[OPEN] Mission 156

Characters: Open to participants who signed up here.
Location: Lake Tahoe, CA
Rating: Various.
Time: March 27th, late morning.
Description: The second of the three Madness emitters outside Death City is the target for this mission. Bundle up, everyone -- it's gonna be a cold one.

The mission begins late in the morning, to allow the mission-goers as much sunlight as possible in the warmest part of the day. Not that it'll help much… Temperatures are well below freezing already -- unnatural even for early Spring in the mountains -- and a howling snowstorm threatens to blot out the sun, beginning up the mountain where the slope just begins to rise sharply.

The slopes themselves are fairly barren: a windswept-looking tree here, a cabin that may have once belonged to the snow patrol there, maybe a Madness-crazed bear or mountain lion. Those braving the storm are lucky enough to see five feet in front of their face in these conditions!

Those brave few who manage to make it to the top (enduring falling temperatures and defeating the corrupted fauna and hulking kishin yeti along the way) may come across their goal at the very summit of the half-mile-high mountain: the Madness emitter itself, in the eye of the storm… And one last obstacle: the Witch guarding it.

splinterstrider: (Hey what's over here.)

Dirk moved into the tent pretty easily, only stopping to remove his sword from the snow first.

"Stitches?" Dirk took another look at the cut - he hadn't really gotten a great look at it out in the storm, he quickly realized. "Yeah, that's a pretty accurate assessment." For the moment though, he pressed his other hand to the cut, applying pressure. "So, you gonna do it or should I?"

"Don't touch...!" She almost smacked his hand. Bad Dirk! Contaminating your wounds like that. Rosalia gave him a gauze pad to use instead before checking for doctors again.

"... No, I can do it." She would just... do her best. Her stitches hadn't been entirely straight practicing on gloves, but maybe she could get them straighter on her first patient alone.
splinterstrider: That was a lie. (This is exciting.)

"Alright," Dirk said, removing his hand and the gauze from the wound. For what it was worth, he didn't seem to have much trouble keeping his arm steady. While keeping it stretched out, he got another look at the cut and couldn't help but let out a derisive snort. He seemed annoyed by the wound more than anything, to be honest. From the grimace on his face, there was definitely a bit of pain too, though.

"Man, I bet I'm the first partnerless jackass to come back here who had a mountain lion of all things get the drop on him, huh?"

"I... don't think you're the first. There are lots of people without partners today." She brought the necessary equipment over. "And the animals here have been attacking everyone. I don't think anyone has been cut this deeply though..."

Rosalia applied the spray-on anesthetic to his arm, making sure to cover his claw marks. While waiting for it to go into affect, she threaded the needle and cleaned his arm up somewhat.
splinterstrider: (What the hell is that?)

"Yeah." He kept his arm steady as she went about her business, getting ready to stitch it up. "It was pretty much the dumbest thing. The lion gets the drop on me, so I try to jump behind it, but I forget for a sec that I'm not as fast I used to be because of BREW and. Boom." He pointed. "Mufasa sees me coming about as quickly as a summer breeze and manages to contain its laughter at this jackass trying to get the jump on him long enough to just try and rip my arm off." It was hard to tell if he was more irritated with himself, the lion or BREW at the moment.

"So what about you? You stuck without a partner too?"
bloodinbloom: (Big brother!; Big Sis!)

That should be long enough for his arm to numb. Gloves on, Rosalia proceeded to carefully piercing the needle into skin and out, connecting with the other side of the open wound to close it. Carefully... closer together... looking good.

"Sort of. I came on this mission volunteering as a medical assistant." She couldn't look up at Dirk (even if she did, he was wearing those odd pointy shades). Her eyes focused intently on the scratch as she continued down the first one. "I... did go out with one of the doctors for a few minutes, but we couldn't really fight. My Weapon form isn't very useful."
