The life of a Ghost [OPEN]
Characters: Sarah Kerrigan (
ghostofaqueen) & OPEN
Location: In and Around the DOGS office
Rating: PG
Time: January 19th
Description: Sarah doesn't appear often in the public areas around the office, but she's scoping out possible entry points and in the mood to be bothered... or bother people walking by.
Cross posted to Livejournal as well.
While she had always been assured of the state of security around the building, there were times when a military woman just had to look herself. It satisfied her that no one had made an attack on Death City in a long while and that meant that the building that the Watch was situated in was technically very secure. It would be even more secure when Tassadar had put on the finishing touches on the generator as well.
Still, she observed the windows and ledges from the ground before doing the same analysis from the roof of the building and then from the buildings surrounding the Watch. Of course, it was always interesting to watch people come and go from the doors and moving around like this was some kind of communal gathering area.
Using her fingers, she could easily line up some of the people and just... take that shot. It would be a simple shot, but of course, she wasn't allowed to carry a sniper rifle within the city confines. For some reason, people got nervous when a trained sniper wandered around on rooftops with a loaded weapon. She couldn't understand why, she thought with a snort.
Of course, sweeping the outside of the building almost meant that she was required to sweep inside as well. She had no qualms about walking into closed office doors and then out again when she was satisfied. She had even less qualms about prowling the halls looking for suspicious characters. Oh she wanted one so badly, but Roy had a problem with blood on the floor, so she'd have to drag them outside if she wanted to interrogate.

It was a pretty nice day, in his opinion. Quiet, slow. Almost enough to trick a man into thinking that all was well.

"Nothing to report from the sectors aside from the usual criminal activities," she said from where she was crouched. "Decided on a uniform yet?"
no subject
Good thing he was almost done. Roy put out his cigarette and smiled at his new companion.
"Hi, Sarah."
no subject
She watched him and rose to her feet when it appeared that he was finished his break... or whatever it was he called these smoking sessions.
"Hello, Roy. A nice day for a roof-top gathering?"
no subject
Beyond, well, the usual.

Roy turned around, setting his back against the railings, pillowing his arms on top. He glanced up at the sky.
no subject
She watched him silently, reflecting on her conversation with Tassadar and all the horrible emotions the Protoss had brought up. "How is filling the vacancies going?"
no subject
They kept losing people, both within the period where such disappearances were expected and at entirely different times.
no subject
She doubted that he was going to, not with how much he had his fingers in, but it was entirely possible. Even she had to be prepared for that.
no subject
Which did remind him: he still needed seconds. Flynn was growing nicely into his position, but a Plan B in a place like Death City wasn't nearly enough.
no subject
"You had best hire more seconds. Flynn won't be in charge long if you leave," she said simply. She hadn't said she'd protect that one either.
no subject
He answered that first because it was easier, but he wasn't going to avoid things. Not with Kerrigan.
Roy did pause, though, in order to thumb out another stick.
"I've prepared as much as my can on my own - there's little to be done now if isn't enough. As for wanting to go back or not..." he trailed off, taking a drag. "I honestly don't know."
no subject
She made sure to be up wind from him when it seemed he was going to have a second attempt at cancer when the first didn't seem to cool him off. She was fine with that; he was under a considerable amount of pressure.
"The Watch is well-grounded, so you shouldn't worry. People will miss you though." Not her, oh no, no... Ghosts didn't get attached. Okay, maybe a little attachment was okay. "You seem to have built yourself a good life here. Friends, comrades... even a 'family' to a degree."
no subject
It honestly surprised him as well. He hadn't been at his best when he had arrived, and he had tried, for a very long time, to remain cool and unattached from everyone and everything.
Suffice to say, everything he had and everything he was in Death City was not at all what he had expected.
"Still, it's not like I don't have things that need tending to back at home."
...The real question was whether that was true or not. He personally didn't think it was, and yet Riza's arrival did make him wonder.
no subject
"Then I suppose someone else is tended them for you. Don't be so eager to go back; you might miss something here," she replied with a shrug of her shoulders. He could do what he wanted and no one could stop him.
"Of course, the sheer time paradox would be interesting."
no subject
Of course, he, Edward and Riza did not discuss home all that much.
no subject
"You hold a good enough position here to be happy?"
no subject
"Those kinds of ambitions no longer interest me as much."
no subject
"No, you're all soft and domesticated now. What are you ambitions now, Mustang?"
no subject
He had been a very different person back then, and not necessarily a good one.
no subject
She made a show of thinking about that. She wasn't anywhere near becoming friendly with civilians on as much of a level as he would.
no subject
"I do what I have to."
The harder side of him did not have to come out as much as it needed to where he was, which was honestly a good thing.
no subject
"Besides, that hard-ass persona you have deep down is better off away from the public eye. Let others take that role." There were some about, and it was better them then him in her opinion.
no subject
He had his hands full, as things were. Enough of that, though.
"...So, do you want to go back? Now that you know what you know."
It was a touchy question, he knew, but he was rapidly learning that the two of them could speak franlky. If she didn't want to answer, then she didn't. If she did, though...
