[OPEN] Mission 156

Location: Lake Tahoe, CA
Rating: Various.
Time: March 27th, late morning.
Description: The second of the three Madness emitters outside Death City is the target for this mission. Bundle up, everyone -- it's gonna be a cold one.

The mission begins late in the morning, to allow the mission-goers as much sunlight as possible in the warmest part of the day. Not that it'll help much… Temperatures are well below freezing already -- unnatural even for early Spring in the mountains -- and a howling snowstorm threatens to blot out the sun, beginning up the mountain where the slope just begins to rise sharply.

The slopes themselves are fairly barren: a windswept-looking tree here, a cabin that may have once belonged to the snow patrol there, maybe a Madness-crazed bear or mountain lion. Those braving the storm are lucky enough to see five feet in front of their face in these conditions!

Those brave few who manage to make it to the top (enduring falling temperatures and defeating the corrupted fauna and hulking kishin yeti along the way) may come across their goal at the very summit of the half-mile-high mountain: the Madness emitter itself, in the eye of the storm… And one last obstacle: the Witch guarding it.

.. I should probably walk the last bit by myself, right?

[ But even as she said it, there was almost something hesitant about it.. why? She couldn't put her finger on it either, it wasn't that she wanted him to keep carrying her like this, right? There was no way-- ]

[ He just shrugged at that. ] Not with that injury you won't. Don't worry, you're not that heavy. [ He continued down only the path they had come, though he was just going at a slow walk now. ]

Besides, least I can do for letting you get hurt back there. You can pay me back by helping me with dinner tonight.

It's like it's your fault that I got hurt. [ At least she was sure about that - it was her own fault, since she was the one fighting, after all. Even if they were a team, she should've been the one to react at seeing the bear before she could get hurt - it had nothing to do with him. ] So there's no need to repay me. Especially not with something like.. this.

[ But the fact that she didn't protest against the last part meant that that was actually a silent agreement, honestly. ]

You don't owe me anything, in fact-- [ .. She almost started on something, but then swallowed it down again as if she wasn't sure whether to actually say it or not - what if he would make fun of her for it? Or what if she seemed too weak because of it? But then again, if she didn't say it, it wouldn't.. be fair, so.. ] .. I'm the one who owes you.

[ ...That was an odd thing to hear her say. He blinked at her words, as he continued walking. Sure, he was protecting her, but, that wasn't something she should owe him for. He chose to do that on his own. ]

You don't owe me anything. I'm just doing what I can to help. [ And he really meant that. They were partners, after all. In the distance, the camp could be seen. Seemed like they were turning back a little early, but, that'd be fine. More experienced people would be up there destroying the emitters, after all. ]

So don't worry about it, alright?

[entreats]

Don't think I'm worrying. [ Even though she obviously was worrying, honestly, but Ange wouldn't be Ange if she didn't try to deny the obvious all the same. The closer they came to the camp, the more she retracted her hands from around his neck though, instead holding them close to herself - she didn't want anyone to see that, okay.. ]

It was just.. a random thought. That's all.

Haha. If you say so. [ He just chuckled though, stopping just a short distance from the camp. ]

Come, let's get you fixed up. My arms are getting tired. [ They weren't really, but hey, he wasn't one to pass up an opportunity for a joke. ]

[entreats]

[ At that she just nodded, letting him put her down again. She didn't want to be carried all the way into the camp either way, what if people would see?! This far was fine. When they held hands though as she was now fully standing on her own, she gave his hand a last tiny squeeze before she fully let go. ]

Yeah, let's go before anyone thinks something weird about the two of us talking like this right outside the camp.

[ He felt the tug on his hand, but as soon as it had come, it left, and she began to make her way towards the camp. He just shrugged, and smiled, following her. ]

I hear you on that one. I'm not in the mood for rumors myself.
