Description: The time has come for Lau's game night! All are welcome for a round or two (or more) of mahjong, cards, or just to have a drink and some food. Don't forget to bring a dish to share- And some alcohol, if you plan to drink yourself.

Lau's apartment at the Casualty Communal had been rearranged to accommodate his guests for the evening. The couch and chairs had been pushed so their backs were to the window, the coffee table set with several packs of cards and a box of poker chips. The TV and desk had been pushed into the corner to allow space for two square folding tables and four chairs for each, one set with a jumble of mahjong tiles and the other awaiting its game- And even with the additional furniture, he'd left enough space for people to sit at the counter as if it were a bar, facing the space he had left open for food and drinks from his guests. He had set out dumplings, as promised, a kettle on the stove for tea, and a few bottles of juice and various alcohols- vodka, table wine, brandy.

As eight o' clock approached, Lau finally stood back to appreciate his work, smiling as he paced between the tables to make sure there would be enough space for his guests to move around. Everything was just the way he liked, and so he moved to prop open the door, humming a soft tune before pouring himself a drink.

Tonight was going to be fascinating, especially with the medley of people he'd met on his post regarding the event. Nothing could really compare to a night of gambling and the company of others- Especially in the event that said company could be of use to him in this city.

Beginning of the evening

Londo is here for a game... but he has never, ever been one to turn down food or drink. Especially drink. It only makes life more bearable. He sets down what he'd brought, the free stuff afforded to those who don't have a job, and he starts mixing what's there to make something interesting.

"There is nothing like experimentation, yes? In this, that is." He grins at the person nearest him as he asks, filling his glass.

Bakura had brought a box of anpan with him to share and had been setting it down when he caught sight of the chemistry set concoction being mixed together and paused, blinking. "...Do all those mix together well...?" he asked, utterly curious. Not that he knew anything about alcohol, however...

[proudambassador]

"But of course." Londo chuckles. "Would you like to try some?" He takes a quick sip and nods, grinning as he feels the burn. For him to feel it, there has to be something very strong in the mix. "It is like living, yes? Do try." He holds his cup out toward Bakura.

[shiromadoushi]

"Aaaa... no thank you..." Bakura held up his hands slightly on reflex, looking oh so awkward. "That sort of thing... I really shouldn't."

[proudambassador]

"No? You do not like it? It is entirely safe to drink." He pauses. "I mean, it will not kill you." That's an important distinction, he feels. "And it may even make this evening the most glorious of your life thus far, hm?"

[shiromadoushi]

"Aaaa..." Bakura rubbed the back of his neck. "I don't know... I've never had anything like that before... I don't think I'd do so well if I did, really...!"

Okay, so he didn't know a thing about mahjong originally. He bought a set but learning it was a bit of a chore. That doesn't mean that he didn't try to, but Masamune's more likely to win by accident than anything. All he knows are that threes and twos are involved somehow.

The young warlord is just going to be sitting at this table and try and learn on the spot.

Londo sits next to him, looking over at the tiles. "These, they are what you play with? There are no dice, no cards? What do you do with them?" He pokes one in particular, utterly at a loss as what to do with them. "The rules, I hope they will be explained. Or we could look at the pictures and assign rules, hm?"

[coolest]

Who was this dude and why was he just... looking. Bit creepy there, Londo. But Masamune grunts, and holds up three tiles.

"Dice? Cards? Nah. None of that. As far as I can tell you have to get three sets of tiles. Then a pair. That's how you win, apparently."

He hasn't quite figured out exactly how to win, the exact combination of three tiles has been evading him and more often then not Masamune was inches away from chucking a tile at his unfortunate opponent for challenging his "reach" status.

[proudambassador]

"Three sets. Sets of what, hm? The red? The... symbol things? There are too many types, and most of them have barely any differences, hm? It is a most confusing game."

He peered at the tiles as if they would give him their secrets if he looked hard enough. It didn't work. He was disappointed, but not surprised. "I do not understand this game at all."

Most of the evening / Open!

While Bakura was not the best at mahjong, that did not mean he wasn't good at it. Far from it! But he was out of practice, and the type to try and end a game in a tie if he felt the other person would be upset if they lost. After all, the fun was in the playing, right?

He looked almost impossibly cheerful as he unpacked the extra set he had brought with him.

"Ah, I see you brought the set we discussed. How fortunate!"

Lau had wandered over to see Bakura when he heard the sound of tiles, leaning over to get a better look. He was rather thrilled that his little event was turning out well, with all of his plans falling right into place.

"I must thank you again. It would be a far smaller party if only four people could participate in the main event."

[shiromadoushi]

"It was no trouble!" Bakura smiled happily. "The more people who can play, the more fun everyone can have, right?"

[dreamstick]

"Quite so. You never know how many people to expect at an open event like this, either... But I suppose that is half the fun."

He glanced to the kitchen, as if making sure his guests were behaving before turning back to the young man.

"Would you like something to eat or drink? I have water or tea, if you would rather avoid the alcohol."

[shiromadoushi]

"Tea would be lovely, if it's not too much trouble," Bakura smiled warmly. "And I brought some anpan for everyone, it's in the kitchen already, it's the white pastry box," he added.

[game players, watch out! turning away from your tiles for a moment is enough opportunity for Monk to creep in and try to stack them all with like tiles. he's less interested in his interruption of the game and more with getting everything even and matching.

at least he brought something to share? the Windex bottle sitting with the other potluck dishes is his contribution to the gathering.]

[oh thank god, he thought he was alone in a sea of disorder. he looks up briefly before returning to his sorting, speaking as he goes]

This was a horrible idea. Whoever thought this should be a game ought to be jailed for life.

It is a bit chaotic upon seeing it, but there is a certain tactical charm to it.

It would be even more charming if they moved everything in matching stacks.

You know I think there's a variation of the game where one has to match the tiles in order to clear it.
