[OPEN] Mission 156

Characters: Open to participants who signed up here.
Location: Lake Tahoe, CA
Rating: Various.
Time: March 27th, late morning.
Description: The second of the three Madness emitters outside Death City is the target for this mission. Bundle up, everyone -- it's gonna be a cold one.

The mission begins late in the morning, to allow the mission-goers as much sunlight as possible in the warmest part of the day. Not that it'll help much… Temperatures are well below freezing already -- unnatural even for early Spring in the mountains -- and a howling snowstorm threatens to blot out the sun, beginning up the mountain where the slope just begins to rise sharply.

The slopes themselves are fairly barren: a windswept-looking tree here, a cabin that may have once belonged to the snow patrol there, maybe a Madness-crazed bear or mountain lion. Those braving the storm are lucky enough to see five feet in front of their face in these conditions!

Those brave few who manage to make it to the top (enduring falling temperatures and defeating the corrupted fauna and hulking kishin yeti along the way) may come across their goal at the very summit of the half-mile-high mountain: the Madness emitter itself, in the eye of the storm… And one last obstacle: the Witch guarding it.

"Weapon," Gray answered immediately, feeling himself tense up as the kishin egg emerged from the trees.

It... really was bizarre-looking. He had never seen a kishin egg before now, and had only gone off descriptions of huge monsters from other people. The glinting teeth and claws detracted from the fluffy appearance of the thing, and the whole situation gave him a bad feeling in general.

"Are you a Meister?" he asked back, ready to either transform either way, whether it would be his arm or his whole body. If the other guy unluckily happened to be a Weapon as well, Gray could at least get a good solid hit in before being forced to retreat.

And if he happened to be a Meister... Gray wasn't particularly thrilled to try resonating with a complete stranger who didn't even seem human, but under duress like this, he'd take whatever he could get.

Tassadar's eyes narrowed as he saw the beast attempting to hunch over and appear threatening. Perhaps he might have felt such a way had he been half of his age and not gone up against the zerg, but he had faced creatures far more horrible than this on the battlefield. It didn't help that Tassadar's size seemed to match, if not subtly surparse, the hulking size of the Kishin Egg. He knew not to underestimate it though, and that it would be far too dangerous to attempt using his Meister ability on the creature unless it was a dire situation.

"I am a Meister," the templar offered while moving to stand alongside the much smaller male. The Kishin Egg saw the threat, and Tassadar wasn't in the least bit surprised when the beast snarled and began to rapidly close the distance between them. Holding out his large hand, the once-Executor stated, "We either fight together or retreat, the choice is yours."

Despite the situation, a small smirk found its way onto Gray's face. "You don't even have to ask. I'm not in the habit of running away from small fries like these," he said confidently. Concentrating, he let himself change into his Weapon form, an ice lance, and fell backwards into Tassadar's waiting hand.

If he was asked to describe their resonance, Gray would have said something like 'tentative'. They didn't know each other, and were only brought together by circumstance. But it was better than nothing. Calm and confidence flowed from Gray through their link as he focused squarely on the kishin egg.

Let's go.

This is fine! :D

He felt some relief in knowing that he would not have to run from this battle. It was a pleasing thought indeed, and the templar nodded his head as he reached forward to wrap his large hand around the long ice lance. The weapon form was similar to what his people used in battle, but far longer in length, and for the moment he gave the Weapon a test-swing as the large Kishin Egg continued to close in on them.

Their resonance was to be expected, and the templar never once allowed the heavy weight of the weapon to slow him down. It was just fortunate that there was no actual pain, and that all he had to concern himself over as a weapon that was near twice the weight that it should have been.

"Terrie Khala!" He called out as he sprung into action. Tassadar moved effortlessly over the ground, covering it just as quickly as the incoming beast, before he crouched and leapt high over the creature's head. He twisted elegantly over the beast and used the momentary distraction to bring the lance down to impale the creature's shoulder.

It was like there was something physically weighing their resonance down and filtering it, for a lack of better words; nothing like the sharp clarity he had felt with Lyon, or even the mutual, quiet determination with Hanabi.

But it worked.

A puzzled thought was spared for the briefest of moments as Tassadar called out some words that were foreign to Gray, but the moment passed and the fight began in earnest. The lance sunk into the kishin egg almost effortlessly, the literally cold-as-ice tip of the lance only accentuating the damage.

He had been able to manifest actual ice on the practice dummy, Gray remembered. Focusing energy through his Weapon form, Gray tried to repeat the act; it would definitely help a lot if they managed to freeze the kishin egg.
