[OPEN] Mission 155
Characters: Open to those who signed up here.
Location: An unmarked cavern system outside Death City.
Rating: Various.
Time: March 18th, sunrise.
Description: Shibusen agents brave underwater caverns to take out the first of three Madness emitters.
Missiongoers pile out of the mirrors early in the morning, just as the first hints of sun start to color the walls of the sandstone canyon red and purple; it'll be the last bits of real light they'll see for at least a few hours. The atmosphere is electric -- there're quite a few new (and old) arrivals who're eager to see some action, but just as many people who're feeling rather more apprehensive… And for good reason.
The only way to their destination is blocked by a few hundred yards of sunken tunnels. Luckily they've been provided with mouthpieces, breathing apparatuses with enough oxygen to last about ten minutes: more than enough time, provided that the guests don't lose their way in the dimly-lit, twisted caverns. It's as easy as following the person in front of them, right?
Upon emerging safely from the pool onto mostly-dry land, they'll find themselves in an immense cavern, illuminated by countless, blue fungi clinging to the walls and ceiling, looking like stars dotting a night sky. Already the first signs of the way Madness has been corrupting the wildlife are evident: the mushrooms exude strange spores that make some people's head pound the same way the increasingly noticeable Madness wavelength does.
As they travel further into the watery caves and explore its many branches, they'll begin to encounter creatures twisted by Madness: moles, snakes, beetles, centipedes, all grown to monstrous proportions, some with a venomous bite that quickly turns their victim feverish and delirious. The more daring fighters can easily dispatch those and delve even deeper, and it's near the source of the Madness, in the chamber housing the emitter itself, that they'll encounter the kishin eggs.
There're dozens of them-- eyeless, white, vaguely human-shaped things, but despite their blindness they have no problem finding their quarry, fighting with claws and exuding their own Madness wavelength. If the missiongoers can stand strong against the kishin eggs and the ever-present wavelength given off by the Madness emitter, Shibusen's specialists will have enough time to shut the machine down for good.
OOC NOTES.

Aranea forced a smile and took a deep breath. "Yes, I am fine. I was just a bit winded from the trip over." No sooner did she say this that she sat down on a cot and took in a few more breaths, all while keeping her eyes on Yuri. "It's been a very long day, but I can assure you I am fine."

He gave her a once over to make certain that there weren't any visible injuries that she was hiding. There didn't appear to be, and so he nodded his head at her explanation. "Very well," he murmured while she sat down to regain control of her breathing. "Were you out there fighting, Miss...?"

"We were doing fine, but I could tell that I was reaching my limit of exposure to the... madness." She looked out to the entrance, towards the direction of the emitter. Even now she could still feel the subtle pulse of evil blackness emanate from it. "As I am, if I were to continue to pursue it's source I would have probably succumbed."
She returned her gaze to Yuri and offered a genuine smile. "So, I decided that I should return here and offer any aid I can. I may be out of breath, but I still have quite a lot of spirit in me. Perhaps a glass of water and five minutes and I'm yours to do with what you will." She paused to look over the injured resting in their cots. "And by that I mean with helping the injured, naturally." She laughed.

"The madness does pose quite the problem, but I have heard that if you strengthen your soul, that you can withstand the wavelength," the Judge offered while the troll glanced out towards the tunnels that lead to the emitter.
He smiled pleasantly at her laugh. The Judge was far too serious to ever consider 'joking' about such things. That was besides the fact that it would put him on a level of familiarity with others that he clearly didn't wish to have. He had already exposed himself too much to a number of others in this city, that he only had the desire to keep the rest at bay.
"Your aid will be greatly appreciated, Miss---?" He politely said before leaving his statement as a question in an attempt to gain her name.
[ooc: my apologies! I'm not usually this slow. It's assignment time though for my degree, so things are slowing down on my end ._. ]

Unknowing to him, the judge triggered a topic she was all to eager to discuss with someone. "I'm not sure if that belief in the madness is entirely true." Aranea added, a hint of caution in her voice. "The wave manifests as an internal resonance to one's own dark impulses. My hypothesis is that the more unstable the heart and soul are or the more untapped one's uncertainty and shadow self, then the more likely one would be to succumb. One would either need to be completely nonplussed by their emotions or feelings and possess no other ambitions to be unaffected, or... be so entirely achieved with one's own self and personal struggles."
"Exposure could also help, too. This first experience we are at our most vulnerable, of course, but we are further innocent of the effects it would have. Fear or euphoria of that dark self could potentially overwhelm the person, while others may resist and attempt to overcome their own dark impulses. But the real trick of personal mastery and growth is to accept that as an aspect of our own psyche and rely on the strength of our convictions and compassion as motivators to achieve even our baser instincts. All while recognizing those ambitions can be corrupted by the shadow of ourselves."
Oops, she just realized she accidentally expositioned the poor guy. "Well, that's my first impressions anyway."

When it appeared that she'd realised that she'd rambled with her thoughts, he gave a polite smile in return. He kept his thoughts to himself, however, and simply allowed for Aranea to believe whatever she wished without his input. It wasn't his desire or nature to debate over such things, after all. "We all have to start somewhere with our impressions."
no subject
"Ah! But now isn't the time! Now we have to help the people who are injured, right... er... Mr...?" She only just realized that she had offered her name and received none in return. That was quite embarrassing, wasn't it?
no subject
"My apologies, Yuri Petrov," the Judge offered in return before finally turning his attention to the medical area around them. There weren't many here who needed aid just yet, but as he gestured for her to follow, he asked, "Do you have any medical experience?"

"Many within this tent only know how to handle the most basic of medical aid, so your abilities will come in handy if the need arises," Yuri smoothly murmured with in return to her cheerful tone. At the mention of patients being startled by her appearance, the Judge glanced back over towards her as he murmured, "There have been trolls here for quite some time, so most inhabitants of Death City should be accustomed to your appearance."

There weren't trolls in his world, far from it, but there were NEXT who could do rather extraordinary things with their bodies. Granted, while it was different from usual, the Judge hardly classified that as being the same as what she meant.

"Alright." She stated pointedly. "Just point me where I need to go and I'll help."
And that was all there really was to say on the matter.

He would give the man a quick once-over after treating the wounds, but it appeared as though rest was the best form of medicine in that case.
