Description: It's high time everyone understood what Madness is and how to better defend themselves against it.

Although he would have liked to sit on Stein’s lecture, Kid had been busy making the final preparations for his own segment. It would actually be the first time he ever gave a lecture of any kind, but he was not nervous about it. Everything was set and this was one important matter that had to be done.

Copies of the information he was about to go over were in a neat little stack dead center on the front desk (which had also been moved slightly so that it was more centered to the room). As people came in, he told them to pick up a copy before taking a seat. Although he could spend a whole week talking about Madness, its history, and everything involved with it, he basically only had about an hour or two. It was not nearly enough, but it was a start—and that was what this session was: getting the basic understanding of Madness down.

So once Stein’s class was over and those who wished to attend had taken their seats, he began.

“You should all have a basic outline of the information that will be covered as well as supplementary material that will benefit you for both understanding what Madness is and how to resist it. There’s much that could be talked about, but I’ll try to keep this brief. The point of tonight is to give everyone a better understanding of what it is you’re facing and to clear up any misunderstandings that are floating around.”

[hopefully, but he will find out soon enough. as the lecture finished and everyone had their own questions asked and answered, Kid waited for Alucard by the front desk.]

So I had an extra question with regard to Madness.

*He gathered up his courage and spoke.* If it is something you actually believe about yourself that the Madness can grab a hold of, how can one ever hope to fight it?

[perfectorder]

[he thinks he has an answer, but—]

Could you clarify a bit?

*Alucard does not normally say such things to anyone but this is one of the leaders of the city. Perhaps he could help?* I shouldn't exist because of my bloodline and here I am. It is very much at conflict with my religion so I have always thought of being cursed.

The last time I was subjected to heavy madness...I almost jumped from atop a building.

[...yep that was definitely new, at least for him. and as such, Kid is giving special attention and serious thought.]

May I ask why you should not exist and how it conflicts with your beliefs?

I realize it's a personal question and I understand if you do not feel comfortable elaborating.

I don't know if you have them here, but one of my parents was a vampire and the other was human. As opposed to being created by a vampire's bite, I was born with cursed blood. Such a thing usually cannot happen. Yet, here I am.

The religion that I believe in rejects such creatures as works of the devil and eternal damnation. At the same time, there is talk of loving all of your fellow man. So...I've never quite figured out where I fall on that scale. Can I overcome this or am I doomed from the start? I simply don't know.

That is probably what the Madness can sense in me.

I see...that is quite the complicated issue...[and because SE canon is just whacked up, let us assume that vampires or beings similar to such exist. well they got witches and werewolves, why not.]

I have no simple answer for that, but what I suspect may still hold true here. Rather than trying to fully resolve that question, I think in your case, it is more important that you're not running from the question but acknowledge it as part of you and face. That is the key point in any type of fear that an individual holds. The Madness is going to try and essentially offer you a type of escape—to give a false sense of confidence or answer to how to overcome that fear. That is the danger and can be prevented if you recognize that the Madness cannot help you with that and reject it.

[small pause.]

I had not thought of such a thing. To just embrace the questions that I face but not the escape from them that Madness would have me do.

[perfectorder]

It would be unrealistic to tell anyone that they have to resolve their problems. We all have our flaws and insecurities, and no one expects you to overcome them, especially in a short amount of time.

[personal experience? maybe...]

How you end up resolving your own personal issues is up to you, but for when it comes to Madness, all you need to know is that you must resist whatever temptations it may have for you to run away from it.
