[OPEN] Mission 156

Location: Lake Tahoe, CA
Rating: Various.
Time: March 27th, late morning.
Description: The second of the three Madness emitters outside Death City is the target for this mission. Bundle up, everyone -- it's gonna be a cold one.

The mission begins late in the morning, to allow the mission-goers as much sunlight as possible in the warmest part of the day. Not that it'll help much… Temperatures are well below freezing already -- unnatural even for early Spring in the mountains -- and a howling snowstorm threatens to blot out the sun, beginning up the mountain where the slope just begins to rise sharply.

The slopes themselves are fairly barren: a windswept-looking tree here, a cabin that may have once belonged to the snow patrol there, maybe a Madness-crazed bear or mountain lion. Those braving the storm are lucky enough to see five feet in front of their face in these conditions!

Those brave few who manage to make it to the top (enduring falling temperatures and defeating the corrupted fauna and hulking kishin yeti along the way) may come across their goal at the very summit of the half-mile-high mountain: the Madness emitter itself, in the eye of the storm… And one last obstacle: the Witch guarding it.

Well unless you can suddenly summon or change into something that can get us to the top faster, then we are walking. [It was freezing and Sendo would much rather not have to walk, but he'd do whatever he had to do.]

[sayatakagi]

Tsh, use your head! [Saya starts walking, but not up the mountain, no. Instead, she seems to be looking for something] This is a ski resort. How do you think the workers got up there? [they wouldn't use the lifts, they had to use something faster than that]

[naniwarocky]

Climbed up to the top? I don't know, I've never been to a ski resort before. [Psh. Like he ever had time for luxuries like taking vacations or visiting places like this.]

[sayatakagi]

No. [she shots a glance over her shoulder, before sighing a little] Snowmobiles. If the lifts didn't work, if someone got stuck or something happened, they had to reach the top as fast as they could. So they use snowmobiles.

There must be some around.

[naniwarocky]

[..Snowmobiles. Right.]

I guess we could use one if we can find one. But I dunno how to drive one, do you?

[sayatakagi]

I'm a genius. [no, she doesn't know] How hard can it be? [she knows how to drive a bike, at least?

Saya stops a snow patrol cabin, rising her hand to point at it] There.

[naniwarocky]

[Sendo peers over to the snow patrol cabin. He wasn't sure if letting Saya drive was the best idea..but she seemed sure that she would be able to handle it.]

I guess it won't hurt to check to see if they have one. [He starts over toward the cabin.]

[sayatakagi]

Sendo! [Saya reaches for Sendo's hand] We need to be careful. We don't know what is inside the cabin - remember there is madness and animals are affected by it.

Let me turn.

[naniwarocky]

[Sendo pauses when he feels her grab his hand. He looks back to her.]

Change if you want to, but I don't think we are gonna run into any trouble. [He thinks Saya is just worrying too much.]

[sayatakagi]

You don't know that. [She turns, already knowing Sendo would grab her] Let's go.

[naniwarocky]

[He rests her on his shoulder as he starts forward again.] What kind of animals out here would pose us any danger anyway?

[He was fairly sure that there wasn't anything like..polar bears out here.]

[sayatakagi]

[there are no polar bears, but-] Fauna in Lake Tahoe includes black bears, birds, coyotes, mountain lions, deers, squirrels, marmots and marten. Besides bugs.

[she huffs a bit] I wouldn't like to meet any of those.

[naniwarocky]

We could take down any of those things if they were to attack us. [Especially that mountain lion. Sendo was pretty sure that he could easily tame that thing if it was to attack him.]

[sayatakagi]

Of course you'd say that. [Saya stood on alert, though. If there was anything inside the cabin, they had to be ready for it]

[naniwarocky]

I only say it because it is true. [When Sendo reaches the cabin door, he first listens to see if he can hear anything inside. And when he does..he turns the door knob and pushes the door open.]

Oi! Is anybody in here?!

[sayatakagi]

[Saya was about to complain that sendo was being too loud, but a low growl cut her off. It wasn't a bear, but a coyote. That's. Actually better. ]

Sendo!

[naniwarocky]

Tch. Had to be some little mutt, didn't? [He took aim and shoot a few bullets just at its feet, trying to scare it off.]

Get out of here!

[sayatakagi]

[The animal didn't seem willing to scatter; after all, the animals here were influenced by madness]

Don't just scare it!! Shoot it!

[naniwarocky]

Oi! Don't yell at me! I'm just giving the thing a chance to run before we kick its ass! [He huffs a bit then fires at the thing once more, this time aiming to actually hit it.]

[sayatakagi]

It's a mutated animal! Death the Kid always says they can't be saved. [like zombies.]

[the animal managed to escape the shot before charging at them with a loud snarl]

[naniwarocky]

[Sendo doesn't just stand there, he rushes at the damned thing and turns Saya around. He slams the butt of her gun right into the things face as hard as he can.]

Can't fault a guy for trying!

[sayatakagi]

[the coyote barks in pain, falling behind with the force of the hit]

Let's just put it out of its misery.

[naniwarocky]

[Sendo..didn't really want to do this. But he aims at the animal.]

I'm sorry, mutt. [He lets off another flurry of bullets, this time aiming right at it.]

[sayatakagi]

[the dog drops once its shot, now dead. And when it does, Saya turns back into her human form. It's not that she is cold about murdered puppies, but they are in the middle of a battle right now and she has seen plenty of terrible things in her lifetime. As sad as a dead coyote is, she isn't going to stop to mourn in.

Instead she looks around the cabin, spotting something hidden by an old cover. Saya pulls it, exposing the snowmobile underneath] Here we go.

[naniwarocky]

[Sendo lets Saya go when she transforms back into her human form. And he doesn't really expect her to get all that upset about it, since he knows what she has to live through in her world. Still, he doesn't like having to kill animals like this, vicious or not. He's fine with kicking their asses, but putting them down is a completely other story.

He shifts his attention over to her now.]

Huh. We actually found one? [He walks over to it.]
