[OPEN] Earthquake Event

It's early in the morning -- just after morning training -- when the ground beneath Death City shakes violently in what most of you might recognize as an earthquake. It's not a particularly huge one for the more experienced of the guests, but it sends cracks shooting through the cobblestoned ground of Death City and up the sides of some buildings. A small handful of structures, mostly those that have been abandoned in the course of this war or the very old ones, take the most damage and topple over or crumble at their foundations.

The earthquake lasts no more than half a minute, but the vibrations and aftershocks last through the day. Death City's streets become full of holes, from those the size of apples to what could be described as deep ditches. The greatest damage, however, is the commercial sector, which becomes flooded as the waterways take damage and spill water into the streets. Shibusen's alarms blare out and quick, urgent orders to fix the waterways and search for the injured or anyone trapped in rubble filter in through all networks.

[If the earthquake and the resulting mess hadn't been unsettling enough on its own, the arrival of that man on the network--Kenshin had called him Saitou. The only Saitou she was aware of at all was the third unit captain of the Shinsengumi--but while she knew the man's name she'd never seen him to her knowlege, and it seemed insane that they would be on speaking terms of any kind. But then if he was from so many years after the war, then who knew...]

[But twice he had made reference to Kaoru-san being killed. Once to Kaoru herself, and once to Kenshin. They had all seen so much as it was--she didn't want to even give the thought purchase.]

[She had been watching the network closely in the wake of the commotion for anyone she recognized--though considering they all appeared in that post they had all been covered whether she spoke to them or not. She had attempted to make it to the shop, but everything had been flooded so badly she couldn't.]

[She wasn't exactly the best in this sort of situation, but she had wandered about, helping in some instances where she could. She stopped, noting a figure slumped against the post box and stopped.]

[After a moment's pause she stepped closer, leaning down toward him.]

Are you alright...?

[ooc; orz I am late and kind of dosed on codeine atm so WHEE~]

[She startles him. Minato's eyes blink open and he stares at her, open mouthed.]

... Yeah. I'm okay. [He manages. There's a small pause as he studies her... her manner of dress, her facial features, the dampness of clothing by her feet. It's depressing when he realizes what he was really looking for on her is food.]

Did you come from the flooded section..?

[She doesn't react to the startle, only watches him patiently, silently questioning his statement of being okay.]

[She nods to his question.]

Yes, they're working to contain the water, but it is still quite bad...

[ooc; AND RANDOMLY she's not wearing a kimono, she's got like... a long sleeved sweater, long skirt and flat dress shoes on. orz /always forgets to mention thaaaaaaat]

[Yeah, it looked pretty bad when he got a look at it from the staircase.] I'm glad I don't have a reason to be there...

[He looks at her feet again.] If you don't change that, you'll get sick...

[She nodded carefully... and then looked down to her feet and the hem of her skirt.]

Yes... I imagine so. I'm on my way to do that.

Sitting out here like this may well do the same. [She tilts her head a bit more to observe him.] Are you sure you're alright...?

[Frankly he looked a bit pale and listless--but maybe that was normal, who was she to judge?]

I'm just hungry... [Minato admits after managing to appear even paler and more listless.]

[She blinks at him momentarily. Normally the simple answer to that statement would be 'then eat something', but considering all that was going on that was easier said than done.]

When was the last time you ate anything?

[He looks up at her with a pitiful expression] Yesterday...

[Her brows raise at that, her eyes going fairly wide. ~~Mother... mode... activating...~~]

We need to get some food into you then... [She tentatively offers a hand to him to help him up.] We aren't terribly far from the Creeping Crypts building--do you think you can walk that far?

[Meekly, he takes her hand and lifts himself to his feet. He doesn't let go.] If onee-san helps me... I think I can...

[Under other circumstances she would have pulled away, but considering how wobbly he seemed she didn't draw her hand back--if anything she was ready to steady him with the other arm. She gives him a nod.]

My name is Tomoe.

I'm Minato... [He leans against her and presents her with an appreciative smile.] Are the Creeping Crypts where you live..?

It's good to meet you, Minato-san... [would probably be better if you weren't half passing out on the street, but hey...] Yes, it is.

You're a kind person to be inviting me to your room, Tomo-neechan... [That doesn't usually happen until later.] Creeping Crypts means you're from another world, right..?

It doesn't seem like it will be easy to find food anywhere else right now--or you would have eaten by now, yes? Unless your own residence is closer?

[She nods.]

Yes, I was brought here by BREW...

[He shakes his head. His place is definitely farther (and foodless).]

What world did you come from, Tomo-neechan?

[She gives him a small nod, just continuing on as plan.]

I'm unsure how to answer that--some past parallel of this one it would seem--one without meisters or weapons. The countries here are in my world as well.

I am from Japan, but one from nearly 150 years ago by this world's calendar.

[He nods. He could sort of tell by your features, but... too many worlds.] I'm from Japan too, oneesan. The same year as here...

Is that so...?

I imagine that must have aided in the transition on some level...

[says the dead chick from the 19th century]

A little... It's odd being in America. I wonder if the America back home is like this too or if it is just here...

[He looks to the sky.] Soon I'll catch up to my timeline too...

[She gives a bit of a nod.]

I grew up in Edo... I think it's called Tokyo now...

I've never been to Tokyo, Tomo-neechan, but Japan is very different from how it was 150 years ago. There are many large buildings and plenty of stores. Almost everyone goes to school... and after school we're expected to work in offices...

A little... [He glances around at the city around him. European-style rows of houses, cobblestone streets, old lampposts...] In Japan, our cities are larger and different looking. Death City is too small to even have a train service or bus terminal...
