[OPEN] Mission 156

Characters: Open to participants who signed up here.
Location: Lake Tahoe, CA
Rating: Various.
Time: March 27th, late morning.
Description: The second of the three Madness emitters outside Death City is the target for this mission. Bundle up, everyone -- it's gonna be a cold one.

The mission begins late in the morning, to allow the mission-goers as much sunlight as possible in the warmest part of the day. Not that it'll help much… Temperatures are well below freezing already -- unnatural even for early Spring in the mountains -- and a howling snowstorm threatens to blot out the sun, beginning up the mountain where the slope just begins to rise sharply.

The slopes themselves are fairly barren: a windswept-looking tree here, a cabin that may have once belonged to the snow patrol there, maybe a Madness-crazed bear or mountain lion. Those braving the storm are lucky enough to see five feet in front of their face in these conditions!

Those brave few who manage to make it to the top (enduring falling temperatures and defeating the corrupted fauna and hulking kishin yeti along the way) may come across their goal at the very summit of the half-mile-high mountain: the Madness emitter itself, in the eye of the storm… And one last obstacle: the Witch guarding it.

"We were not gone long. If we were missed by anybody, they would likely believe us to be in a tent they have not checked or they were too busy to notice."

He was concerned about the look on her face. It obviously still disturbed her about what she did put there. It was, admittedly, surprising and he did experience sadness on her behalf for having to be given an ability that reminded her of death. There was not much to be said for it without sounding like a broken record. Perhaps reassurances were still in order though.

"...I appreciate that you were willing to come along. Though we did not come across a patient, we did...accomplish something."

Though if they were attacked....

"...I will not regret having worked with you."

"Right..."

That made sense. There were plenty of tents to disappear into and patients who needed attention. Her mind was still out in the field almost, but it was coming back. She had to focus on working here now.

"Huh?" She blinked, but then smiled. "You're welcome. But, I couldn't let you go alone. Thank you for taking me... I have a few things to think about."

"...As do I. I doubt it needs to be said, but let us just get back to work with the patients here."

Maybe the battlefield was not where they needed to go. He had to admit though that somewhere inside he had wanted to make it out there to find somebody that probably needed their help. This too was something he needed to consider. Until then, he was going to make sure everybody here was able to be nursed back to health.

He wondered if Rosalia would be able to focus without thinking too deeply on what she was able to do. After an awkward moment, he turned to go to one of the tents he had been at previously with a few of the patients that needed extra care.

"Okay."

Rosalia was able to smile and follow, but it was troubling. The virus was still alive in a way. Stein said it shouldn't infect people, though, maybe he meant when she was Human. She never saw what happened at Cumberland, but she had followed Maria and the others when the virus began to appear. What it could do was terrifying; if it got loose, Witches wouldn't be Shibusen's only problem.

Shaking her head, she pushed the thoughts back and focused ahead. It wasn't entirely gone, but she had to concentrate in order to help the other Guests now.
