[Event Log] Mission #202 - San José

Description: It's an evacuation! Get people out of there and keep the kishin eggs off of them!



They arrive to sirens, frantic car horns, and shouting voices. The local police are frantically trying to maintain some sort of order: Between soul-eating monsters, panicked people and worse - people who step forward and swear they can take them on - they have their hands full. They're awfully glad to see you, and are happy to point you in the direction of where they'd last seen monsters.

But there's no need to be pointed, they're everywhere, both old and new as they're attracted by the fear and the promise of a feast of souls. Combined with spiking madness making them inconsolable and the shadows passing overhead - witches here to catch a damn good show and 'help things along' - the people here are in dire straits.

It's your turn, agents! Get the civilians out of there, and give the kishin eggs hell, but don't let a witch spot you!

Well, this was certainly something to see. Judai didn't know what he had been expecting, but it definitely wasn't this much chaos. For a moment, all that filled his eyes was the sight of entire villages thrown into disarray, people dying by his hands, but then he shook the image off (by literally shaking his own body) and tightened his grip on Johan's haft.

"This is insane."

He didn't waste any time, though, before stepping in to protect some people just trying to get away from one of the monsters. "Hurry up, I've got this." He didn't spare them another glance as he swung Johan, hoping mostly to keep things at bay long enough for people to get to safety.

It was gonna be a long day, wasn't it?

Judai's mental state was more than apparent to Johan, and while the whole story behind the mood shift was still something he wasn't entirely familiar with, he knew well enough that it was something that needed to be kept in check. He reached out with his own wavelength to Judai's, trying to embrace the feelings his partner was having.

"Just keep your focus - we can do this," he assured the other, sending pulses of calming confidence his way as he was swung toward the monster.

Honestly, Judai wasn't sure if he wanted to be reassured right now. Keeping calm wasn't the best way to be in a fighting situation. All the same, he letting the soothing wavelength wash over him while he beat down the first monster and turned to find himself facing another.

"Damn, I just want to help people out of here, not be surrounded by these things." He seemed mildly disgruntled, but he raised Johan again, leaping onto the offensive once more.

Which is why he isn't trying to overbear the wavelength with simple soothing feelings. One of them needed to keep a level head in this situation, he felt, but Judai's high emotions would probably prove to be more helpful than a hindrance in this particular situation.

"Just think, once we get rid of some of these things, it will be easier to get everyone to safety." Latching on to the energy surge of Judai going back into attack mode, he put his own priorities into matching the feeling and increasing the resonance so the strike would be all that more effective.

It was hard for Judai to concentrate on resonance at the same time as fighting, so it was probably a very good thing that he had such a calm partner. It was fairly simple for him to dispatch the next monster, but by this point two more had popped up behind him without him noticing.

And one of them was lunging for Judai, aiming to take him down quickly.

Once of the many benefits of the weapon transformation was that it allowed Johan a 360 degree view, rather than just what was 'in front' of him.

"Behind you," the warning was sent to Judai not in an attempt to distract him, but at most inform him. After that, Johan's own soul seemed to soak up a good deal of energy very suddenly, before unleashing it in the form of a bright flash in the direction of the two kishin eggs that had attempted to ambush them, causing the closest one to falter in his efforts, disoriented.

In the moment before the blinding flash, Judai knew what was about to happen. He closed his eyes against the light as he spun on the spot, swinging Johan to connect awkwardly with one of the monsters. After a brief moment, he opened his eyes again and hacked at it more properly, taking it down one swing at a time.

"Thanks, Johan. That was a good save!"
