[CLOSED] Careful and steady

Description: Kotetsu told Karina to look after Kaede during the riots. Although that has already passed, that doesn't mean Karina can't try to spend more quality time with her.

[In the midst of all the rebuilding and everyone tending to their injuries and the like, a little spot of sunshine wouldn't hurt. And today, Karina decided to take a break from helping out at the clinic to spend time with Kaede. Sure, she supposed that she wouldn't be so lonely with so many pets to take care of, but all the same, she thought that it would be nice to get to see her again.

With how hot it was outside and the expectation that she might be helping Kaede with some dog walking, Karina's dressed to keep cool, with her hair up in a high ponytail. But even that won't save her from the fact that she really hated hot weather. Even so, that didn't deter her from her visit.

It only took a quick walk to get from Casualty Communal to Fatality Condominiums. Once there, Karina stepped up to the Kaburagis' door and rang the bell.]

Kaede made a sour face at the mention of that man's name, because all she could think about in connection with it was him holding her at gunpoint before. "I hope not, that would be a big mess."

But now to a subject change. "Have you found a partner yet?"

[gonext]

"Yeah..."

Anyway, moving on to the next topic...

"No. I've only been here for just a few days. I haven't even gotten to really see what Meisters and Weapons do in action. What about you, Kaede?"

[traust]

"Just a little, I sometimes go to morning training but Dad watches me. I can show you some stuff I learned."

Maybe they could practice together, even with Kaede's mind drifting away to other priorities.

It's no problem at all!

[gonext]

"That sounds a lot like him to watch over you while you train. But yeah, I think I'd like to see what you learned so far. I think you've got potential to be a hero," Karina said matter-of-factly. She had to admit, she was very impressed with Kaede when she managed to escape her bounds and use Karina's ice powers against that anti-NEXT mad scientist.

The sun, however, was being quite relentless with its heat. And Karina felt a little uncomfortable hearing it bellow over their heads. If they were to try practicing together, maybe they could pick up some ice cream first.

"Y-you think so? Well I do have a good mentor." She bragged while they made their way into the ice cream store to cool off.

"You're a meister, so I can show you a few things I know."

[gonext]

"Awesome. Maybe after ice cream?" Karina smiled as they entered the shop. Thankfully, they were alright with having the dogs inside. Looking over the flavors they had, she wasn't all that surprised that all of them seemed to have a Halloween theme going on even in the summer heat.

"I'll treat you out today."

[traust]

"Sure! If it gets cooler that is." It was so hot and she would get all yucky and sweaty really fast.

Kaede nodded, almost expecting that since her expenses were always covered for. She went over to eye the sweet colored frozen treats, selecting the rocky road mix in a cone.

[gonext]

"Well, we'll see about that."

She ordered both Kaede's ice cream, and got something for herself: a light raspberry sorbet in a cup.

"If I get a chance to work as a singer here again, maybe I'll get to treat you to something bigger," Karina laughed as she handed Kaede's cone over to her before taking her own cup and leading the younger girl and the dogs to a booth by the window. "Maybe a dress or a nice pair of shoes for going around the city."

[traust]

"Wow thank you. That's really a lot to offer." She's a little flustered from being spoiled by somebody she looked up to. She sits next to the booth, holding her cone up far away from the dogs to make sure they don't bite it off.

"Maybe you could ask one of the who runs the festivals and stuff?"

[gonext]

"That's an idea. I'll wait until a festival happens here. Does it happen often?"

[traust]

"There was one time, like back in April... But the witches came and sabotaged it later. It was still fun if you got there before they attack."

[gonext]

"I see... well, I'll definitely watch out for the next time it happens. And if the bad guys come, I'll do my best to be a hero for Death City!" Karina puts on her most confident expression, channeling a bit of the bravado she had as Blue Rose.

[traust]

"Will you i>put their crime on hold?" She giggled, repeating Karina's mantra from her Blue Rose persona.

[gonext]

"Well, why not? I don't need my ice powers to do that," Karina laughs. "I guess, as long as I've got the guts like your dad, I can totally still be a hero."

Karina leans back against her seat now, eating a little more of her ice cream before continuing.

"Have you ever considered becoming a hero, Kaede?"

[traust]

"Mmm, maybe but my dad wouldn't let me do it in a hundred years." She licked off the top of her ice cold treat. "But I don't think my powers would work that well anyway. One minute I have my dad's power, the next I'm attracted to magnets!"

[gonext]

"But doesn't your power change when you touch someone else? It would really come in handy, especially when you're working with other NEXTs," Karina mused, imagining Kaede being part of her team. Truth be told, it could be really incredible with the right teamwork or the right connections.

[traust]

"I guess, but it was so hard to get ahold of. Maybe if I had your power and could turn off the switching..." She was better at ice powers than anything else from what she experimented than before. The memories power was just a fluke.

[gonext]

"Was the switching really hard to control?" Karina never really had seen such a power before. And truth be told, NEXTs really still were quite a mystery. Powers like hers and the others at Hero TV were easy to understand. They were all simple and straightforward. But those like Maverick's, Kaede's, and even Jake Martinez's needed some time to grasp due to the tricky little details behind them.
