[OPEN] Mission 156
Characters: Open to participants who signed up here.
Location: Lake Tahoe, CA
Rating: Various.
Time: March 27th, late morning.
Description: The second of the three Madness emitters outside Death City is the target for this mission. Bundle up, everyone -- it's gonna be a cold one.
The mission begins late in the morning, to allow the mission-goers as much sunlight as possible in the warmest part of the day. Not that it'll help much… Temperatures are well below freezing already -- unnatural even for early Spring in the mountains -- and a howling snowstorm threatens to blot out the sun, beginning up the mountain where the slope just begins to rise sharply.
The slopes themselves are fairly barren: a windswept-looking tree here, a cabin that may have once belonged to the snow patrol there, maybe a Madness-crazed bear or mountain lion. Those braving the storm are lucky enough to see five feet in front of their face in these conditions!
Those brave few who manage to make it to the top (enduring falling temperatures and defeating the corrupted fauna and hulking kishin yeti along the way) may come across their goal at the very summit of the half-mile-high mountain: the Madness emitter itself, in the eye of the storm… And one last obstacle: the Witch guarding it.

.. Wait, what was he saying? ]
W.. what kind of suggestion is that? [ Even if she was sure he meant it practically, the thought was still too embarassing! ] I'm supposed to be the Meister here, right? I'm just fine.
no subject
If an enemy attacked now, they'd have a bit of a hard time fighting back. ] Concentrate on keeping your footing and moving forward. I'll keep watch for enemies.
no subject
Still, at least her embarassment wasn't as visible in the middle of the storm, so she did keep stepping onward even now. ]
I didn't know the whole 'keeping you safe' deal involved carrying too. I know I should've read the disclaimer. [ It was more difficult to hear her over the storm by now though, but at least they were close enough to communicate while she carried him. ]
no subject
Keep going straight. If we make any turns here, we'll end up lost.

As if I would go and-- [ Ange was busy with answering him, but a little too busy. So much that she didn't notice that bear taken over by madness suddenly jumping at her from the front, and she gasped for air in surprise as she fell back in the snow in an attempt to dodge the thing attacking her.
Quickly she swung the sword at it, even if it was pretty difficult with her sight half-obscured like this. But even so, she tried aiming for something vital, at least, or something that would keep the bear from moving.. Only after a few stabs she managed to pierce its heart and the bear crumbled to the ground. ]
no subject
But Ange wasn't helpless. She knew just where to try and strike, and within the next few seconds, the bear was a crumpled heap on the ground. Argh, that was close. ]
...Sorry. I didn't say something fast enough... [ ...Even if he enjoyed just having banter with her, now wasn't the time. This environment was way more dangerous than where they had been before. ] You did well, Ange.
no subject
[ As she tried to stand up she found herself hissing instead though. She wasn't sure why, but when her gaze travelled down to her leg, she could see why - and so she sighed. ]
.. Ah. Guess I ruined your pants, so I should be the one who's sorry. [ She said it casually, but there were some slight rips in the pants where the bear's claw had struck her on the leg, scratching her. Some blood trinkled down her legs from said scratches, but Ange seemed calm all the same despite it. ]

He took some of the sleeve of his own shirt, grabbing it with his teeth, as he changed his left hand into the form of a blade. Heh. Guess half weapon form could be useful sometime. He began to tear the cuff off around the sleeve of his shirt. It was no bandage, but stopping the bleeding was more important than anything. There was the sound of a tear, and his arm changed back. ]
Here. I'll put this around the cut. [ He said, not waiting for a reply, kneeling down to wrap it around the wound, tying it as he managed to get it all the way around. He just sighed. ]
...Let's take it easy for now. I don't want you fighting with that. The bleeding should stop soon enough.
no subject
He was.. helping her? But it wasn't even a big deal, right? Even if it was bleeding, it was just a scratch - compared to that time the Sumaderas had beaten her up or the time she was torn apart alive, this much was nothing.. was it such a big deal to him? ]
.. I'm fine, you know. We can just keep moving. [ Her expression was a little.. well, almost confused, really. ] It's only a scratch, I can fight just fine even if I have this.
[ And Yuri was about to find out just how stubborn Ange was when she had something in mind, since the girl was already attempting to stand up again. ]
no subject
Bleeding in the cold can cause frost bite. And your leg from the cut down will be useless. The only choice to keep it from spreading would be to cut it off. [ He said, not looking at her, his hand only going to take hers again. ]
You're not going to be able to move as fast either. It's hard to put pressure on an injury and not flinch or cause the cut to open more. We're in no rush, Ange. I don't want you to hurt yourself. [ This wouldn't be such an issue if he could just use his blastia. He had an arte that could heal smaller wounds like this...dammit BREW...He let go of her hand, going to cut his other sleeve. ]
I'll give you some more so you can keep that part of your leg warm. [ He couldn't understand it himself. It wasn't the wound, so much as that combined with their environment. It was that much more dangerous than the caves they had explored. And that much more difficult to explore and fight in. He just...didn't want to see things go badly. ]
no subject
She didn't find words until she heard the last part of what he was saying, reaching out with her hand as if that would stop him. ]
Don't do that. This much is fine. [ Although this time it wasn't out of sheer stubbornness that she was saying it, it was more-- ] What if you end up not being in your Weapon form the entire time for this? You won't have enough warmth then.
no subject
I think I can manage to stay in weapon form the whole time. It'll protect me from the cold and madness, after all.
no subject
I'm strong. [ She couldn't be weak, couldn't allow herself to be weak, especially not right now. But.. 'I'll keep you safe', huh.. ]
no subject
If it makes you feel better, I'll take my weapon form now to keep from getting cold. [ He wasn't gonna lie, since they weren't moving, he was starting to feel it. ]
no subject
Yeah, just change back. Then we'll keep going. I still want to see that Kishin egg.
no subject
Better?
no subject
Walking was a little harder now, a little painful in one leg, but at least not unbearably so. She's had worse, that was all she had to keep thinking about. ]
Who ever thought up to have a mission in this kind of weather..
no subject
What exactly is a ski resort?
no subject
What was that question? She kept walking and trying to pay attention, but even so she couldn't help but raise an eyebrow to herself. ]
You mean you really don't know? Your world is weird, Yuri.
no subject
Come on, just tell me.
no subject
So as she walked again, she just spoke as if nothing happened. ]
It's where people go in their vacations to ski. If you don't know what that is either, it's people practically tying two pieces of wood under their feet and going down snowy slopes with those.
no subject
The bear was coming their way, but by now, their vital spots were obvious. He wasn't even worried, and continued. ]
Have you ever gone skiing?
no subject
[ She was mindful of his warning though, quickly glancing to the side even as she spoke, trying to find the bear through the snow.. but then she noticed it. Luckily they were easier to take down once you knew how to strike them, so this one went down relatively easily. Although the more she took down, the more of a toll it took on her.. but with Ange being Ange she wasn't about to voice any concern about that out loud. Instead she spoke on again, quickly walking on. ]
I hardly remember it though since it was so long ago.
no subject
Hm. Sounds like fun. I never got to travel until I joined the knights. It's dangerous going outside of the town barriers otherwise. Plus, I never had the money.
no subject
Instead they decided to practically lock me up inside some boring boarding school for snobby rich gir--
[ She stopped mid-sentence, her expression actually changing for once to surprise. ]
.. Yuri, up there, that's.. one of those Kishin eggs, isn't it?
