Description: The doctors and nurses are scrambling throughout the clinic to help with the sudden influx of patients.

The first casualties of the invasion started to limp their way in not long after the zombies and familiars began attacking people in the city. Fortunately there are a few concerned citizens doing their best to protect the clinic from being overrun while those within worked frantically to help anyone who was injured. Despite the desperate situation, the clinic personnel have so far been keeping their calm and working professionally to help any and all injured who come through their doors.

[Kaoru had arrived in a bloody mess of clothing when Kenshin brought her in. With the black blood and the large amount of blood she'd lost from her wounds, she had arrived unresponsive, and very much unconscious.

Since then, she'd been set in a quiet room, the heavy drip of IV's pumping in the blood she'd lost while the other IV took out the black blood. Kaoru in another time might have protested this, but she hadn't been conscious.

However there were spaces between the day when she had been conscious, however there would be no Kaoru for Phase 3.

It all depended on timing, and who was there when she occasionally awoke.

OOC: feel free to drop by or visit, she'll be conscious when you do! eventually. she might also be sneaking about if the nurses don't see her. ]

[It's cool, Rei's just going to be sitting at Kaoru's bedside, slumped over the side of it and fast asleep.

She might be drooling a little]

[Kaoru stirs a little, before she opens one eye, blinking in surprise. ]
...Rei..san? [her voice is a bit hoarse as she struggles to turn her head]

[No no, five more minutes mom...

She opens her eyes though, slowly coming back to awareness herself.] Hm?

[shihandai]

[Kaoru lifts an IV-covered arm, her twisting in the IV, it's too long. Her voice is weak as she tries to reach for Rei's shoulder. ]

Why..are you---..[Here?]

[cursemarked]

[She sis up once her brain kicks in again and instantly grasps Kaoru's hand] You're awake! Thank goodness...

[A sigh of relief and she smiles, tired but happy] I told you that we'd get through this thing together, didn't I? Of course I'm here.

[shihandai]

[Kaoru stares at her, her wrist has a bandage and IV's inserted in, but she's struck by that. She swallows, trying to find her voice as her voice rasps a quiet laugh.]

This..wasn't what I meant--..[she brings her other hand over her eyes, the IV shaking slightly from the pole. ]
So..this all really happened, huh. [her mouth trembles a bit before she stares down at her. ]

How ..long have you been here?

[Rei doesn't let go of Kaoru's hand, but she scoots her chair a little closer and leans her elbows on the bed]

Me? I'm not sure-- my neck's a little stiff so probably a couple hours. They won't let me go home but I managed to convince them to leave me alone until you woke up.

I'll probably have to go away after a bit so they can check me in officially. [Her clothes are a mess, teared and bloody; her hands are bruised and there's a nice green and purple bruise starting on her collar that Kaoru could see above the collar of Rei's shirt.

There's probably more, but if there is they're hidden by her clothes]

It's not as bad as it looks though. Mostly I'm just tired; I'm more worried about you.

[he felt like shit. he had been poisoned, driven mad, ruined his relationship with everyone and on top of that murdered his pet bobcat. to say that cross was in the best of moods when he strode through the clinic, trying to get someone to look at him because of the madness.

it was as he was striding that he caught sight of a young woman and frowned, mumbling to himself:]

Why is it that they choose children to their dirty work?

[Kaoru's eyes flickered beneath closed lids, the blue veins snaking through skin too pale. Her breathing hitched slightly as she cleared the cough in her throat; her mind registering the red blurs of color that shone like beacons in her hazy vision. ]

Ken..shin...?[that pitiful excuse for a voice rattles from the woman's chest as her bleary eyes blink hopefully, dazedly at the figure before her]

[She was awake? She had to be quite the woman to be able to withstand the black water and register people.]

I'm afraid not young lady. [Can't say that with his hair that he could be mistaken for another person easily.]

[shihandai]

I..see. [it escapes her in a disappointed little rasp, the black haired woman offering a wan smile. ]

Do..I know you..?

[ioudas]

No, you don't. I just happened to be passing by when you stopped me.

[there was no need to mention his earlier sentiment.]

I..did? [she can't seem to remember that. forgive her, she's just woken up. her blue eyes are glassy from the painkillers.]
I'm sorry--I..this is the hospital..right?

You did. Not many people see the hair and mistake me for someone else.

[He isn't going to answer the obvious question, though.]

Feb 3rd, afternoonish

[[Bakura was doing rounds to check up on as many people as he could to make sure they hadn't been kidnapped, and with how badly Kaoru had been hurt, he had been pretty sure where to find her. He'd brought a small box of fresh made anpan (made with bottled water to avoid any risk of reinfecting anyone) with him, which he held a touch awkwardly as he hesitated just outside the curtain to where Kaoru was, not wanting to disturb her. If she was sleeping, he'd just leave the box at her bedside and not wake her.]]

[Kaoru's eyes moved under pale, shadowed lids. They soon opened halfmast as the appearance of a shadow over her curtain gave her enough pause to simply stare and feel her heart clench so painfully that it felt worse than her generous wound.

An enemy? This was..the hospital. Right. Maybe it was even Kenshin! But he had been in bad shape as well--whoever it was, Kaoru feebly murmured from her bed:]

Who..who is it?

[shiromadoushi]

Just me, [[Bakura assured, moving closer so she could see him]] Bakura Ryou. Didn't mean to wake you, just wanted to make sure you were all right...

[shihandai]

Bakura-kun? [Kaoru's face relaxes, to a state of almost sleepiness as she offers a smile. Normally it would be a bright smile, but with the painkillers, the wound itself, and the exhaustion, it's just a shadow of her usual ones. Still, it's a Kaoru smile. Friendly and open.]

You didn't..I was already waking up. I'm sorry I'm not very presentable for visitors..[her smile turns wry]

[shiromadoushi]

It's all right, [[assures with a warm smile]] No one expects you to be in these sorts of situations.

I brought you some anpan, if you can eat... [[holds up the box slightly]]

[shihandai]

Anpan? R..really? [Kaoru's eyes widened as she stared at the box. She could feel the urge to drool as she reached for one with a bandaged arm, her fingers trembling a little.]

[Kenshin doesn't want to wake her.

He's dressed, ready to leave the clinic and prepare for the rescue mission, and he doesn't want to worry her. More than that, while he knows now she'll live, he simply wants her to sleep and rest. There's a twisting in his chest when he sees her so hurt, thinks how she was wounded so seriously and continued running to save him—and probably others—while he was trying to murder people in the streets.

What good is he if he couldn't protect even her? He'd tried to attack Rei, he didn't even know whether Tomoe was all right, Megumi had been captured, and his most important person was lying wounded in front of him after he'd carried her into the clinic just in time: terrified by the black blood, traumatized by seeing people she loved try to attack her, unconscious and still bleeding from a gaping wound in her side.

Kenshin takes a deep, shaky breath, closes his eyes against the burning in them.

What good is Kenshin Himura?

He'd thought he'd found that answer—now he had to question it.]

[Rei braided her hair when she'd fallen asleep again. Other than that the girl in the bed looked a little too bandaged to be the usual feisty Kaoru.

The sound of breathing was enough.

Slowly, Kaoru's blue eyes opened, half-mast. They didn't register anything. They roved quietly up to the cieling, puzzled, a blink, and then they cleared.

She woke up alone again, didn't she? While everyone else was--the girl swallowed as she blinked rapidly, realizing that she still hurt. But what hurt more was not knowing where everyone was.

And that was the moment her eyes hopefully went to the door, and then to him. She stared quietly at Kenshin, not certain if he was real or not. She closed her eyes, opening them again. He was still there.

A rasping sound came out of her throat--(a gasp). Her face twisted into something unnamed before her face relaxed into a smile, his name escaping her lips in a hoarse, happy rasp. ]

Ken..Kenshin..[she blinked back tears. he was alright. he was alright..]

[He had just turned to leave when he heard the sharp gasp behind him. Kenshin stopped, turned back.]

It's all right, Kaoru. [a smile, just for her.] You should go back to sleep, that you should... The more you rest now, the quicker you'll heal.

[and god, he wanted her to heal.]

[Kaoru swallowed, looking at him with confused eyes, her smile faltering.]
Aren't..you doing that too? Resting? Where..are you going, Kenshin? [he looked fine but--he still looked exhausted. he was dressed as if he were--]
