[OPEN] Mission 155

Characters: Open to those who signed up here.
Location: An unmarked cavern system outside Death City.
Rating: Various.
Time: March 18th, sunrise.
Description: Shibusen agents brave underwater caverns to take out the first of three Madness emitters.

Missiongoers pile out of the mirrors early in the morning, just as the first hints of sun start to color the walls of the sandstone canyon red and purple; it'll be the last bits of real light they'll see for at least a few hours. The atmosphere is electric -- there're quite a few new (and old) arrivals who're eager to see some action, but just as many people who're feeling rather more apprehensive… And for good reason.

The only way to their destination is blocked by a few hundred yards of sunken tunnels. Luckily they've been provided with mouthpieces, breathing apparatuses with enough oxygen to last about ten minutes: more than enough time, provided that the guests don't lose their way in the dimly-lit, twisted caverns. It's as easy as following the person in front of them, right?

Upon emerging safely from the pool onto mostly-dry land, they'll find themselves in an immense cavern, illuminated by countless, blue fungi clinging to the walls and ceiling, looking like stars dotting a night sky. Already the first signs of the way Madness has been corrupting the wildlife are evident: the mushrooms exude strange spores that make some people's head pound the same way the increasingly noticeable Madness wavelength does.

As they travel further into the watery caves and explore its many branches, they'll begin to encounter creatures twisted by Madness: moles, snakes, beetles, centipedes, all grown to monstrous proportions, some with a venomous bite that quickly turns their victim feverish and delirious. The more daring fighters can easily dispatch those and delve even deeper, and it's near the source of the Madness, in the chamber housing the emitter itself, that they'll encounter the kishin eggs.

There're dozens of them-- eyeless, white, vaguely human-shaped things, but despite their blindness they have no problem finding their quarry, fighting with claws and exuding their own Madness wavelength. If the missiongoers can stand strong against the kishin eggs and the ever-present wavelength given off by the Madness emitter, Shibusen's specialists will have enough time to shut the machine down for good.

[Demona & Londo | Cave System | Closed]

After the water, they finally reached the caves. She wouldn't need any light since she could see at night, but the worst of this was the fact that there were no air currents in this place; she could not fly. Demona was in disadvantage.

And she wasn't happy. At all.

She felt angry and annoyed and tense and there was something scratching her brain that made her feel so... this was madness, she knew. And she tried to fight it. But there is only so much a genocidal gargoyle fueled by hatred could do.

Demona turned to Londo, reaching out her hand for him. "Let's go deeper." they probably wouldn't be able to get to the emitter, but she wanted to fight.

Londo couldn't see well, not with just the mushrooms, he was wet, it was chilly, and he could feel something eating at him. "Deeper. Of course, yes. I begin to despise these Witches. It is always somewhere cold, or dark, or bothersome. They could not make bases in places that are nice, no."

He sighed and took her hand, transforming. At least he'd feel less cold like that. "No wonder why they want us to help. Their own people, they would not like going down here either."

"I can see in the dark." and the cold and wet didn't bother her. If Londo transformed, Demona could easily guide both of them.

"That's true. We are just canon fodder, after all." yet, they still took this mission. Demona did because she loved a good fight; Londo possibly because he wanted to go home. The female gargoyle held Londo tightly as she went deeper into the caves.

She tried to listen, smell and feel her surroundings (the last part was much more difficult because this was not her world) until something called her attention. Demona's eyes glowed red and a low growl erupted from her throat as he raised the staff. "They are coming."

And with that, suddenly a huge mole came out of no where.

"Your people, they are gifted. I cannot imagine how the humans became the dominant species on this planet, no. We, we killed the other race on our planet. But they did not have claws, no, and could not see in the dark."

Londo accepted the mission because he liked luxuries, and a second mission meant more. More good food, more booze, and maybe a very nice coat.

If he hadn't been in staff form Londo would have jumped, startled by the attack. Thankfully she knew what she was doing. He focused as he'd been trying to do ever since the last fight, trying to zap, and sure enough somehow there was another little bolt. It still wasn't doing much, but it was better than just being a stick. The mole staggered back as if surprised, and Londo decided to count that as a small victory.

"Gargoyles protect." that all she said. Honestly, Gargoyles are naive. They have strong protective instincts - of their land, of their caves, their families and allies, which used to be the humans. They were so strongly attached to this instinct of protection that they allowed the humans to trample over them; only Demona understood how vicious they were, and she had to witness the demise of her entire clan to finally see that.

Demona allowed Londo the first attack, which was good to startle the mole, giving Demona a chance to attack now. She rushed towards the animal, her roar echoing through the caves, and hit the mole's snout with Londo before she jumped it with the claws of her free hand.

"As you are protecting here? You are good at it. And I am glad to be partnered with you, yes." Even in the midst of battle he felt secure enough. Not that he enjoyed being here. It was still a troubling situation to be in. But at least this meant fewer Kishin could attack the city next time things went south.

The mole howled as it was struck, attacking back as she lashed at it. Compliments were probably a good idea for another time. He'd still give them, but he didn't want to distract her. He focused on the feeling of the charge again, trying to strike again. Much to his delight he hit the mole a second time. Londo would get the hang of this yet.

Demona did like praising, but Londo was right in leaving that for later. Demona had to jump to the side and used Londo to defend herself from the upcoming attack, however Mollari struck back with his own power. They were a good team, to be honest; Demona attacked, then Londo attacked and so on.

The female jumped in for the kill once more and this time it wasn't just claws. Her tail moved like a whip, hitting the animal hard, before she opened her wings in a threatening manner. The mole, decided not to give up on its pray, this time with the mouth to take a bite out of her, but that's exactly what the gargoyle wanted.

"Londo, aim towards it's mouth." she waved the Weapon, hoping to hit the mole inside of the mouth, where was the most vulnerable.

He felt the blow and knew it would bruise, somehow. It was the first bruise he'd gotten in quite some time that wasn't related to falling over while drunk. He didn't like it, but it was better than those bruises, somehow.

"Yes, yes, already I am aiming for it." He hadn't been. But Londo and orders didn't always go well and he wanted to feel at least a little competent despite the truth. The bolt was off-center, not quite where he wanted it, but it struck the roof of the mole's mouth anyway, half-stunning it. It staggered, clearly unable to figure out what was going on.

"And now, the kill, yes? It is a shame I am no blade." Driving in, that was the way to do it, but if striking and zapping got them through things then he would be all right with that.

Electricity and water (in this case, saliva) work so well together. And stunning was just about enough for Demona.

As she heard Londo, the gargoyle smirked wide "I need no blade!" she had her claws; the female jumped on the enemy and she did claw it; its face, its eyes, like a furious animal, and aiding all of that violence, she also used her Weapon, hitting the top of the mole's head to make it go unconscious.

It was hard at first, since the mutated animal was disorientated and was clawing at anything randomly, but it also helped because it ended up hitting itself time to time in the process. And Demona's and Londo's blows eventually worked.

Claws. Right. Londo watched as she tore into the mole, rather glad that he wasn't on the receiving end of that. Again he was left wondering why humans had survived in his world as well. They were so boring, compared to gargoyles. But there was nothing for it.

The mole died, squealing and flailing. It was no Kishin, just a creature, so at least there was nothing Londo had to eat at this point in time. "And so. Deeper, yes? And to hope we do not run into a witch. We will not do well there, no."

There were noises of fighting coming from up ahead, and as much as Londo's cowardly side said maybe they should be slow in getting there, he also realized that to have a greater chance of getting out alive they needed to back their allies up.

[personal profile] pmsgargoyle 2012-09-12 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"We will avoid witches." Demona had no desire to fight one, not only because she would lose, but because they could become her allies eventually. She couldn't go around fighting her possible future allies.

The female gargoyle nodded "Let's go." though Londo had a coward side, he was at least, willing to keep going. Demona was cocky enough to believe this was because of her; she is an amazing warrior after all.

"Though we shouldn't find a witch, a kishin would be interesting." to harvest a soul.

"For a given definition of interesting, no? The fight-for-our-lives type, while we hope that it does not have a lot of friends hiding in the dark? Myself, I prefer my interesting in more private quarters, yes." Gentlemen's clubs. Bedrooms. That sort of thing.

He was amused by the 'let's go,' though. "After you, yes? For you are holding me."

There was light in the cave up ahead, and the sounds of conflict changed. He wasn't sure what that meant, though. He wasn't one to be out on the field like that.

[personal profile] pmsgargoyle 2012-09-17 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
Demona's eyes set on the cave, her wings spread; she knew what those sounds meant. And she knew she had to be ready the moment they went inside that cave; eyes glowing red, a loud hiss coming from her throat, when she was few meters way, she charged viciously in hopes to catch an enemy out of guard.

Which she did; the female barely saw what it was, but she struck it with Londo in what appear to be its head.

It was no regular animal, from what Londo saw. His bet was on Kishin. He focused again, zapping out at its head and getting a good glance at it. Sure enough, it looks on the human side, vaguely, and that's supposed to mean Kishin. Thankfully it doesn't mean Witch; those are supposed to look completely human from the bit that he knows.

The Kishin howled in rage as it was struck and zapped, but it didn't attack. Or, it didn't attack physically. Londo could feel the edge of craziness starting to edge in. "The resonance. It is attacking like that." He had very few defenses against the madness, knowing that it most often intensified his fear of things. At least he couldn't run in weapon form, but that could make things more dangerous for the both of them.
