[OPEN] Mission 156

Characters: Open to participants who signed up here.
Location: Lake Tahoe, CA
Rating: Various.
Time: March 27th, late morning.
Description: The second of the three Madness emitters outside Death City is the target for this mission. Bundle up, everyone -- it's gonna be a cold one.

The mission begins late in the morning, to allow the mission-goers as much sunlight as possible in the warmest part of the day. Not that it'll help much… Temperatures are well below freezing already -- unnatural even for early Spring in the mountains -- and a howling snowstorm threatens to blot out the sun, beginning up the mountain where the slope just begins to rise sharply.

The slopes themselves are fairly barren: a windswept-looking tree here, a cabin that may have once belonged to the snow patrol there, maybe a Madness-crazed bear or mountain lion. Those braving the storm are lucky enough to see five feet in front of their face in these conditions!

Those brave few who manage to make it to the top (enduring falling temperatures and defeating the corrupted fauna and hulking kishin yeti along the way) may come across their goal at the very summit of the half-mile-high mountain: the Madness emitter itself, in the eye of the storm… And one last obstacle: the Witch guarding it.

Sion mentally squirmed a bit, not wanting to get all snowy herself. Especially laying in the snow at the moment. Who knew what would happen if a little bit of snow snuck up her dress. While she was appropriately clothed, she still felt her dress was woefully small.

Reigning in her fears, she turned back into her normal shape and quickly hopped to her feet. Just in case....

Having snow melt and get everything wet would be too much for the already thin skinned desert girl. And doing what Akiha suggested, she did kick the creature so she could get it to the form she wanted to be in. There you go, Akiha, it's safe to get up.

Liz's reflection appeared in the side facing Kid. "A little cold but okay. I'll bet it's way worse for you right now."

Of course, with his death god body, Kid was very likely just fine. Or at least not as bothered.

With that little flash thing, the monster's form coalesced into the crimson smoking soul that kishin eggs turn into. Akiha stared at it as it floated above her, hand massaging her leg, checking to see if there was any damage she needed to worry about.

Like that nice cut up her shin from some ice. That was bleeding. Sion so did not need to see that or even know about it. So, while she couldn't shield Sion from the pain Akiha was feeling, she at least dampened it. And while Sion was busy eating that thing, Akiha jerked her legging back down to cover it and tied the end of it tight about her leg. She was pretty sure with the cold it would clot fast enough, not worrying about losing too much blood.

Putting weight on it, she discovered while standing, was going to be another matter. To her credit, she did not give any vocal indication of pain; her steps were slower and she limped a bit. Standing with her weight off that leg, she fished her knit gloves back out to don and brush whatever snow she could off of her.

"I think we still have another half-mile of this path to search." Oh, she wanted to go back to the medic camp to sit by a fire, but she refused to give up. They would complete their mission through this frozen hell. "If you want to transform back for the climate resistance, I'll carry you."

"I know..." Bakura said softly. "Just not right now... Yuugi-kun..." he hesitated a moment. "Yuugi-kun was the first friend who ever stayed... The first one who ever realized..." he trailed off, looking down at the snow at his feet. "He's the reason that things changed. That we can even be standing here, talking as if it's perfectly normal to be... I don't want to say the wrong thing."

Sion quickly snatched the soul and turned her back to Akiha. Much like Akiha didn't want her to see the blood, Sion had no urge to show off to Akiha how she did this. Mostly due to the fact that it felt a little personal to her, not to guard Akiha from any unwanted influences.

With her back turned, she essentially shoved the thing down her throat. Sion couldn't really choke on it, so she wasn't particularly worried about that. She just wanted to get the process over as quickly as possible. When she was done, she turned to face Akiha again, who had already gotten up.

"You are injured so there is no point in having me do less work. Allow me to at least support you a little."

Whereupon she stepped up beside Akiha and offered her shoulder so she could rest her weight there. Easier traveling for the future, Sion was certain of.

Oh fayth. Auron saw the girl trying to fight some wild dogs and manage to trip and land in snow. A newbie if there ever was one. He took long running strides and slapped one in mid-air before it could think about making the girl a snack.

Now the coyotes had six feet of skilled swordsman and nearly six feet of steel to contend with. "You all right?" Auron asked with his slightly raspy voice.

Akiha sighed and chose not to argue. At least not then. "It probably got twisted a bit underneath that kishin egg. I'll walk it off soon enough."

Still, she put more weight on Sion's shoulder than she intended to for the first minute or so of climbing the path. By then, the coldness seeping into her from her wet clothing and the gusts of wind had numbed her to the pain and her limp lessened.

"...I'll be okay if we come across another opponent. I will make use of my Meister ability then. The added energy will help," Akiha said, shivering as another gust of chilly wind hit them.

That sort of looked like a "yes" to Zero. "Nice to meet you. I'm Zero. A Weapon. I don't have a partner so I'm trying to clear away some debris and monsters."

"It is in my professional opinion that you will not be okay in the meantime."

It wasn't difficult to spot the fact that she had gotten wet from falling in the snow and having that snow melt on her. And that was even assuming that Akiha would take energy in the near future. If she couldn't, there would be a real problem coming back down.

"...you need to warm your body first."

Alucard walked beside him, his cloak whipping behind him in the wind. He naturally dressed in several layers of clothing so he wasn't too bothered. He led the way up the steep trail.

Kid had given him good advice about how to fight madness. The only hard thing would be to put it into practice. "Raidou!" Alucard called back. "I can't scent anything in this cold. We will have to be wary and on our guard."

That elicited a wry chuckle from Akiha. "And what is your personal opinion?"

The hand that wasn't bracing herself on Sion's shoulder wrapped about herself and she hunched her shoulders up. "I'll be alright. Look. There's an overhang of the rock face up ahead that looks to be shielded from the wind." Her teeth chattered. "We can stop there to rest. I'll warm up then."

His head whipped around and he gave him a deadly glare. "That, dear yadounishi, is pure bullshit!" He gave him a disgusted look before clambering back onto the drivers seat of their vehicle.

"Unless he somehow managed to cross the worlds and invisibly crawled into your head as you made the decision to trust me." The grumble was low and sounding rather insulted.

"Eh?" Bakura blinked. "That-- You even said yourself it was because he defeated you that you realized you were doing things wrong!" he protested as he followed.
feelsgoodinyou: (Whaaaat?!)

[personal profile] feelsgoodinyou 2012-10-03 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
He rolled his eyes, blocking the direction this conversation was going to take. As if he'd ever be grateful for being defeated! "That's a part of myself that I'd have lost here anyway. Are you coming or what?!"
shiromadoushi: (Sigh)

[personal profile] shiromadoushi 2012-10-03 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Bakura sighed softly, shoulders slumping. Why did he get the feeling that nothing he ever said was right? Even more reason to want to be careful when talking to Yuugi...

"Fine..."

She would headbutt those damn things if she had to, Nanami was not going to be eaten without a fight, hell, if she took a bite out of a few, she could always acid wash her mouth later, right?

There was a moment of panic as one jumped at her but then a hero appeared, a really tall hero. He easily knocked the attacking beast aside with one swing of his arm. Nanami was awe struck as she looked up at the man's rugged features. "Y..yeah." was all she managed to murmur while still lodged in the snow bank.

Every time he assumed he'd seen every kind of kishin egg there was, that hulking yeti emerged from the snow and threatened to put the blood of even Kanji on ice. The matted, bloody fur - kishin eggs did not bleed, so there was no doubt that none of it was its - covering its body and those twisted teeth didn't make it much of a pretty sight.

But something seemed odd about its body language. Even standing just yards from it, it seemed unable to really locate them. He took this opportunity to strengthen his soul resonance, and move closer. As long as the wind didn't change too much, he could strike this thing down quickly before it had a chance to cause any damage.

For once, Kanji smartened up, choosing not to bellow as he charged through the snow. Feeling the pain in his leg nearly subside helped him gain a little speed as he wondered how Ramza's weapon form was supposed to be used - does he use the flag end, or the....?

Fuck it. He wasn't getting this admittedly handsome flag sullied, so Ramza was turned upside-down. The non-business end of the polearm was brandished, and he struck the beast's side before he moved behind it.

He didn't reply as he fired the engine of the snowmobile's motor on once again. This time their start was slower as he led them in a big turn back in the direction they had come from, opting to go first down and closer back to the rest of Shibusen's forces were before directing them mountain upwards again.

His face was set in a scowl, eyes gleaming with unspoken dissatisfaction as he reflected on this talk and what it would mean for his ability to make his next moves. While he had managed to move his host somewhat in the direction he wanted him at, the push hadn't been half as effective as he would have liked it to be and trying it again or applying more force were out of question - showing too much care would make his true motives obvious. Should the wimp think that he was having a strange case of melodramatic and misdirected jealousy, that would at least increase the effectiveness of the impact of the messenger-bomb when it hit.

Thinking like that, he let his instincts decide where they were going, increasing their speed slowly back to max again as they did. The plan for the rest of this 'mission' was boring: find some shit and kill it, then make up a reason to keep the souls for himself.

"My personal opinion would be a little more crass but the same. You would prefer to hear my professional opinion."

It would most likely be very insulting to Akiha, which was why she reserved it. Mostly involving pride trumping intelligence, which was the downfall of nearly every great person in history.

But Sion guided her over to the overhang to get out of the wind, which was the biggest part of the coldness coming off this mountain. Getting out of it was the intelligent thing to do.

Bakura clung tightly, shoulders hunched in. There was no panic this segment of the ride, the wind being an almost welcome distraction. Really, if it were anyone other than the Ring's Voice he were clinging to...

He paused, blinking. "Aaa!" he exclaimed, eyes widening as he spotted a form in the distance that was all too large to be another person. "Over there!"

Whether Kotetsu swatted him or not, Barnaby was just too distracted to care much for it. That pull was just annoying and far more distracting than it needed to be. But the faster and more efficient they managed to make it up, the more they could assist in destroying that emitter and the faster they could return to their apartment. These missions were just tiring.

He gripped Kotetsu's hand a bit tighter, picking up his pace a little. He was a little testy, but he was going to try and keep from saying too much, to avoid from making Kotetsu mad, so they could focus on the mission instead of any possible problems and that snow, snow, and more snow. He wasn't seeing any sort of lift, unfortunately. Not much of anything besides all this snow. This truly was mad. It wasn't just the madness, but the fact that they were crazy enough to head out in this snow... Absolutely ridiculous.

Sion may find that sometimes the personal opinion holds more weight with Akiha than the professional opinion, especially coming from her partner.

But the removal of the wind was near divine and Akiha made her way over to the rock face and leaned back against it. She couldn't feel the cold of it through her wet clothes, icing up on the outside, but she liked the support. Clapping her hands together a few times to shock the blood flow back into them, she then rubbed at her cheeks.

"When we get back to Death City, I'm going to drain all of Casualty's hot water supply during my shower." She closed her eyes, resting a moment, as she continued. "I suggest being quicker than I, if you wish a hot sh-sh-shower."

"I'm seeing it." Without further notice he changed their direction once more, aiming for what turned out to be be a kishin egg that looked like a giant heap of snow with glowing red eyes from afar. The closer they got, the more of its details could be seen, though, and it quickly revealed itself to be a humanoid kishin egg with a ape-like, leathery black face, a crown of white antlers and more teeth than fit into its maw. Most of its body was covered in thick, shaggy fur and its finger ended in claws that were not unlike that of bears, if bears had fingernails the size of Freddy Krueger's.

Aiming right for it, Bakura revved the motor to max as he reached for one of the weapons that he had brought along - a long, curved scimitar that would do nice things with the beasts legs.

"What are you doing?!" Bakura exclaimed as it seemed the Voice was aiming right for the monster at high speed. Should he transform? What was the Voice planning?!
