[OPEN] Mission 156
Characters: Open to participants who signed up here.
Location: Lake Tahoe, CA
Rating: Various.
Time: March 27th, late morning.
Description: The second of the three Madness emitters outside Death City is the target for this mission. Bundle up, everyone -- it's gonna be a cold one.
The mission begins late in the morning, to allow the mission-goers as much sunlight as possible in the warmest part of the day. Not that it'll help much… Temperatures are well below freezing already -- unnatural even for early Spring in the mountains -- and a howling snowstorm threatens to blot out the sun, beginning up the mountain where the slope just begins to rise sharply.
The slopes themselves are fairly barren: a windswept-looking tree here, a cabin that may have once belonged to the snow patrol there, maybe a Madness-crazed bear or mountain lion. Those braving the storm are lucky enough to see five feet in front of their face in these conditions!
Those brave few who manage to make it to the top (enduring falling temperatures and defeating the corrupted fauna and hulking kishin yeti along the way) may come across their goal at the very summit of the half-mile-high mountain: the Madness emitter itself, in the eye of the storm… And one last obstacle: the Witch guarding it.

/super late I'm so sorry orz
"Petrov-san needs someone getting underfoot if only to slow him down," Obito muttered, stepping forward and attempting to press a thermos of hot chocolate into Kerrigan's hands. If he could get them away from the subject of Gai encounter with her in the clinic that would be a blessing. "Here, drink this. I don't need to worry about you freezing out here along with everyone else."
No worries :)
She looked off towards the tent at the mention of slowing Yuri down, and she huffed, a cloud of steam coming from her lips. "Mr. Petrov needs to do a lot of things, including show emotion and speak in normal conversations," she replied as she narrowed her eyes at the warm liquid pressed upon her. What did she need one of these for? Well... she took it anyway, tucking it up under an arm for the time being. "You don't need to worry about me freezing anyway."
Glancing at him again, she studied him out of the corner of her eye. "Aren't you one of those ninjas? Shouldn't you be up there," she asked, nodding her head towards the summit. "Or no partner?"
thanks ;3;
"It's kinda my fault he was hurt, so I'm just trying to keep that from happening again," Obito admitted. Yeah, he knew Yuri was kind of a weird guy, but he hadn't thought he had strange conversations. Or maybe Obito just saw their relationship differently.
"Just keep it anyway." It looked like she was at least going to hold the thermos, though she really ought to drink it. But that was her business. Obito wasn't going to force her.
Obito sighed as he glanced up towards the top of the mountain. Gai and Kakashi were up there. Probably Neji and Hanabi, too. And all the others from his village. He glanced to the side at the mention of partners. "... Yeah, I don't have one."
no subject
"I will," she confirmed. She would perhaps make use of it when she was a little closer and taking a bit of a break from the howling wind.
Raising an eyebrow at his reply, she snorted and crossed her arms over her chest, keeping the thermos close to her body still. "A charming young man like you? How could you not have a partner? Or do you have your eye on someone and they aren't responding to your attempts to get them to agree?"
no subject
But he let it go. There was no use dwelling on the past. Dying had taught him that before making it here.
He snorted. Yeah, right, charming. "I don't trust anyone enough to resonate well. And the ones I trust... are either other Meisters or already partnered."
no subject
She regarded him soberly for a long moment, looking passed the red hair that blew in front of her face. So, there were others out there in a similar position as herself. It was kind of funny that it was a kid to make her realize that.
"Yet you follow at Yuri's heels now," she remarked, yet it wasn't unkind this time. "He trusts even less, I assure you. As do I. You aren't alone in that, so don't lose heart."
no subject
He grimaced at her wording, even though her tone wasn't bad. "I'm not a puppy or anything..." But he was listening to her words. He wasn't too surprised that Yuri wasn't a person to trust others. Why should anyone trust anyone, really?
He blinked at her. That was... probably the most up-lifting thing he's ever heard from her before. "Yeah. It's hard to remember that."
no subject
"No... I suppose you aren't. But like a loyal pup, you'd throw yourself in front of him to help him avoid injury, wouldn't you?" She wondered if he was trying to slowly get in close enough to Yuri to make a partnership work. Ah, that was an interesting thought. Though, wasn't he a meister too?
She shrugged a little at his reply. "Forgetting is... a frightful thing. Almost as bad as being alone," she said softly, just above the howl of the wind.
no subject
"Hmm," Obito hummed thoughtfully. Maybe she was onto something. It was kinda hard to tell. Kerrigan seemed to like to pick at him enough that she could just be bullshitting him, for all he knew.
"Yeah, being alone sucks," he said at length with the brash honesty of a child. Then he shrugged. "But I guess that's why there are people like Gai out there. Even if you want to be alone, you'll always have someone annoyingly trying to get in your face about things." Not that he was one to talk, given his recent attachment to Yuri.
no subject
She shrugged again, having gotten used to being alone. There were plenty of times when she preferred it honestly, but missions like these made her crave the action of the battlefield. Nothing could be done about it though, not when she didn't have a partner.
"Some of us aren't so lucky," she replied but said nothing more to give herself away on the matter. She told herself it was better to be alone anyway. There were less complications. "You should go back inside before you freeze."
no subject
He shifted in his boot a little. He hadn't thought about that, how others might not even have a Gai to keep around. Now that he thought about it, she and Gai had not had the best conversation that day in the clinic...
"Hmm..." He nodded, knowing he should be going. It was cold out here, and his nose was numb. Still... "Well, maybe it's a good think you don't have Gai around. At least you get to avoid being kicked in the face."
no subject
She was staring up at the mountain again, pushing back some hair that was plastered to her face. "I would break anyone's toes, feet and knees and dislocate their hip before they could land such a hit on me," she said simply. She was serious; she already had done such things in the past. "Some of us are better off with loud-mouths like that to badger everyone else," she added before easing away to return to her patrol. "Get inside before your nose falls off."
no subject
Would she managed to do as she said she would? Or would the taijutsu master of Konoha throw her for a loop? Either outcome would be enjoyable, in Obito's slightly sadistic opinion. Of course he'd feel bad for the one who was hurt, but that's what the clinic was for, right?
"Fine, fine," he sighed, sounding put-out but obviously glad for an excuse to run back inside. Before he left, though, he gave her another glare.
"Make sure to drink that!" He pointed to the thermos, then started making tracks back to the tent.
