[ semi-closed] they just keep trickling in
Characters: New guests and their volunteer helpers
Location: Around Shibusen
Rating: G
Time: April 19-20
Description: Another small BREW hiccup results in another "round" of unexpected newcomers into the city.
Just like last time, a very small group of individuals has appeared within Death City, and just like last time, no one even knew about it. Fortunately things have been relatively calm these past few days and it's an especially warm day today, so at least any impromptu help and touring should go smoothly.
[ooc: Just like last time, this is a consolidated log for the volunteer intro buddy system. Either the new character or the volunteer can start the thread. For each thread, indicate the character names in the subject line. Whether or not another character is pulled in is up to the players, BUT the threads are closed to the initial partnered characters (hence the "semi-closed" label.
The new characters are also free to start a thread with one another if they so wish.]

[Oh Saber....]
This world is quite the strange one, indeed. But I must admit, though I was quite angry upon waking up here, my interest is somewhat outweighing my frustration!
[It's good if she just... tries not to think about her Master. Her poor Master, now all alone in her final moments...
Her hands clench at that thought, but she tries not to let her smile fade. No need to keep showing all those nasty negative emotions around someone she barely knows.]

Yeah, they always wonder why until they meet the guy.
[But he recovered quickly enough. Instead he focused on informing her as best as he could.]
You're one'a the quicker ones to get used to things. It ain't so bad once that happens, especially if you're used to fighting. What I do here ain't too different from what I did back home, so I got into the swing of it pretty quick.
Uh... what else...
Oh yeah. BREW was nice enough to stop the timeline it plucked ya from. At least, that's what people are sayin'. So whatever it was you were up to right until ya woke up here, you'll go right back to it when you're dismissed. So for a lotta people here, this is kind of a break. For some... they get to live a little longer.
Some people still think this place is purgatory or whatever, too.
[He still didn't get that, but he could understand the people that were looking death in the face before coming... to Death City... huh. Was this a better alternative?]
no subject
What of those still in whatever sort of world we were taken from? What happened to them?
no subject
[Of course, that said nothing of what happens when you die here. He didn't know that, but he had a friend from another timeline killed in the line of duty. Even now, Kanji had to wonder what would happen to that little thread...]

How absurd... does this BREW believe it is doing a service by freezing the events unfolding in our homes? [Her voice is still low, but there's a deadly edge to it now. Not like before, with her flamboyant threats and demands. She means business now.] Perhaps someone needs to step up and learn how to control this device, because not everyone left behind is fortunate enough to be frozen in a good situation!
[And that's what this all comes down to. Saber, the selfish hedonist that she is, can only think of someone else's situation right now. Not her own. How can she think of herself when her Master is stuck in some kind of limbo? Possibly because of her?
... Damnit. This place just keeps getting worse and worse.]

[It was a hopeless situation, their doorway here to begin with, but Kanji didn't know about the Book of Eibon, nor the possibility of it holding knowledge of BREW's invention. Whether it was in Shibusen's hands or the Witches was currently unknown.]
Right now, they got the brains takin' apart the Madness Emitters we went in to power down, see how the Witches are usin' it. I dunno if they'd know more about BREW, but it's worth a shot, right?

It is one thing for this place to interest me. It is a completely different thing for me to care about the plight of these people, who are not my people nor the person I have sworn to serve.
no subject
And I said the same thing once. I told 'em, this ain't my city. This ain't my fight. I got plenty of those to do at home. But... I still give it my damn all, do what I can with the power I got.
But you just got here. It's a shitton to take in. Before you decide on somethin', whether you wanna fight or not... Sleep on it, y'know?

[She's being strangely selfish, she knows. Thinking of one person over many? That one person may not be herself, but she can still be selfish. And she's okay with that.
... Except she's really not. Or not as okay with it as she originally thinks. So her anger simmers down again and she grumbles, gritting her teeth and crossing her arms, looking at anything but Kanji.]
That is wise advice. I think I will follow it.
no subject
Shit... I hate takin' these damn things all the time! But it ain't like an escalator here'd work out- with our luck it'd always break.
[He eased out a breath.]
A'right. Before ya head off to see the head honchos, lets give that soul a scan, figure out which you are. Won't matter if ya choose not to fight, but it won't hurt to figure that out, right?
no subject
Maybe she's also eager to prove to everyone that Emperor Nero's soul isn't a shriveled, black little thing, or entirely nonexistant. But that would be petty.
And therefor completely in-character.]Ah, but is this really that exhausting a climb? [Surprisingly, this small woman who doesn't seem that physically intimidating hasn't even broken a sweat on the trek up the stairs.] This is nothing. I have traveled over far worse conditions.
no subject
Then it gets seriously cold at night, so a run up these stairs helps warm you up.
[But the building before them was another oddity, very symmetrical in all sorts of ways, and beyond clean despite the students milling about the front 'yard', chatting away and studying after a lesson.]
This here's the Death Weapon Meister Academy. ...Shibusen's less of a mouthful, though. Here they train up Weapons and Meisters while teachin' 'em about resonance and all that stuff.
Also optional; never set foot in a class myself. [Even if... the Weapon he lives with gives him a very, very dirty look for skipping.]
Anyway, the soul scanners are inside. They're like x-rays and they tell ya which one you are. We usually have a big set-up for when huge groups of new people roll in, but lately it's just been spitting people out at random.

What in Apollo's name is that?!
no subject
[He was so damn used to the thing at this point that he'd forgotten.]
The sun. Moon's like that, too. They both like to drool sometimes, and there's a lotta people who play Dodge The Drool when that happens.
[Said with an absolute straight face. Few things phased him any more about this world.]
no subject
[What. The. Fuck.]
Are there any other absurd things about this world I should be made aware of?
no subject
There's another rumor that you resonate better with your partner if you kiss 'em or sleep in their bed. Uh... th-that's bullshit, too.
no subject
Oh, but that second thing certainly catches her interest...]
Oh? And why do you think such a thing is so absurd? Physical contact can create a wonderful union between two individuals, you know. [A slow grin spreads across her face, and she chuckles in a very not-so-innocent way.] If forging a close bond is the key to this "resonate" business you mentioned, then what better better way to do so?
no subject
B-because it just IS, damn it! I m-mean, if that's what it took, then me and-- [Whoa. WHOA. Hey, let's reel this shit back! Backpedal, Kanji! Backpedal for your life!!]
I-it's been proven wrong, that's all ya need to know!!
no subject
no subject
Th-there's no myth to test! Cut that out!!
obvs this is the best time to go hit up his new post
Besides, if I'm mistaken, why have you become so flustered, hmm? A simple misunderstanding shouldn't cause such a reaction!
Yes, of course.
[Yeah, he needs a minute. Whew.]
no subject
Does a bit of lighthearted teasing truly exhaust the people of this age so quickly? Strange...
no subject
...Let's get your damn soul scanned. [Ohhh, grumpy grumpy. He tried not to stomp a little as he made his way to the front doors of Shibusen.]
no subject
[She laughs again before trailing behind him.] After you...
