[OPEN] Mission 156

Location: Lake Tahoe, CA
Rating: Various.
Time: March 27th, late morning.
Description: The second of the three Madness emitters outside Death City is the target for this mission. Bundle up, everyone -- it's gonna be a cold one.

The mission begins late in the morning, to allow the mission-goers as much sunlight as possible in the warmest part of the day. Not that it'll help much… Temperatures are well below freezing already -- unnatural even for early Spring in the mountains -- and a howling snowstorm threatens to blot out the sun, beginning up the mountain where the slope just begins to rise sharply.

The slopes themselves are fairly barren: a windswept-looking tree here, a cabin that may have once belonged to the snow patrol there, maybe a Madness-crazed bear or mountain lion. Those braving the storm are lucky enough to see five feet in front of their face in these conditions!

Those brave few who manage to make it to the top (enduring falling temperatures and defeating the corrupted fauna and hulking kishin yeti along the way) may come across their goal at the very summit of the half-mile-high mountain: the Madness emitter itself, in the eye of the storm… And one last obstacle: the Witch guarding it.

She cocked her head. A Weapon huh? She gave him a nudge. She could lend him a paw... well, probably. If they didn't get along somehow, that was another story.

What did the wolf want? "Did...did you want me to help you?"

She tossed her head with a huff and nudged him. Nope, not that. She was here to help him.

It takes Zero a few moments for his systems to process what she wants. "You want to use me as a Weapon?"

Er, well, she nods; only if he wants to. Otherwise, she can just trot ahead.

"We can try it. Just give me a second."

Zero concentrated on changing form. First his arm, then his whole self into the glowing blue Beam Saber. The snow around him began to melt in the heat of the blade.

Well, his form certainly reminded her of an aloof prophet. She approached and pawed, knocking him over, but then nudging him onto her back. She didn't move immedistely because... well, if they couldn't resonate before moving forward, that would be bad.

This was different than trying to resonate with Six. There was something a bit...older?...majestic?...about the wolf. Zero had to really adjust how he resonated with the wolf.

A minute or two later, he felt something shift into place. There. I think we're okay. How do you swing me like this?

Amaterasu waited, letting her soul remain steady as the resonation finally began to click.

Her ears flicked at his voice and her mouth opened as she grinned. "Ah, ah! A woman can't reveal her secrets that easily." Of course, she was only teasing.

Woah, the wolf had a voice. A kind of teasing voice, like a young human woman. Interesting.

Well however you can fight with me, let's do it!

'Young'. Hehe, such a compliment. She grinned and dashed off.

"Just get ready. Some people get a little dizzy."

Zero didn't even have to ask how that was possible when the wolf began to tear through the snow. He grinned and decided to enjoy the ride.

Oh yes, enjoy the ride. You don't get much faster or fluffier than her in this weather. Not on the Guest side at least. The Madness is being diverted as well, unable (almost unwilling) to touch them.

Are you pushing the Madness away? He only now noticed that they didn't seem to be affected at all.

"It's my ability. Calming wavelength reduces Madness and sometimes fully expels it."

She turned on a slope and darted into the trees. That way...

That's a good talent to have. Invaluable more like it.

He felt the wolf change directions toward something in the trees. Was there a kishin egg lurking nearby?

"Mhm. I thought so too, hehe."

Oh yes there was. A hulking on too. Attempting to use the forest as coverage to get down the mountain; that would not do.

Zero lived for a good scrap. One could say he was built for it.

Let's take him!

Amaterasu is already charging in at the yeti. It seemed to hear her, but it doesn't turn fast enough to catch her. She darted past, fur high and came around with a slide. Zero could probably feel himself whirling through the air.

Wow, this really was a different way to fight! He felt a little disoriented until the wolf landed again. Let's try that again!

The yeti was coming around, but she leapt back. This sword was quite dangerous to a creature of ice. Amaterasu continued to growl, low in the snow and tail swishing.

"You got it!" She began to dash as the yeti Kishin egg charged in for an attack, but she was proving to be more mobile on four feet.

In his Weapon form, Zero flared to life. The beam created a scythe of light with every lethal swing. It ripped across a yeti's arm, scoring a hit and making the beat howl with pain.

... What was that? Hmm...

She darted around again, letting the sword swing low, aiming an arc of light towards the yeti's legs.

In battle, Zero showed no mercy. It showed in this battle too. Zero scythed into the monster's legs and nearly ripped them apart. Finish him off!

Amaterasu doesn't even need to hear that. She charged in, leaping high and, with a fierce snarl, brought the beam sword down, starting at the yeti's head.
