Description: Witches have invaded and are attacking the city!
The attack, when it comes, happens quickly enough that Death City would have been caught flat-footed had there been no prior warning, but it's not completely unexpected because of the city's heightened state of alarm the past day. Warning sirens start sounding to alert the citizens and guests the moment a dark, slow-moving mass out in the desert to the south-east of Death City is spotted by Shibusen sentries. There's even time for civilians to run and hide before the mass is identified as an army of what looks like decaying, shambling corpses. The city's defenders are slow to move, however; most of them are distracted and are having trouble dealing with the black blood in their bodies. While agents are gathering to head out to deal with the zombie threat, that's when the witches make their move.
Portals begin opening in the skies above the city, disgorging hideous familiars: bulbous spiders and leggy ants the size of dogs. They drop hundreds of feet down into the streets and alleyways of Death City, and scuttle off in search of victims. The spiders are poisonous and can spin copious amounts of web to capture their targets, the ants spit acid that cause agonizing, paralyzing pain. Their masters bear down on the city in a cloud of black shadows--massive ravens strong enough to carry off adult men. There are five witches, women on broomsticks, beautiful if not for their crazed grins and obvious glee at the chaos descending upon the city. At some unknown signal--maybe the cackling from a couple of them--they dive in concert and disappear into different areas of the city.
Their masterful plan has begun!

[He points in the direction of the moaning, shuffling crowd, even as grimaces a little from the knock from her sword. They are, after all, getting closer and Takuto and Kaoru won't be able to retreat.]

His first strike smashes one into a wall. The worst part isn't the sickening wet thud the half-rotted thing makes upon impact, but the smell.]

So she swallows and whacks one right in the head, causing it to crumple and moan on the ground, twitching. Somehow she would much rather hit a living person with her bokken instead--..the way this one fell did not look right. ]

But what kind of place in the city is safe during this?
He easily sidesteps a lumbering zombie's attack, bringing his sword around to the base of its neck. The first blow didn't seem to do the trick, but after he follows through with his other sword, the zombie drops to its knees and then faceplants.]
she's got plans! i take it they'll just be seperated soon?

he will just believe he is leaving her in a safe place?
He attacks with renewed energy, smacking the zombies out of the way without hesitation. He knows he won't be able to keep up this pace forever, but he can perhaps clear a path forward. All Kaoru will have to do is keep close behind him.]

[He can still see her, but with the sudden crowd of undead separating them, it'll be quite a while before he gets back to her. At least she's not surrounded, like he is. Wait... he could do this....]
Kaoru, turn back! I'll draw them off you and meet you two blocks to the north!
[The zombies do seem to be drawn to his voice, so if she's quiet, she should be able to get away.] D-don't worry about me! Just stay quiet and take a breather! We'll regroup soon!

This is it. The one thing I didn't--I thought I could prevent--it's just like Yahiko--I'm failing another student. I'm failing again! Why?! Why are you such an idiot?! Why am I such a..]
I'm not turning back! I'm not leaving a student behind ever again! I couldn't protect Yahiko when he needed me--I had to turn my back on Chrono--I'm not leaving you! [her voice shakes, as she pushes a zombie aside, wincing as one grabs her by the throat, it picks her up--squeezing, as she feebly watches her blood drip down her pants, onto the floor. she feels so small. she hates it. her vision clouds as she rasps out:]
Didn't..we..plan to stay together!? I'm not going to have some punk I"m teaching tell me what to do! [she grits her teeth as she raises her shinai with trembling hands, aiming the point towards the zombie's eyes as it's grip tightens. prepared to thrust through it's skull.]

[But his breath catches in his throat when the zombie grabs her. No no no, he has to protect her! With renewed vigor he attacks the zombies, hardly seeing them anymore, just hitting them and shouting without any words coming out. Brown, coagulated blood seeps and spurts from each zombie he hits, and the sound of their shuffling and hollow groans drowns beneath his yelling. He has to get to her, he wants to get back to her.]

And then she's thrown. Her body is airborn as the zombies flood Takuto, until Kaoru's body can't be seen, until it's just him and a wall of the undead. And no sensei, no best friend in sight. ]

The undead are close around him--too close, as he slips on the slick cobblestone and drops to a knee. They're closing in around him, and all he can hear are Kaoru's words echoing. She wanted to make sure that he could go on without her. Stupid, stupid, stupid! He knows the only way out of this is to turn back, to defend a smaller space where he can't get surrounded... but for now he's just going to keep on dislocating old joints, cracking mouldering bones, and working to desperately find Kaoru.
She's got to be okay....]
