[OPEN] Mission 156

Location: Lake Tahoe, CA
Rating: Various.
Time: March 27th, late morning.
Description: The second of the three Madness emitters outside Death City is the target for this mission. Bundle up, everyone -- it's gonna be a cold one.

The mission begins late in the morning, to allow the mission-goers as much sunlight as possible in the warmest part of the day. Not that it'll help much… Temperatures are well below freezing already -- unnatural even for early Spring in the mountains -- and a howling snowstorm threatens to blot out the sun, beginning up the mountain where the slope just begins to rise sharply.

The slopes themselves are fairly barren: a windswept-looking tree here, a cabin that may have once belonged to the snow patrol there, maybe a Madness-crazed bear or mountain lion. Those braving the storm are lucky enough to see five feet in front of their face in these conditions!

Those brave few who manage to make it to the top (enduring falling temperatures and defeating the corrupted fauna and hulking kishin yeti along the way) may come across their goal at the very summit of the half-mile-high mountain: the Madness emitter itself, in the eye of the storm… And one last obstacle: the Witch guarding it.

That's a good talent to have. Invaluable more like it.

He felt the wolf change directions toward something in the trees. Was there a kishin egg lurking nearby?

"Mhm. I thought so too, hehe."

Oh yes there was. A hulking on too. Attempting to use the forest as coverage to get down the mountain; that would not do.

Zero lived for a good scrap. One could say he was built for it.

Let's take him!

Amaterasu is already charging in at the yeti. It seemed to hear her, but it doesn't turn fast enough to catch her. She darted past, fur high and came around with a slide. Zero could probably feel himself whirling through the air.

Wow, this really was a different way to fight! He felt a little disoriented until the wolf landed again. Let's try that again!

The yeti was coming around, but she leapt back. This sword was quite dangerous to a creature of ice. Amaterasu continued to growl, low in the snow and tail swishing.

"You got it!" She began to dash as the yeti Kishin egg charged in for an attack, but she was proving to be more mobile on four feet.

In his Weapon form, Zero flared to life. The beam created a scythe of light with every lethal swing. It ripped across a yeti's arm, scoring a hit and making the beat howl with pain.

... What was that? Hmm...

She darted around again, letting the sword swing low, aiming an arc of light towards the yeti's legs.

In battle, Zero showed no mercy. It showed in this battle too. Zero scythed into the monster's legs and nearly ripped them apart. Finish him off!

Amaterasu doesn't even need to hear that. She charged in, leaping high and, with a fierce snarl, brought the beam sword down, starting at the yeti's head.

Hacking through organic life is much different than slicing apart a Maverick. It was way more messy, for starters. At the same time it felt more satisfying, slicing off the yeti's head.

Amaterasu landed on all four, shaking out her fur in case any blood tainted it. As the yeti crumpled behind them and dissolved into a soul, she turned around to face it, sitting down.

Zero transformed back, making sure not to fall on top of the wolf. Did want to cover her with his heavy armor. He waited for the kishin egg to break down before taking the soul and stuffing it inside his internal systems via a chest port. The robot made the oddest face as his systems processed the soul. "That's...so...strange."

Amaterasu didn't say anything. She couldn't say anything. So, she just sat there and watched, tilting her head when Zero spoke. She heard Weapons complain before and some just sucked it up; guess it was just different for everyone.
