now," he muttered into the air after another pause. Or he shouldn't have humored her in the first place. He stepped back and threw the blanket out, letting it drape over girl and covering everything below her chin. The ground was no place for someone suffering from hypothermia, however, and he reached under the blanket, under her shoulders, and pulled her upright, and with his other hand started tucking the blanket under her hips, legs--rolling her lower torso up in the blanket as best as he could, anyway.
And then he slipped his free hand under the blanket and started tugging at the zipper of her jacket.

The freezing blond had a vague idea of where she currently was and Kurapika's prodding was keeping her barely conscious. Still, she managed to get out one last coherent sentence even if it was an almost inaudible mumble, "I hope you're licensed..."

It took a bit of maneuvering to remove her jacket without dislodging the blanket, but he finally managed to shuck it. Her shirt--? No, it didn't feel that damp. Her shoes had to come off, too. Her pants... how inconvenient. This was the supply tent, and all the cots were elsewhere. Well, the supply crates were large and sturdy, and most important of all, the lids were flat. He wrestled one down and made a makeshift bed with two of them side-by-side, then retrieved the girl from the ground and laid her on top of the crates.
"Hey, stay with me. Don't fall asleep," the blond called as he grabbed the hot water bottles and shoved them under the blanket, between her armpits. "Don't pass out, I still need to remove your pants."
LOL Hunter Liscence
Violet eyes wandered to the person who was working above her. She saw a blur of yellow, so it wasn't her brother, Tsuwabuki then? Nanami heard words, words, sleep, words, more words pants. Well that was an odd thing to say. Pants...

"Oniisama? No, I said pants--that's right, pants. You have to get out of your wet clothes so you can change into a dry set, and if you don't wake up and take your pants off yourself, I'm going to have to do it for you, and then I'm going to have to let you run me through with your sword, which I definitely do not want."
Feel free to skip stuff, I can time skip next turn, she's going to be pretty much useless for a bit.

Dressing her in the thick cotton pants he'd retrieved from one of the crates was the more difficult part. Suffice to say, Kurapika was cursing himself under his breath by the time he was finished, but that was done, and he could carry her to the actual cots. He had a second blanket ready, and he draped that over the first one, too. And then he nipped back quickly into the supply tent and got more warm compresses and a thermos of soup.

It was on his fourth such round that he finally found her sitting up. "Oh, good, you're awake!"

"Don't worry, you should be fine now--although I need to check a few things just to be sure," he added cheerfully, and reached out to a nearby table to grab a digital thermometer. The medical tent wasn't that big, and was quite cramped, actually, that he could stretch an arm and get his hands on all the equipment he'd need--Kurapika pressed the ON button, and the device uttered a tiny beep. Then he fitted the nozzle against the girl's ear, and held it in place for the few seconds it would need to get an accurate reading.
