[ open ] madness 101

Characters: Death the Kid and anyone attending
Location: An open Shibusen classroom
Rating: ...G? Maybe PG depending? I'm never good with ratings—
Time: March 22nd, evening (after Stein's class)
Description: It's high time everyone understood what Madness is and how to better defend themselves against it.

Although he would have liked to sit on Stein’s lecture, Kid had been busy making the final preparations for his own segment. It would actually be the first time he ever gave a lecture of any kind, but he was not nervous about it. Everything was set and this was one important matter that had to be done.

Copies of the information he was about to go over were in a neat little stack dead center on the front desk (which had also been moved slightly so that it was more centered to the room). As people came in, he told them to pick up a copy before taking a seat. Although he could spend a whole week talking about Madness, its history, and everything involved with it, he basically only had about an hour or two. It was not nearly enough, but it was a start—and that was what this session was: getting the basic understanding of Madness down.

So once Stein’s class was over and those who wished to attend had taken their seats, he began.

“You should all have a basic outline of the information that will be covered as well as supplementary material that will benefit you for both understanding what Madness is and how to resist it. There’s much that could be talked about, but I’ll try to keep this brief. The point of tonight is to give everyone a better understanding of what it is you’re facing and to clear up any misunderstandings that are floating around.”

Courage? Sephiroth could have scoffed at that mere notion. It sounded foolish even to his own ears, and found that coming here had been nothing but a waste of his time as he'd thought. It sounded no better than those useless 'self-help' books that stores attempted to throw at their customers by using their pathetic hope for a better life.

He was no fool, and it was with a quiet grunt that the ex-General stepped away from his place at the back of the class in order to silently slip out of the class.

*Alucard raises his hand.*

So if the Madness prompts you toward...self-harm, then the same guidelines apply?

Sephiroth paused as he moved to slip out when Kid's voice drifted through the class. Glancing back over his shoulder, his cat-like eyes pinned the young Shinigami with their stare. Lips curving up into an amused smirk, the ex-General huffed lightly beneath his breath.

"That you need some useless vision of courage to overcome whatever fear you possess within," he murmured in reply. It was obvious by his expression that he thought that it was nonsense. Then again, most within this city didn't have to contend with the insanity that lurked beneath the surface.

Nanami sat once again in the third row, not too close to the front and not too far back in order to listen to the lecture. Courage huh. She wasn’t sure she had that at the moment, after all ten days ago she had told others that he was going to surpass everything she ever was, instead she been left with the bitter taste of defeat. Her brother was no longer her brother and everything that came with that identity was broken, there had been nothing else. She had been doing a good job of pretending everything was all right but truthfully she was homesick and lonely. Nanami’s mind was filled with self doubt as she gingerly ran her fingertips over the cell phone she had filched from her brother. She knew in her current state she was probably not cut out to face the madness wavelength. But maybe in time…

Nanami sat quietly listening to the Q&A segment of the lesson; her hands however, were occupied with the phone that didn’t ring in this place.

Dirk's hand slowly came up, tilting in a sort of haphazard way for a few seconds until he'd caught Kid's attention. He was sitting by himself, near the middle of the class, his feet up on the desk in front of him.

"This Asura guy was a Meister, right?" He asked. "How many Meisters or Weapons have been corrupted irrevocably by the Madness?"

There was a glance away when his answer questioned. He should have just left, or have been able to slip out quietly, but the ex-General couldn't bring himself to. Sephiroth would have thought that this fool of a child would have gotten the hint the last time they spoke.

"Why does it matter?" He asked in return, but whether he was asking about the actual question itself, or why Kid was actually talking to him, even he wasn't certain.

[Shibusen had nice tall ceilings and all, but the doorway into the classroom was just a little too small for a 16' tall alien robot. Barricade relegated himself to sitting outside and listening in, idly shredding one of the pamphlets he'd managed to snag off of someone else. He'd read it over and memorized it already, and he needed something to do that didn't involve snapping at any passing students. This whole thing was stupid, but even he knew information was power.

Barricade had skipped Stein's lesson entirely, partly because of the door issue, mostly because he didn't care. Learning about the Madness wavelength was something that affected him and his interests directly, so he put priority on that. Once Kid started going on about courage, though, Barricade fought the urge to just get up and leave. It was as bad as Demona's suggestion to think about what made him happy - he'd been angry and miserable and resentful for thousands of years and it had worked out fine for him. Why change now?

When the lecture appeared to be over and people were starting to leave, he looked in through the threshold towards Kid.]

Hey. Question.

Nanami jerked her head in the direction of Kid's voice, "I uh.." she cleared her throat and brushed some hair back over her shoulder stalling for a little time so she could come up with something, anything that might take his focus away from her uncertainty. "For those who might be... especially susceptible to the madness, if you were to expose them and they lost themselves, how do you bring them back? And will you be overseeing the exposures personally?"

And I laugh in your general direction xD

[personal profile] pure_lineage 2012-09-15 07:32 am (UTC)(link)
No courage? That mere suggestion had the mako in his eyes blazing brightly while his cat-like pupils thinned and disappeared within glow. "You dare to suggest that I have no courage?" Sephiroth asked, his voice low and far too calm in retrospect to his blazing eyes.

That was certainly a relief and Nanami's face showed it. The idea of possibly being exposed to more than a small dosage in the future was still a little unsettling. "Then people who are easily infected are assigned missions according to the levels of madness in certain areas? Is there a map available that shows the different levels of madness around the world?" Because she'd rather not wander into one unknowingly.

[Edgeworth is not here for DeathCard

He doesn't ask his question when Kid asks for more questions. Instead, he keeps quiet, ready to take down any additional information into his organizer. When people start leaving and the seminar was officially over, he quickly gathers up his things and packs them all away neatly into his satchel. After a glance at his work space to make sure he left nothing behind, he walks purposefully toward Kid, every inch the inquisitive model student.

Even if he was one of the older students. Like...way older.]

Nice of Kid to come out to speak with him, but any polite favors were lost on Barricade. He flicked the last shreds of the ruined pamphlet off of his talons, straightening up somewhat. Sitting out here hadn't been comfortable, but there were worse things to complain about.

"You mentioned needing someone with you to practice against the Madness. Meaning, we'll be resonating with them?" He wasn't thrilled with that idea, even if it had finally gotten him and Qilby on the same wavelength. Technically speaking.
