[Open] Hit the Slopes
Characters: Everyone!
Location: Mount Hood, Oregon
Rating: Varies
Time: July 28th - 29th
Description: Skiing! Hot chocolate! Snowball fights! Hiking! Folks of Death City say 'screw the heat' and decide to take a frosty vacation a few states away. COMMENCE MISCHIEF.
The discounted price came at a surprisingly good time. With the temperatures in Nevada climbing and no end in sight, it seems the owners of a Pacific Northwestern lodge took pity on the Meisters and Weapons of Shibusen and offered them a break from the heat. Despite it being July, the snow was still plentiful for skiing, snowboarding, sledding and innertubing! Dress warm, rent some gear or bring your own and have at it, they say!
From dawn to dusk, the mountain is lively on all sides, boarders and ski nuts to ski newbies enjoying a mid-week break while nature buffs take hikes over the trails on the greener side of the mountain, reachable by a short bus ride from the main lodge. Whether you're more into the powdery white or the vivid green, there's a spot for you to take a breather on Mount Hood.
The question is, where do you even start?
[I volunteered to put up the log for the Oregon trip, and here it is! Tag in to one, two, or all three of the areas noted and start your own open or closed threads within. Tag yourselves in (you guys know the drill), mingle, and enjoy!]

[And the mention of the Gala makes something click in her memory.]
Ah, that's right. You came in with Karina, didn't you? There were so many people in the shop then, I didn't get to check up on all the customers.
no subject
[ Of course, in response to that second question she smiles and nods a bit more. ]
Yep! Her, me, and Kaede all came over that time. We really had a bit of fun looking through the dresses and stuff while trying to find one.
no subject
[Admittedly, she hadn't been exactly sure what she could do either at first but it wasn't too difficult to figure out since Lezard had been a spellbook too.]
Kaede? I take it that was the young girl with y'all? I haven't spoken to her before either.
no subject
[ Chika nods at the mention of Kaede though. ]
And yeah, that's her. She was a pretty nice kid, and it's probably a good thing that BREW sent her home a while back, all things considered.
no subject
Ah, so she went home. That does sound like a good thing. I have to wonder why that contraption insists on dragging so many young people into a war, especially children as young as that! That's just sadistic! [She shakes her head at BREW's whims.] And there rarely seem to be people my age dragged here so I don't know why it keeps bringing me back either.
no subject
[ She nods. Though she knows how Kaede must've felt, with everyone thinking that she needed to be protected. ]
I know. I mean, I know BREW supposedly just brings the people that it thinks can help, but well... it doesn't seem to be good at thinking about how they'd work with people who are already here. Even if a kid that young is capable, none of the teenagers or adults here are really going to think it that he or she is. Which is just going to cause problems.
[ She frowns a bit, before shaking her head. ]
I don't know why it does that for you either, but you'd think that there'd be more people your age here. Or, you know, actual soldiers at least. That might help.
Sorry this is so late! Got distracted by the holidays and other things. ._.;
[And she nods in agreement.]
I reckon most sensible people would be worried about letting a child that young get involved in fighting demons. I worry about people your age too. It's not likely most would even have any experience battling the supernatural.
Soldiers... Maybe, that would have helped. [It wouldn't have helped with the supernatural back home but the fighting here did seem more along the lines of causing physical harm so it might not be too far off.] I remember one who came into the shop. Steve. But I haven't seen him for quite a while. I wonder if he got sent back too. [She frowns, thinking there's been a lot of people she hasn't seen lately...]
It's alright, it happens.
[ She does frown a bit at the talk about anything. ]
Yeah... I kinda get that. Though from what I've been able to tell, most people here my age actually do have experience with things like that. Or at least know people back home who did. So it's not as odd as it first seems.
But yeah... a lot of people seem like they've been getting sent home lately. It's... kinda worrying.
no subject
Really? Most people where I came from would think that kind of thing was fiction.
[A nod.] I don't think I've heard of any big groups being pulled in lately either and there had been dozens of people when I first ended up here. I wonder if that contraption has decided we're not what it really needs.
no subject
It might not be exactly the same, but well... fighting against monsters and things are fighting against monsters. No matter where they come from.
[ She sighs at that last part though, and nods. ]
Yeah. It's really starting to worry me too. Sometimes it seems like we lose more people than we get. Which... I guess is a good thing, since it means less people who don't want to fight get dragged here into a war. But that... might make our chances a little bit worse.
no subject
And I guess that's true. I doubt most of the people who end up here are happy about it. [A sigh.] But from what I've heard folks say about this war going on for hundreds of years, I don't know if the chances were ever that good in the first place. The problems with all these demons never seems to stop. [She'd only ever had to deal with a couple back home. But here, it seemed like dozens and a weekly thing!]
no subject
I... yeah. The Kishin Eggs probably won't go away, no matter what happens. But the Witches... stopping a war with them is a lot more doable rather than just putting an end to all the monsters.
no subject
no subject
Yeah. I... I mean, I know that back home witches weren't really and stuff, but it hasn't been something in my world for centuries either.
And I know that this actual war started because the Witches here killed the previous Lord Death, but... considering how Deathsytche creation works I'm not completely sure I can blame them.
[ She doesn't say anything else for a few more moments, before sighing. ]
Honestly, I think the only reason most of us are okay with helping Shibusen is because right now those witches keep trying to kill, you know, everyone in the city. Even the ones who don't have a lot to do with Shibusen.
no subject
I doubt it could be every witch that's like that. That would be like saying all witches are ugly hags in league with the devil. I've been told young witches aren't supposed to be violent and it's not as if they chose to be born witches. So, I can't say this war sits completely well with me.
[Actually, she was rather disturbed by it, considering the witch hunts of her world's past. But demons were trouble that regular people couldn't deal with on their own and that was mainly why she fought the kishin eggs.]
no subject
Yeah. I... I don't think that it's possible to say that 'everyone in this group is evil'. People just don't work that way, and it's not like they aren't people. I don't think that Shibusen would go and attack any witches that wanted to just be left alone though.
[ A lot of the people in Shibusen didn't seem to be like that at all. ]
no subject
That's exactly it. A few bad ones doesn't mean they're all wicked witches.
[Yes, there are witches who would use their powers for evil purposes. She even encountered a few back home. But it wasn't fair to judge all witches based on that.]
And even if the people at the school won't do that, calling it a war against witches doesn't give the best impression or reassure that they're not just persecuting a group they don't like.
no subject
Yeah. Okay... I can kinda see why that'd be a problem. But... unless I've missed something, it's not like the witches that are attacking us ever decided to give a different name to the group that they are. I don't really see what else they're supposed to actually call this.
[ "War Against only the Evil Witches who Want to Kill Us" was a pretty long name of a war, after all. ]
no subject
Don't folks claim one of the main troublemakers is a witch named Medusa? I don't know if it's true but I reckon it'd at least be a bit better than just making it seem like a war against all witches.
