[Event] Invasion!

Description: Witches have invaded and are attacking the city!

The attack, when it comes, happens quickly enough that Death City would have been caught flat-footed had there been no prior warning, but it's not completely unexpected because of the city's heightened state of alarm the past day. Warning sirens start sounding to alert the citizens and guests the moment a dark, slow-moving mass out in the desert to the south-east of Death City is spotted by Shibusen sentries. There's even time for civilians to run and hide before the mass is identified as an army of what looks like decaying, shambling corpses. The city's defenders are slow to move, however; most of them are distracted and are having trouble dealing with the black blood in their bodies. While agents are gathering to head out to deal with the zombie threat, that's when the witches make their move.

Portals begin opening in the skies above the city, disgorging hideous familiars: bulbous spiders and leggy ants the size of dogs. They drop hundreds of feet down into the streets and alleyways of Death City, and scuttle off in search of victims. The spiders are poisonous and can spin copious amounts of web to capture their targets, the ants spit acid that cause agonizing, paralyzing pain. Their masters bear down on the city in a cloud of black shadows--massive ravens strong enough to carry off adult men. There are five witches, women on broomsticks, beautiful if not for their crazed grins and obvious glee at the chaos descending upon the city. At some unknown signal--maybe the cackling from a couple of them--they dive in concert and disappear into different areas of the city.

Their masterful plan has begun!

[He hadn't been planning on attending her training session because, truth be told, he was kind of bruised after stupidly trying to take on her boyfriend. But other than that, he's fine. It's easy to forget his light injuries as he gives her a cheeky thumbs up.]

Right as rain, Kaoru! [He looks towards the zombies, then up at the falling insects as he makes his way to her. He strikes a defensive stance, putting his back to hers.] Let's show 'em what we've got!

[Kaoru figured that there might have been more people involved with Kenshin but she hadn't been ready to ask yet. (More like she hadn't been conscious. ) But instead she simply stares at her student's chipper attitude, as he presses his back to hers, glancing over her shoulder with a look of exasperation mixed with disbelief. ]

Giant spiders..giant spiders. Can you try to sound a little less happy about this!? Geez! This is not the time! [she holds her shinai in both hands, her expression annoyed]

Just so you know, I think this is the most digusting thing I've ever considered doing in my entire life. These things better get ready. [Yes, pissed is good. It's better than being freaked out as a scary smile appears on her face.]

Don't fall behind. I'm not in a good mood today.

[Takuto grins at her over his shoulder. At least her attitude is in top form today, and he'll be glad to see her nasty strikes directed at those bugs instead of himself.]

I've got your back, so you take good care of mine. [His words are quiet, spoken with just enough force that she'll hear them. But in the next instant the first spider attacks.

Takuto shoves his right leg forward and spins around it, beating the arachnid with both swords simultaneously. The creature flies backwards and smacks against the wall, its carapace cracking and leaving a nauseating vertical smear as it falls to the ground. Takuto completes the spin and is back-to-back with Kaoru in a moment, his eyes darting towards the one that's next in line.]

Are you kidding me?! Get away from me! [Kaoru growls as she let's him handle the first one, her own shoe pivoting as she brings the shinai down straight into the face of the next spider headed their way. Blinded, it hisses and scuttles on it's digusting legs as Kaoru all but jumps before she whacks it on the head, crushing whatever was left of it's brain. ]

..Yuck.

[The next one rears up on four legs, and disturbingly, manages to block Takuto's next strike with a hairy leg. His hit punches through the leg itself, but lacks enough momentum to do more than dent the round, shiny head. He swiftly brings his other sword up, toppling the monster backwards.

Its legs kick wildly in the air as it tries to right itself, and the scene might have been comical... if the spider hadn't started spewing a sticky webbing out of its bulbous abdomen, and the webbing hadn't been aimed at Takuto's feet.]

Blegh, what is this stuff?! [He retreats, trying to shake off the thick strands from his leg and not get further tangled in it.]

Takuto?! [Kaoru has her hands busy with the next one in line, making disgusted sounds all the while as she kicks one back, then uses her body weight to jam the shinai into it's jaw, and out of the top of it's head. It seems..the most soft part anyway. Yuck!

The shihandai turns in mute horror as her student is ensnared, beginning to run towards him and drop her shinai, crouching to stare at the stuff. ]
Hold still--you might make it worse..um--ugh where is something sharp?!

You'd think that if monsters were a problem around here, they'd let us be armed!

[Though if he's honest, he appreciates that no one outside Watch members have been armed in the past few days. Still, it's no laughing matter if he gets tripped up in this stuff and can't maneuver quickly.]

But at least keep your sword in hand, Kaoru! [He doesn't want to see a spider come crawling and have it knock her only weapon out of reach.] I can just pull it off--don't worry about it! Focus on those bugs!

[And by "those bugs" he means the half dozen that are scaling down a nearby wall, making hissing noises amidst the creepy clapping of their pincer mouths.]

[Kaoru nodded wordlessly, too intent on focusing on his slip-up as she glances over her shoulder, sword still in her grip. She cringes. ]

Ugh! These things! If I had a broom this wouldn't be a problem! [as she stands up, standing in front of him protectively]
Hurry up and get untangled, I've got things from up here.

Thanks! [He hurriedly crouches down, trying to pull the webbing from his legs. It's mostly around one ankle, but it's so sticky that it's just clinging to his hand when he manages to pull it free.

Though... it's better on his hand then on his legs. He quickly smears what he can on the ground and accepts that he's not going to be dropping the sword from his left hand anytime soon. The web feels disgusting, but it's not barbed or acidic so he can deal.

He pops back upright just as the spider that put him in the mess does the same.]

[and she's charging ahead with her shinai, ripping through whatever soft spot she can as she pivots, taking out another with as much strength as she can with a severely weakened body. she's never running around the damn city with a wound ever again. ]

Think we can take all of them?

[He laughs a little bit because her question is so ridiculous he might just play along.]

You mean all of them in the city? [The creatures were dropped in more than just one location. He manages a feisty grin while he jumps up to deliver a Galactic Cross Slash to the spider that's been his opponent for too long.] I don't see--[the swords connect, sending the contents of the spider's body in two separate directions]--why we can't!

Oh geez now you're showing off! [Don't mind her as she links arms with you in order to get momentum to twist over you and stab a spider right in the face, glaring as she all but punts it with her foot. She's 5"1 and has the strength of a crouching tiger. >:( ]

I want to take them all out! I hate [WHACK] spiders!

[He crouches and swings her as if he's a natural at fighting with a companion, which is something he's actually never done before. It must be like what they say about dancing--if your lead is good enough, following comes naturally.]

I don't think they're fond of you, either.

[He sidesteps, pulling her with him and out of the way of a spray of spiderwebs. In a flash he's released her arm and sprinting towards the offending arachnid, taking its legs out from under it with one swing and smashing its midsection half a second later.]

[as he throws her Kaoru raises her shinai just in time to run it up the stomach of the spider above them, making a face. ]
I really don't want to have this on me-----!!!!!

Blech. [He grimaces at her predicament as he beats back a menacing spider.] You better not try any moves that involve putting that gunk on me!

[Spider innards are gooping down her sword, and Takuto isn't looking forward to the time they'll have to take cleaning up later. A moment later, he feels like eating his words, because a well-placed hit on a spider causes it to spurt something slimy on the leg of his pants.]

[And as she rolls to dodge most of the sludge, she watches as he gets hit and she literally can't do it. She starts laughing. It almost sounds crazy it's been a long day, an insanely long week--and this --this is the cake.

She holds her shinai down for a minute and just wipes her eyes, only her laughter stops when she winces, holding her side. ]

You....are an idiot..

[He's not really sure if the laughter is a good thing or a bad thing. But if it's the kind that simply keeps a person from crying, he'll opt to keep her laughing.

But he returns to her side, barely hiding his concern when she grabs her side. He respects her too much to comment on it, but he can tell she's in pain.]

Trained by the very best, you know.

[Another spider comes crawling towards them, and he taps it once on the side with his left sword, striking it to the ground with a blow to the top of the head. He glances over his shoulder towards Kaoru.]

Come on, we should find some place that's easier to take these guys on. It's no good getting surrounded like this. [Not that he knows any place like that, seeing as these monsters can easily climb up and down and buildings. Also, he really has no idea of strategically defensible places, given that all of his real battle experience has been on a perfectly smooth surface with a vast, dome-like ceiling. ~~Except once when he was in space, but that counts for even less.~~]

[Kaoru was heavily wounded. It was minor at first but her exertion afterwards..made it bad. So she's blinking at the blood seeping through her bandages--the makeshift ones, and looks up at him with a foggy look on her face, before she snorts. ]

Don't compare me to you. [she stands up, walking towards him and glancing over her shoulder once, guardedly]

[He sees the blood and realizes that whatever is ailing her is much more serious than he thought--than she first let on. She's by no means defenseless, though, and he knows that even wounded he'd rather have her at his side than an average, healthy citizen. But he's starting to get worried.]

Kaoru, there's a pretty good chance we'll be at this for most of the day. [He looks up and down the street they're on, wondering if there isn't some kind of area that's best suited to fighting off the invaders. Rooftops were out of the question--those large birds looked ready to swoop down and snatch a person away. But the twisting, narrow streets only made it possible for the spiders to crawl down the buildings and leap on top of them. What they needed was open ground.] Let's head for the park--I think we'll stand a better chance taking them down there.

[She scoffs.]
You think? [before she sobers, standing up on her feet and staring up at the sky, her ponytail swaying quietly in the breeze. ]
This battle..it's--going to go on for a long time. [she shakes her head]

This is the real war. Right here.

I know it is. That's why I'm thinking we should use our heads a little. [There's a horrible shuffling noise, and a low groaning. Moments later, a foul stench washes over them and there's a dull smack of a putrefied limb bouncing down a nearby set of stairs.

Right behind it are the zombies. Nearly a dozen of them, mouths open and in various stages of decay.]

I guess the day is just getting started....

[Kaoru turns again, stumbling a bit. The black blood and the wound are still heavy in her system. She steps on the drops of blood beginning to dot the ground with her sandal, before she smiles grimly. ]

Well don't just stand there and talk about it, use it already! It's time to run! [and she's pulling on his hand and running, ignoring how her wound is tearing open again]

[There's no time to tell her he doesn't think she should be running, but it had been his idea to find someplace easier to defend, so he can't complain now. Besides, he'll carry her if he has to.

He runs beside her, beating an insect that might have been an enormous ant out of the way as the road takes a twisting turn up a staircase. But when he sees what's up ahead--and actually quite close--he stops suddenly.

Clearly one of the spiders has been keeping itself busy since its arrival, and the way ahead is strung with glistening, criss-crossed strands. The spider is waiting, pincers clicking and forelegs trembling, up above them.]

[For a minute the black blood in Kaoru that she waylaid in her search for Kenshin surges up, bubbles inside of her. Her eyes dilate to the color of milky-blue for a brief moment as she suddenly jerks, stumbling a bit as she bites her lip.

Yahiko is with her--Yahiko is about to get killed--she's not going to let it happen. Her students--she'll protect all of them!

But then it's just Takuto again, standing beside her as they pant in shock and frustration at the helplessness of the situation. Kaoru smiles a bit grimly. ]

Takuto..you respect me as your sensei, right?

Of course I do.

[He answers with very little thought, seeing as he's occupied with figuring out whether he'd rather fight a horde of zombies or crawl through a maze of spider webs.]
