[OPEN] June 2013 Introduction Log

Description: Welcome to Death City!

BREW's at it again. After powering up, giving energy readings on the night of the 5th that alerted Shibusen to new arrivals, they turn now to volunteers to assist in giving the newcomers the information and supplies they need.

Perhaps you're one of the ones who woke up in the Kishin Chamber on the morning of the 6th. Perhaps you live in Casualty Communal and were woken up by equipment transporting strange x-ray machines to rest in front of the building, prepared to scan the fresh meat and determine which are Meisters and which are Weapons.

The sun is laughing high in the sky as temperatures soar to 110 degrees F. The air wobbles in the distance, and many citizens are drinking plenty of iced tea and lemonade to cool down. One group of children has popped open a fire hydrant and are playing in the spraying water before the police arrive to give them trouble.

No doubt the new arrivals are confused... let's give them a warm welcome, shall we? But not too warm- stay hydrated and cool, everyone!

And new guys? Welcome to the desert.

Dave tried to talk to me about it, but I brushed him off. It wasn't until I brought up having an intervention for Terezi, that he straight up told me Rose needs one too, and even then, I didn't really believe him. But her Seer powers are one of the most useful abilities, according to Aradia, and combined with her God Tier status, she could be the difference between victory and defeat, and I didn't even consider the fact that the human soporific could mess with her abilities. _{[Well, yeah, okay, but he doesn't feel like a Knight. Then again, Dave would probably say the same thing.]} Yeah. At least there's that. Still, no one knows shit about Blood, and it doesn't help that Kankri was completely useless and didn't do shit with his powers either.

_{[Amaterasu and Kanaya would probably get along pretty well, come to think of it. Maybe he should introduce the two of them.]} Sure. Plans? I don't know. Not really. It kind of depends on who's here, and that changes at the blink of a ganderbulb. I could be gone tomorrow, or I could be here for years. It just seems stupid to plan if I don't even know when I'm going to leave.

_{[Oh shit. Self loathing vs. Kanaya's fashion expertise. Gulp.]} ...Hi? _{[He's so screwed.]}

I, being closest to her, should have been more aware of the effects the soporifics were having on her. Not simply in the short term, but in the long term as well. I had been willing to take her words and assurances at face value, not doubting in her as she had yet to let any of us down before. [ A shake of her head. ] The mistakes made are easy to see, now, but at the time I had thought little of it; a measured plan, a prepared course of actions to lead up to things... who was I to doubt her as a Seer? [ She runs a hand through her hair, trying to shake off the feeling. Admitting to having made such an obvious mistake didn't feel good at all. ] It is possible that your blood powers could have already manifested in things you have done thus far, or they could be laying dormant and waiting to appear at the precise, crucial moment. We have no way to tell, unfortunately.

[ They probably would; and they'd chat up an incredible storm, honestly. Talk of all kinds of things until the sun set, and then some. ] While the mercurial reality of who is or is not here is something we should not ignore, that does not mean you should let it rob you of chances. For example. [ A smile, and a pat on his shoulder. ] Now that I am here, even as much as I would like to return, I am not letting that desire affect things here. After all, you and others are here. At the very least, we can make the most of our reprieve, however brief or lengthy it may be.

[ Ah-ha. That's what she thought. She lightens up the look, at least, not keeping him under the spotlight. ] You are incorrect, regarding the suit. Allow me to reiterate, without any notions of deliriousness interrupting: You, Karkat, are going to wear a suit and will undoubtedly feel as sophisticated and suave as you will look.

Don't say that. We had no idea what the effects were, and Dave wasn't bringing it up his concerns to you through his stupid rambles and turning it into some stupid metaphor and then changing the subject. You had even less cause for concern than I did. Don't worry about it. If our positions were swapped, I would have made the same mistake. _{[His blood powers don't exist as far as he concerned. He's always been useless and different, and he always will be, but he's not suicidal enough to bring that up to Kanaya.]} I wish they would hurry up and do something already. Even if they manifest when I need them most, I won't know how to control them, which still means they'd be basically useless.

Make the most of it doing what? All I've really been doing is making sure no one does something stupid, and working. I've been meaning to go on a mission too, since the first one was kind of an extreme circumstance. I was going to go with Meenah, but I guess she's busy getting into trouble somewhere, since I haven't seen her around lately. Beyond that, I don't really know what else I want to do.

_{[Just accept it Karkat. Just accept it and keep your self-loathing to yourself.]} Well, if you help me find a suit, it probably won't be too bad.

You are correct in that regard. I found that Dave and his so called jam sessions and raps were notably unproductive and rarely resulted in any manner of information that I could glean any sort of productive benefit out of. Still, it is all too easy to look back and regret mistakes. [ With a slight shake of her head, her tone is all reassurance. ] Unless they manifest and you already have full mastery over them, such as an inherent skill at utilizing them to your benefit.

Well, if all goes well with practicing and training, I am certain I could spare some time for a mission if you would like. [ A nod. ] Meanwhile, as an example, I would think that dinner parties and time indoors with good company are an enjoyable thing to plan for and attend to relax. Including viewing movies; I imagine the human selection of titles is vast.

[ The self-loathing could be worked on later, but after his reply, she smiles. ] I highly suspect you will, in fact, like it.

They're obnoxiously difficult to understand, but sometimes there's a grain of truth in there. I guess if we did anything differently we'd be doomed, anyway. _{[Notice he said sometimes and not all the time.]} And with my luck, what exactly are the chances of that happening?

That would be awesome. We'd kick some serious ass. I'll have to hurry and get you used to using me, so we can head off pretty soon. I've been eager to go on another mission for a while. Movies. Good idea. Human cinema is nothing compared to ours, but I'd like to see what they consider their 'classics' at least. _{[And all the romcoms. Shh.]}

It'll be different, for sure. _{[He totally will, but he won't admit it.]}

Sometimes. [ She gives it a moment to consider the thought, but all she manages is a little 'heh'. ] I will leave deciphering his words in your capable hands, unfortunately. I do not believe I could make it through even a single time listening. And yes, you are quite right. [ But then she shakes her head. ] We all have our good and bad luck, I imagine yours is due for a positive turn.

I believe that we will indeed, so practice is that much more important. [ A grin. ] I hope mastering the grace involved in fighting with sickles comes easily. Meanwhile I also hope to properly identify my Meister ability soon. [ And a nod at the 'classics' comment. ] I agree, the classics seem an ideal starting point. Likely they have a considerable number for us to view at our leisure. [ She won't comment if he won't, but she wouldn't turn down a romcom if he asked. ]

[ Meanwhile she's just all smiles about the suit situation. ]

Yeah, well, when you hang out with him alone on a daily basis for three years, you start catching on to what he's actually babbling about. Kanaya, I'm pretty sure once the universe has sworn to hate my forever, it's not going to turn around and give me useful powers that actually show up when I need them and do useful shit.

Your Meister ability? OH shit, yeah, that's right, I always forget meisters have those. Honestly, they're probably cool and all, but you don't need to figure out what yours is to fight. It's just sort of an extra benefit if you do. Sweet. We are so having a movie night then. It sucks they probably don't have grubcorn here.

Does that mean you will be kind enough to translate him, should he get overly 'babbly' here as well? He doesn't have the cape here, I hope, so that is one less risk to being around him. [ An amused little chuckle. Sorry Karkat, she jokes because she cares. ] And we will see, then, but I have hopes for the best.

Ah. Then, I suppose I shall merely keep open to experimenting to discover what it is. First, though, practice will be a priority. [ And a nod. ] We can likely find a substitute for grubcorn, but I look forward to the movie night.

[ And no, she's not gonna stop smiling. She's tempted to squish his cheeks and pull them a bit to make him smile, just to see what he does... but she resists. ]

Sure, I'll try. God knows I'm getting a lot of practice since we're living in the same hive at the moment. The sooner he's healed, the better. No, he doesn't have a cape thank fucking god. ...Yeah. I can't really say the same but I'm glad you're able to hope, at least.

Yeah, of course. Morning training is perfect for training. I think they'll like it. They have food and a fucking hug brigade and everything. Yeah. Me too.

[ A nod and a smile. ] I imagine that a great deal of peace and quiet will come from his recovery, given that he will likely spend far less time indoors. I will also politely refrain from offering him a cape, or the idea to obtain one. [ Another nod. ] Then I will hope twice as much, in your stead.

Morning training it is. [ A smile. ] Would you be against having multiple movie nights? I imagine there are a number of films to cover.

Thank you. [ Again, though this time for the compliment. ] I was able to choose a temporary residence, yes. On the top floor. [ For hopefully obvious reasons. ]

That's good. Did you want me to help you get settled and everything? We could go pick up some stuff, even if you're not planning on staying there for too long.

I would welcome the help, yes. I do not exactly have everything I need to survive for very long, even temporarily. So supplies would be welcome. [ ie: Lead the way; She's new here. ]

Okay, what stuff are you looking to find? I mean, there's the basics obviously, food and water, and you'll probably want some blankets and shit for your bed, since we don't have sopor here, or at least not yet. It's in the works, apparently. And uh, kitchen stuff probably, to cook with. We'll start with that stuff, before you get carried away with clothes. _{[Boo shopping. Oh well, he volunteered, so he's going to follow through.]}

All of that seems particularly ideal; and you are correct that clothing can wait. I am not at all in dire need of a wardrobe just yet, though it will come in time. [ A little pause. ] Though I would not complain if we were to find a plant or two as decoration.

Alright. I guess we're going shopping then. ...Wait, a plant? You really want a plant that bad? I mean, I get it, you like plants, but you're going to put plants before food and water? Before clothes?

Thank you for accompanying me. [ She shakes her head, though, at his words. ] I would not wish to bore you with obtaining clothes, and food and water are a priority. But I imagined finding a plant would be bearable to include in today's venture.

Sure. It's the least I could do really. Signless shopped for me and showed up with it at my god damn hive. ...It was probably a good thing he did, since I probably wouldn't have bothered doing it myself.

Sure, okay, fine. A plant. What kind do you want? The uh...flowery kind? Or a bush? Or a big ass tree? _{[His knowledge of plants is clearly limited.]}

Admittedly I believe a plant with uses outside of merely growing would be ideal. As I understand it, Aloe plants have considerable use. [ Meanwhile she's learned about earth plants, alternian plants, all the plants. ]

It wasn't like I needed the help really. I mean, I would have gotten off my ass and bought stuff eventually. But it was...helpful.

Oh. Yeah, that would be cool. You could also get a plant that makes fruit, like an apple tree or something.

Sooner was likely better than eventually.

I could, though such plants are notably harder to care for. However I have been told that strawberries are definitively simpler than most fruits to grow. [ ...also apples were not near the top of her favorite fruits list. ]

Yeah. It was. I didn't realize I'd be moving into the same hive as Dave and John so soon after I moved in, but it helped a lot when I was still in Casualty Communal.

_{[He blames Dave for the apple suggestion.]} Strawberries huh. Aren't they kind of small plants? Could you grow them inside?
