[OPEN] Mission 156

Location: Lake Tahoe, CA
Rating: Various.
Time: March 27th, late morning.
Description: The second of the three Madness emitters outside Death City is the target for this mission. Bundle up, everyone -- it's gonna be a cold one.

The mission begins late in the morning, to allow the mission-goers as much sunlight as possible in the warmest part of the day. Not that it'll help much… Temperatures are well below freezing already -- unnatural even for early Spring in the mountains -- and a howling snowstorm threatens to blot out the sun, beginning up the mountain where the slope just begins to rise sharply.

The slopes themselves are fairly barren: a windswept-looking tree here, a cabin that may have once belonged to the snow patrol there, maybe a Madness-crazed bear or mountain lion. Those braving the storm are lucky enough to see five feet in front of their face in these conditions!

Those brave few who manage to make it to the top (enduring falling temperatures and defeating the corrupted fauna and hulking kishin yeti along the way) may come across their goal at the very summit of the half-mile-high mountain: the Madness emitter itself, in the eye of the storm… And one last obstacle: the Witch guarding it.

"Rosalia. And I'm doing well thank you."

She smiled back to Yuri. It was a mission, but there were always these brief lapse in patients that they could interact. Oh, again with the sleeves. She rolled them up.

"Miss. Rosalia," he murmured in reply. There was no chance in her getting him to call her anything different either. Despite everything, he was always polite and respectful to a fault when speaking with others.

Stepping away from the patient, he kept an eye out for any future ones even as he asked, "Is this your first time out on a mission?"

Wow, that was weird. Rosalia wasn't about to correct him, but being called 'Miss' anything just didn't seem right. It was a new level of manners that she didn't know.

"Mhm. I arrived a few days ago."

So, she was part of the newest group of people pulled to this world? He didn't miss the fact that she had already offered up her services to the war effort, which was something he mentally took note of.

"This must be rather overwhelming for you then," Yuri said with a kind smile curving on his lips. "Unless, of course, you arrived from a world in a situation more dire than this one."

"It's a little, but I read up on wars." They were frightening and people died, but if people could be saved, she wanted to help them.

Rosalia shook her head. "No. Well, sorta. It wasn't in anything like this, but it did get out of a recent emergency."

"Reading up on wars is one thing, but it is another to experience it," Yuri murmured. Even he hadn't experienced the full scope of this, or any, war. He was one to always stick to the shadows and observe from there rather than directly involve himself.

"Oh? Well I would count it fortunate that your world managed to recover from such an incident before your arrival," the Judge said in return. "It must at least ease some of the burden being here knowing that.

"I know." She's only seventeen. War wouldn't be on the top of her experience list.

"Mhm. I'm really glad, but now, there's people here that need help." There wasn't much else for her to do back home anyway.

Moving along the stalls, Yuri's attention momentarily shifted to the few patients that were resting in the cots. They hadn't been injured too severely, and most just seemed to be affected by Madness exposure, which was fortunate.

"Indeed there are," he answered to begin with before coming to stop beside one cot to check on the patient's recovery. "Have you had any medical experience before arriving to this world?"

Rosalia followed along, eyes darting to the Madness patients as they passed. Her attention quickly rose to Yuri when he began to speak to her again, finding herself halting besides thee same patient.

"Yes." The question was pretty straight forward. How much about that did he want to know?

The simple answer had his attention drifting back over to the young woman beside him. Despite a slender brow rising up, the Judge asked nothing further as he simply said instead, "Then your skills will undoubtedly be appreciated here."

What she decided to offer him was her decision. The Judge wasn't one to manipulate the conversation or draw out unwilling information. No, he much preferred to simply allow the information to be willingly given to him instead when it came to the individual in question.

"I'll make sure to do my best."

She didn't note the raised brow he cast her way. There was nothing else she really had to say on the matter. Instead, she was staring at their patient. "How are they doing?"

He allowed the topic to drift away between them. If he felt the need, he'd do a little research on her at a later date, but for now they did have work to do. So instead he focused his attention on the patients they were tending.

"Most will recover within a few hours," Yuri said at first before he continued. "The large majority of those brought in have been affected by Madness. Although there have been a small handful of individuals that have arrived with various degrees of injuries."

His best resource would probably be Professor Stein and Spirit. Still, there was nothing Rosalia would hide anyway.

"Right..." The injuries they treat while trying to control the Madness until their minds settled again.

"Have you ever experienced individuals affected by the Madness Wavelength?" Yuri asked after the next moment.

"I've... seen them, but I haven't experienced them." What does he mean by that?

A slender brow rose up when she had mentioned seeing them. He didn't dismiss that claim, but did wonder if she'd witnessed it in one of the other tents, which was quite likely, but then the fact that she hadn't experienced it threw him into a loop.

"Then you've seen how unpredictable they can be when affected by it."

[bloodinbloom]

"... Yes, I have. It's terrible."

And these Witches wanted to spread it around the world. How could they want to do such a thing? She sighed slightly.

Nodding his head, the Judge turned his attention over to the few patients resting on the cots. Some were there to recover from injuries, while others from the Madness.

"Then you'll know to use caution when treating them."

[bloodinbloom]

"Mhm. Do you have another patient?"

Was that why he was asking about it? She was here to lend a hand.

[hand_of_judgement]

"No, and while I hope that there will be no further patients, I believe that would be only wishful thinking on my part," Yuri murmured in return. They were on the battlefield, after all.

[bloodinbloom]

"Yeah..."

She trailed, thinking, but then looked up again. "Uhm, what if people are stuck out in the storm?"

[hand_of_judgement]

"Then we can hope that they haven't drifted off by themselves to find themselves in such a position," Yuri answered before clarifying. "There is reason to why Shibusen requested the fighters to both remain in particular locations and within the vicinity of those they fight alongside with. Once the battle is won, then the situation will become clearer to if there are any lost or stranded individuals."

"Okay..."

Obviously, she's worried and Rosalia isn't the best at hiding that fact. She's not going to make any more comments on the matter though.
