[OPEN] Mission 156
Characters: Open to participants who signed up here.
Location: Lake Tahoe, CA
Rating: Various.
Time: March 27th, late morning.
Description: The second of the three Madness emitters outside Death City is the target for this mission. Bundle up, everyone -- it's gonna be a cold one.
The mission begins late in the morning, to allow the mission-goers as much sunlight as possible in the warmest part of the day. Not that it'll help much… Temperatures are well below freezing already -- unnatural even for early Spring in the mountains -- and a howling snowstorm threatens to blot out the sun, beginning up the mountain where the slope just begins to rise sharply.
The slopes themselves are fairly barren: a windswept-looking tree here, a cabin that may have once belonged to the snow patrol there, maybe a Madness-crazed bear or mountain lion. Those braving the storm are lucky enough to see five feet in front of their face in these conditions!
Those brave few who manage to make it to the top (enduring falling temperatures and defeating the corrupted fauna and hulking kishin yeti along the way) may come across their goal at the very summit of the half-mile-high mountain: the Madness emitter itself, in the eye of the storm… And one last obstacle: the Witch guarding it.

"The water in a bath gets cold quickly. If only that city had an onsen." Akiha missed home. She almost said as much when Sion asked her that question. She'd thought of it when Sion touched her cheeks, but the alchemist was just faster at asking.
"I would. I would like very much to be w-warmer." Her hands slid down Sion's arms to her shoulders, trying to coax her partner forward. "If you would come and h-hold me, your body heat will help."
no subject
But she nodded in assent. Rather than just wrap herself around Akiha, Sion was always pulling for something more efficient, even in embarrassment. Undoing the buttons on her coat, she opened it up and invited Akiha in. It would be much warmer this way since it already had her trapped bodyheat. Just don't take too long or it'll all float away.
no subject
Quickly, she pushed herself off of the rock face and slipped her arms inside the coat to wrap about Sion, under her arms with her palms flat on the alchemist's back, as she stepped into the warmth to press her front to her partner's. If she hadn't been so cold, her face might have flushed, too. In fact, she didn't even notice the color on Sion's face as anything out of the ordinary given the cold.
"Sorry."
Akiha mumbled that as she rest her head on Sion's shoulder, trying not to let her eyes close, knowing that she was most likely making her partner very cold right then. Hopefully, she'd stop being an Akihacicle soon enough and her own body heat would make up for what she was stealing from Sion.
no subject
But with cold hands on her back, she stiffened up quite a bit. There was nothing more surprising than that, even if she was expecting it and had braced herself. It didn't stop her from putting her arms around Akiha and attempting to envelope her with her coat. It was an intimate position and she was fully aware of that.
Hopefully it wouldn't be entirely obvious that she was completely embarrassed.
no subject
Stop that
Her fingers curled in a little then loosened against Sion's back before repeating. She was trying to get her to relax... and warm her hands up more.
Why are you embarrassed? We're partners and this was your suggestion.
no subject
I have never done anything of this sort.
Hopefully that was a good enough answer because she didn't have a clue on how to voice anything else.

Akiha wasn't exactly the most affectionate of girls with her icy demeanor. The only time she was ever really this close to another was when she was with Kohaku, seeing to her... condition.
...she shouldn't have thought about that. Because it also made her think about--
I hate this place. That was almost a mental whine. It's making me...
no subject
Sion was curious to hear the end of that statement. It was the innate want to know more about Akiha as a friend, though she would never admit as such. Instead, she would hide that behind an excuse of needed to know everything about her partner, a handy excuse if any.
Feel helpless?
no subject
Oh, there was some anger in those words. Akiha wasn't helpless and she didn't feel helpless. Yes, she was cold, hurt and feeling a bit weak, but she was not helpless. It upset her that Sion would even suggest such a thing.
It's making me... There was a bit of a mental squirm there because she knew Sion wouldn't let it go. She shouldn't have said anything, but the cold had gotten to her.
...hungry.
no subject
Sion took that completely the wrong way and was already pondering up what kind of creatures might exist out here to kill and eat. Starting a fire wouldn't be a problem if given enough time. Hunting said creature, however, might be a massive problem since neither of them had satisfactory weapons for hunting.
That would be an issue since there is nothing to eat.
no subject
Still, she gave an internal sigh of relief that Sion completely missed Akiha's meaning; she'd never been sure if Sion was aware of some of her... habits. She didn't like feeling the craving, but she was so cold and the fastest way for her to warm up was to drink blood. She'd been hoping that craving would go away when BREW sealed off her demon blood, but it seemed the damn device had a cruel sense of humor.
Forget I said anything.

It must be their resonance. Akiha had heard it was common for partners to reside together, encouraged by Shibusen, but she'd paid it no mind. After all, her dorm room was tiny and she couldn't see a larger apartment being comparably larger with Sion living there, too.
And then she'd have less of a say about whether there was going to be a lab in her room or not.
She half pressed her face into the crook of Sion's neck, eyes closing again. We should get moving again soon.
no subject
Akiha wasn't warm enough when put in accordance to Sion's standards. A few more minutes, that was all. Just a few more, or so Sion reasoned to herself. Part of her mind filed and logged away why she wanted that couple more minutes, and would dedicate some time thinking on that later. Mostly to find some excuse or reason to her aberrant behavior. For now, it was the cold. It was most certainly the cold.
no subject
I don't want to put you in danger by taking too much of your boy heat.
no subject
Body heat is perfectly self sustaining, even in their current situation. Come on now, Akiha, not everything is going to have the same definitions you are used to.
Stay right here as long as you need.
no subject
She glowered a little, not liking having that pointed out to her. She'd been referring to getting Sion's clothing wet as her own were wet.
And... thank you.
Akiha then gave Sion a small squeeze before relaxing again. She's not sure what she would've done if she'd been with someone other than Sion.
no subject
The least she could do is say 'you're welcome' but instead, Sion stood there. With no appropriate decision, she ended up doing absolutely nothing.
no subject
She was getting warm enough to move on, especially since her leg was throbbing now. She hoped she wasn't going to need stitches. Akiha had never been injured to the point of scarring. As much as she disliked her demon heritage, it certainly made some things convenient. The leg was stiff, her ankle bothering her. They needed to get moving before the pain got too bad or the joint locked up.
It's time to go.
no subject
Apparently, she could even stutter through their connection. One brought on but something that wasn't the cold.
Sion let go of Akiha so they could continue on. Her body didn't creak from the cold like she thought it would, probably because of the outcropped blocking the wind. She did seem a little...less chilly. Not wanting to count her blessings, she did step back out into the wind, ready to continue their little adventure.
no subject
Her thoughts on the matter were interrupted as she started back onto the path, groaning audibly as she limped. She needed to walk it off. At least she wasn't an Akihacicle anymore.
"Here," she said, holding her hand out. "Let me carry you. I'm not sure how fast I'll be able to get to you if we come across another enemy."
no subject
"Please use me as a walking stick, at least."
Such a subservient position but, right now, Akiha needed it. So Sion wouldn't complain. She transformed and landed herself into Akiha's hand. Now that she had some free time in this form, she hoped that things wouldn't be nearly as cold while in it.
no subject
She also wasn't in a talkative mood, so she kept her thoughts mostly to herself. Every once in a while she longed for the warmth she'd had not too long ago.
