[OPEN] Earthquake Event

It's early in the morning -- just after morning training -- when the ground beneath Death City shakes violently in what most of you might recognize as an earthquake. It's not a particularly huge one for the more experienced of the guests, but it sends cracks shooting through the cobblestoned ground of Death City and up the sides of some buildings. A small handful of structures, mostly those that have been abandoned in the course of this war or the very old ones, take the most damage and topple over or crumble at their foundations.

The earthquake lasts no more than half a minute, but the vibrations and aftershocks last through the day. Death City's streets become full of holes, from those the size of apples to what could be described as deep ditches. The greatest damage, however, is the commercial sector, which becomes flooded as the waterways take damage and spill water into the streets. Shibusen's alarms blare out and quick, urgent orders to fix the waterways and search for the injured or anyone trapped in rubble filter in through all networks.

[Finally reaching his destination: Aqua's district.

Brb, looking all over for her.]

[She hadn't been in her district when the quake happened, but once she was up and about it was the place she headed to without really thinking about it. It was (she's embarassed to admit) the place she's the most familiar with and the place where she'll be the most help.

When he finds her she'll be helping to clear some rubble.]

Aqua!

[IMMEDIATELY ZIPPING OVER.]

[Her head snaps up at the call and...ah. She really shouldn't have done that. Her head was already hurting from earlier, when the quake started and she'd hit her head on something. A sudden movement like that was not helping.

Yeah. Definitely not doing that again.]

Shinsuke. [Smiling and hoping you didn't catch her wincing just now.]

[alastinglight]

[...Too late, he caught that.]

What's wrong? Did you get hurt?

[Immediately hovering now. 8| Forget the fact that you and him haven't talked for a while because he kind of flipped his shit.]

It's nothing.

[Some part of her knew it wasn't, but staying around to help seemed more important so she ignored it.]

[Frowns and steps closer, holding her shoulders and then promptly starting a Thorough Investigation.

Yes, he might be just a bit fussier than he normally would be now.]

[blue_wayfinder]

[Normally she'd protest in that half-embarassed way of hers by insisting she was fine, really. But that faint but persistent headache was making her more snappish than normal. Which was why she was reaching up to push him away and frowning right back.]

Stop that. [It took her a moment longer to focus on his face than it should have but she ignored that.]

[Backing off just a bit, frowning even more.]

We're going to the hospital.

[It's not a question.]

There are still people who need help.

[alastinglight]

And do you really think you'll be able to help them if you're injured yourself?

[blue_wayfinder]

[Yes.

But she presses her lips together and doesn't say it. Because she knows that's not true and because the well-being of others is and always will be enough to get her to step back, to stand down.

She sighed.]

...fine.

[alastinglight]

Good.

[It's a little short, but he's relieved that he doesn't have to argue with you. He turns away, taking her arm. She can slip out of his grip if she wants, but either way? He's started walking.]

[blue_wayfinder]

[She's not going to pull away, but she's not saying anything either. Just following him to the clinic like she said she would.]

[Once they're there, they're seated in the unsurprisingly significant cue of people in the waiting area. He opts to stand, though, on the look out for someone to help.

No words yet either. Hum.]

...I'll be fine on my own. [You should be out there helping. is the unspoken statement.]

[alastinglight]

Maybe so, but I want to know what the doctors will say when they see you first.

[blue_wayfinder]

Shinsuke, they need as many people as they can get helping out there.

[alastinglight]

And the first rule of any emergency situation is that people who are helping ought to go into it fit and equipped. If they're not, they could end up just getting in the way.

[It wasn't condescending. It was a fact, plain and simple.]

[blue_wayfinder]

[It might have been easier if he hadn't stated it as a fact. Because, really, what could she possibly say when he put it like that? It made any reason she could think of sound like an excuse.]

...I know.

[alastinglight]

[He didn't bother responding to that. That she knew now was good enough.

...And now that he had time to slow down, he was going to lean back and shut his eyes for a bit. Still exhausted. Still feeling wrung out over loss. But he'll get better.

He doesn't really have a choice.]

[blue_wayfinder]

[She looked up when no response came, and was struck by just how tired he looked.

She reached out...but stopped halfway, unsure because he'd asked for space and because he wasn't the last friend she hadn't been able to reach out to, hadn't been able to do anything for lately.

But he's here now, that should be all that mattered.

Her hand covered his though she kept thetouch light, not even curling her fingers around his in case he wanted to pull away.]

Shinsuke?

Mm?

[Not hesitating at all to squeeze her hand, open his eyes and try to smile at her.]

...are you all right?

I'm... getting there. Better than when Okita-san first disappeared, though.
