With the gala being planned for next weekend, this weekend promised to be a busy one at Yesterday’s Magic. Lily had stayed late to rearrange the shop after hearing the news yesterday and now that she had completed her usual pre-opening salt water, sage, and candle ritual, she paused to survey her handiwork before unlocking the door.

On one side, the racks towards the front were now hung with suits, tuxedos, and the occasional tailcoat covering every decade from the 1890s to the 1980s. And on the other side, clouds of tulle, taffeta, lace, and chiffon enveloped the racks, some of the outfits pricey but generally cheaper than a new gown at a department store would be. Baskets of glittering costume jewelry, opera gloves, shawls, and bow ties waited, their contents soon to adorn partygoers’ arms and necks. Vintage heels, dress shoes, and even a few top hats lined the shelves next to the small curtained-off spaces that served as changing areas. The business suits, more casual everyday clothes, and frilly old-fashioned lingerie had been moved to the back and the whole shop was scented with fresh laundry and rosemary and sage.

Turning to the shop window, Lily adjusted a sign advertising that tailoring services were available and the smaller one next to it that read “Help Wanted.” Now that business had picked up somewhat, another clerk or two would be a help. With Kanji taking missions regularly—he would be out today but was scheduled to be in Saturday and Sunday—and her need to frequently go out in search of new inventory, Yuugi being left to watch the shop alone wasn’t uncommon. Satisfied that everything was in place, she unlocked the door and flipped the closed sign to open.

[A nod.] Okay. I have styles up to the 1980s although mens formalwear hasn't changed too drastically over the decades. Mostly just the details like the width and shape of the lapels and whether there's a vest or not. Did you have any preferences about those?

I'd like to look at suits with and without vests, please. As for lapels...the simpler, the better.

Sure. I only have a few sets that include matching vests but I've got dozens of individual vests that could be paired with suits. Do you know what size you need? [That would help narrow things down although vintage clothes tended to run small.]

[prosecutory]

Of course.

[Edgeworth gives his sizes; it's no issue at all since 1) he's a guy and 2) why should it be an issue.

Basically he's the size of a regular grown man, 5'10" in height, wide around the shoulders and chest and solidly built because of all the training he's been doing around these parts.]

Hmm... Should we just handwave the rest of this since it's pretty old?

[She nods as he lists the sizes and gives him a quick look over.]

I'll take a look and see what might suit you.

[And she would flip through the racks in search of a tuxedo that would both fit and be flattering.]

Sure, we can handwave it at this point!

[And Edgeworth isn't just going to stand there and rock back and forth on his heels waiting for her, nosiree. He's going to follow a short distance behind to see what she has in mind for him.]
