[OPEN] Earthquake Event

It's early in the morning -- just after morning training -- when the ground beneath Death City shakes violently in what most of you might recognize as an earthquake. It's not a particularly huge one for the more experienced of the guests, but it sends cracks shooting through the cobblestoned ground of Death City and up the sides of some buildings. A small handful of structures, mostly those that have been abandoned in the course of this war or the very old ones, take the most damage and topple over or crumble at their foundations.

The earthquake lasts no more than half a minute, but the vibrations and aftershocks last through the day. Death City's streets become full of holes, from those the size of apples to what could be described as deep ditches. The greatest damage, however, is the commercial sector, which becomes flooded as the waterways take damage and spill water into the streets. Shibusen's alarms blare out and quick, urgent orders to fix the waterways and search for the injured or anyone trapped in rubble filter in through all networks.

[Gai turns as he's almost bumped, smiling when he sees who it is.]

Luna! You are all right? Unharmed?

Yes, I'm fine...

[She stares for a moment, and-- oh yes, where are her manners?]

Are you all right?

[spandexisyouth]

[Gai smiles warmly.]

I am! I was only making sure since you seemed distracted. A lot has happened today and it could have been that you were injured and wandering around in shock!

[quibbling]

I'm not yet, anyway. Injured or shocked. Curious, yes -- unusual things can come out after disasters.

[spandexisyouth]

Unusual things?

[Gai looks around, but doesn't see anything right off the bat. Then again, this is a city that has a grinning sun and moon.]

Like what?

[quibbling]

Anything you can think of, and many things that you can't. With earthquakes, it's most likely the former.

[spandexisyouth]

But I thought this was just an earthquake! Why would strange things pop up? You think it may be a precursor to another attack?

[quibbling]

Of course it was just an earthquake, but why would that mean nothing unusual would be afoot?

[spandexisyouth]

[Gai considered.]

Perhaps because Shibusen did not mention it, and I would expect Shibusen to be on things, and letting us know.

[quibbling]

They hide things from us, you know, any organization in their position would. It helps to keep us calm.

[spandexisyouth]

Yes. But we are their fighters. We help defend. Uninformed defenders are at greater risk, and I do not think they would do that. I think they would tell us if there was more threat to the city! ...If they knew.

[quibbling]

Not everyone is a fighter, and they might be hiding things for that reason. There's also a possibility of the lying about the war entirely, although that's only a theory at the moment.

...I don't have much reason to have faith in organizations like Shibusen.

[spandexisyouth]

[Gai nods.] There was a possibility. I have seen enough things myself now, though, that I know it is not lies. But I do not expect you to believe me. Find a partner and take a mission, and you will see. Have your leaders mislead you in your world, then?

[quibbling]

[She nods as well; it's a reasonable explination, and it's always nice when people see her as capable of seeing things for herself.]

Oh yes, all the time. Most people don't know it, but the Ministry has done all sorts of things... enslavement, torture, and wrongly framing others, for a start.

[She seemed smart, if a little strange, on the network. Gai figured she could make sense of things that she saw.]

That is very bad.

[He knew his leadership was semi-capable of it, but at least the head of those behind misinforming and manipulating was dead. Time would tell if someone would step up to fill his place.]

I have heard of slavery thanks to here. I do not know how to really wrap my mind around the concept, though.

[quibbling]

Your world must have been very nice... unless there were other things, worse ones.

[spandexisyouth]

There were... other things. War, torture, destruction, loss. But it was my home and so I will never entirely disparage it.

[Gai shrugs.]

I have only heard of a few places where there was peace, but I doubt that I shall ever see them. I was not made for peace.

[quibbling]

[She nods, not entirely understanding. It seems unfair to say that anybody was "made" for anything, when people all have so many possibilities.]

Do you enjoy fighting that much?

[spandexisyouth]

[Gai hesitates, considering.]

No. I enjoy sparring, and I enjoy training. But I do not enjoy killing, and true combat leads to death.

[quibbling]

Nobody truly enjoys killing, just the things killing can bring them.

Still, I'm glad you can say that.

[spandexisyouth]

There are no things worth having that killing can bring, except peace or safety. And often it does not bring peace. [Gai shrugs.] I follow orders, but I do not find any joy in them.

[He looks over at her.]

What of you? It sounds as if you are not speculating on killing not being enjoyed.

[quibbling]

Well, the place I'm from is in the middle of a lot of conflict, and many people that are all right with killing. The ones we're fighting against, mostly.

[spandexisyouth]

That seems to often be the way for most here. It is interesting that I do not think many from the other side have been brought.

[quibbling]

They're harder to control. BREW isn't perfect, even for its own purposes, but it seems wise enough to keep away those who would side with the enemy.

It's interesting that so many of us have come from a situation where one side and only one side was willing to kill.

[spandexisyouth]

[Gai nods.] There are parallels between many different groups. I think sometimes that I would like to go to one of the few places that does not have conflict, but I think I am not made for places like that. I... [He considers his words.] I think my presence may pollute it, and I do not want to do that.
