He never had such memories, especially in his youth. Who would think fondly of the sight of the science facilities and all they contained? Or of the people who had abandoned him when he had been younger? There was nothing there for him on Gaea before he had arrived here, which was why he had wanted to leave in the first place. Yet that wasn't the same for Cloud, and it never would be either.

Sephiroth didn't say anything, but simply remained quiet as Cloud remained where he was. What could he say in regards to that? While he wouldn't wish to be on this world without Cloud, Sephiroth felt no desire to hold the blonde back if he ultimately wanted to return in the end. Yet what would a life be here without the blonde by his side?

[personal profile] de_faulty_hero 2012-06-01 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
He could almost hear the ex-General thinking, and he slowly pulled his face away from the warm crook of Sephiroth's neck to peer up at the silver-haired man next to him. He shifted his body slightly, pressing himself a little more against Sephiroth's side as if gluing himself there.

"I'm not leaving you," he said to cut off any rampant thoughts. "I like it here, and I like exploring this world and making nice memories here with you." He leaned up to placed a quick but warm kiss on Sephiroth's lips. "However, I bet if you dug deep enough inside yourself, you would find memories that you cherish, even if later on, they are tainted by sadness. That point of happiness is important."

[personal profile] pure_lineage 2012-06-01 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Sephiroth would have kept his silence on the entire subject had Cloud not pulled his face away to peer up at him. He didn't want to look into those blue eyes, a gaze that he would long for if the blonde would return, but Sephiroth couldn't stop looking at it either.

The words had his silence remaining, and the quick kiss to his lips caused that small fear to disappear from within. He didn't say anything about Cloud's words even if he clung to every one of them, and as the topic turned to what he found happy, Sephiroth finally glanced away. "Why remember something that was false and fleeting?"

[personal profile] de_faulty_hero 2012-06-01 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
He felt the fear decrease in the ex-General, but he knew that until the war was over and the decision made, it would always be there hidden inside. Sephiroth feared abandonment and expected to be left alone; who wouldn't after so many years where the only constant in his life was Hojo of all people?

Cloud would have crawled into Sephiroth's lap at the point of the words, but he knew better than to shift his arm right now. No, he would have to be content with being glued to Sephiroth's side. "Because at the time the memory was made, it wasn't false or fleeting," he murmured softly. "It's only now jaded by the ideas of an adult's mind. When you were a child, I'm sure he made you happy or as happy as you could be in that situation."

[personal profile] pure_lineage 2012-06-01 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
His silence stretched out as he remained seated there with the blonde pressed up against him. It was difficult to think of any time in his past as 'happy', and while he could understand the logic in Cloud's words, the ex-General couldn't agree with them. That moment had been the first of so many betrayals that he couldn't help but wonder why he'd want such a memory to be considered as such a happy time.

"I can't accept that," Sephiroth found himself quietly saying. He believed that with the entirety of his being, and yet he felt ashamed of his answer and the fact that he felt as though he was letting the younger male down. His face disappeared behind his bangs as he kept it turned away from Cloud, and with a steady voice, the ex-General murmured, "He abandoned me without a second thought and left me to my fate."

"Why would I want to honour someone with tainting that memory so that they can live on innocently within it?" Sephiroth asked before finally regarding Cloud even if his expression was carefully neutral. "I would much prefer to cherish the feelings that are created when I am in your presence here on this world than cling to false memories of the past."

[personal profile] de_faulty_hero 2012-06-04 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
The moment that Sephiroth had started to reply was the moment that Cloud knew it was hopeless. There was too much refusal and bitterness in the ex-General to accept a child-like idea of memories. Perhaps the silver-haired man had never been childish enough to accept anything but the betrayal of what had happened over and over again. One loss after another until Sephiroth was utterly alone.

"Are you so certain it was without a second thought?" He didn't know Gast at all, but he had seen those videos. The man had seemed pleasant and professional, but there seemed to be more of a moral fiber than Hojo. No, he knew that it was impossible to tell what Gast had been thinking at the time.

Looking up at the ex-General, he offered a sad sort of smile before forcing himself to sit up more and plant a kiss on the silver-haired man's cheek. "Then I suppose that this place is your home, and even in war, we'll do what we can for happy memories."

[personal profile] pure_lineage 2012-06-04 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
There was no doubt within his mind that it had been without a second thought. The man had built himself a life after his short escape from ShinRa and had lived contently within it. He had been no fool, and he was no fool right now either. That was why he simply didn't reply to Cloud's question. How could he when even the blonde could realise how happy that man had been with his new family, and just who that family had been.

He felt the glance that Cloud gave him, along with the press of lips against his cheek. The words were a comfort, but he couldn't quite help but feel nothing towards them as the bitter memories of the past circled in his mind. He did what he could to push them away though, and glanced down at the younger male. "So long as you can find such happiness as well."

[personal profile] de_faulty_hero 2012-06-05 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
The silence seemed oppressive to him because he knew that Sephiroth's answer lay within that telling silence. He could agree with the bitterness from the ex-General, but he couldn't bring himself to dislike Gast. The man had been good for Sephiroth, and the man had been Aerith's father, which went a long way for him.

Sephiroth couldn't hide from him, not with their link so strong, and his blue eyes rose to stare at the silver-haired man's inhuman gaze. His own followed the pull to reflect Sephiroth's, and he forced himself to move regardless of the pain in his arm as he straddled Sephiroth's lap. "Our past makes us, even if it is full of anger and bitterness. Never forget what made us who we are, and never forget that I won't leave you behind ever again."

[personal profile] pure_lineage 2012-06-05 10:07 am (UTC)(link)
He didn't even need their link to know what his partner was thinking. While Cloud still fumbled around his thoughts and decisions, the ex-General knew that of his ex-puppet's far too well. This was even especially more when it came to those the blonde considered important to him.

There was a surge of JENOVA cells flaring up within Cloud's body as the blonde's eyes shifted colour and shape. He couldn't bring himself to look at his partner though, and remained with his eyes glanced down until he felt Cloud shifting before there was a weight falling on his lap.

"What are you---" his words trailed off as his eyes flickered up to sight Cloud's face. That look, that expression, had always been his undoing, and it was no different now either. Sephiroth stared at his partner silently before the situation caused his gaze to lower once more. Leaning forward, his forehead came to press against Cloud's as he wordlessly slipped his arms around his partner. "I... do not wish for what we have to end up like everything else has."

[personal profile] de_faulty_hero 2012-06-05 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
His expression remained determined, even defiant, as he stared at the silver-haired man. He set his right hand up against Sephiroth's cheek when his partner was forced to look at him, and he knew within their link that Sephiroth could never resist his expression. It had always been a source of excitement, of breaking down even the best laid plans for a chance to engage him.

He shifted forward, wincing as his left arm bumped against his side, but he wanted to be closer as his right arm lifted to curl around Sephiroth's neck protectively. He knew his partner's greatest fear, and today was a perfect example on how deep it had taken root in the once unmovable man.

"It won't," he murmured softly, resting his chin against Sephiroth's head. "But you do realize that with maintaining what we have that we will have to delve into subjects that we have been avoiding for months." His fingers stroked the back of Sephiroth's neck. "To be stronger, we're going to have to face the past that we shared together."

[personal profile] pure_lineage 2012-06-06 09:23 am (UTC)(link)
Sephiroth felt the spike of pain through Cloud's body as that left arm was jarred in movement. The glare he gave was only halfhearted at best, as he couldn't help but curl up closer against Cloud's body in return. He loathed coming close to these topics. Not only did they leave him feeling opened and exposed, but he felt as though doing so would only drive Cloud away from him.

His grip around Cloud tightened when he heard those words. Pressing his face up against his partner's throat, he tried to take as much comfort as he could from that calming gesture, but Sephiroth found it difficult to do just that.

"I do not wish to drive you away," he muttered softly against Cloud's throat. Sephiroth didn't release the tight hold he had, and breathed a warm shaky breath over his partner's heated skin. "You will remember to loath me once again."

[personal profile] de_faulty_hero 2012-06-06 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
While he might have seen the glare that was offered to him, Cloud was determined to do as he pleased regardless of injury. He wasn't about to stop just because his partner could feel his pain, since it happened more often than not from Sephiroth's end. This was just pay-back, but it also had more to do with his concern.

He shifted his chest in so that his partner could curl against it more, and his arm tightened around the back of Sephiroth's neck. He tried to comfort the ex-General, but he was well-aware of the reality of their situation as well. Soon enough, ignoring it all wasn't going to work. Eventually, not necessarily now, they would have to discuss things that neither of them wanted to.

"I might remember, but I doubt that I'll loathe you again," he replied softly. "We've come too far for that kind of hate. However, even you have to agree that we can't hide from our pasts forever."

[personal profile] pure_lineage 2012-06-06 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
He had been doing everything that he could to ignore the topics and stay as far away from them as possible. Sephiroth knew what returning to such things would dredge up, and he didn't want to lose what he had gained to talk such things through.

Cloud's words didn't comfort him entirely, and he felt a fear spark up within that the blonde would fall back into the hatred he'd once felt upon remembrance of those memories. Sephiroth did what he could to push down those feelings though, and instead focused his thoughts on the words his partner spoke.

Closing his eyes, he kept himself distracted by the warmth pressed up against him as he murmured, "Very well."

[personal profile] de_faulty_hero 2012-06-07 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
It was still easy to sense Sephiroth's fear for what the past might dredge up between them. He was somewhat worried about it as well, but he knew that they would never be able to see if things would work out in the long run if they didn't deal with such matters. Things would always been potentially rocky between them until they had made an effort to mend old bridges just for peace of mind.

He dug his fingers into the thick silver hair, bowing his head to nestle his nose against Sephiroth's head as he offered comfort of his own. He wouldn't push the issue, aware that doing so would only bring up more fear in his partner. No, there had already been too much adventure today.

"Soon, but for now, you have to keep me warm before we get rescued. I don't want to be too cold for when they have to look at my arm."

[personal profile] pure_lineage 2012-06-07 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
He didn't open his eyes, even if he felt Cloud's grip tighten. Sephiroth feared what may come from such discussions, and wondered if his lack of reasoning would eventually drive his partner away. Cloud could sprout all that he desired right now, but would that change once he discovered that there would never be an answer that would ever satisfy him?

"You do not ever have to concern yourself over such a thing," Sephiroth muttered quietly as his face remained pressed up against Cloud's throat.

[personal profile] de_faulty_hero 2012-06-07 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Clearly, the topic of the past or at least the prospect of having to face it with him had upset his partner. He felt bad for that, but he also knew that they would be better and braver men for it. He supposed it wasn't the best time to bring up the subject after he had almost been killed. Perhaps he had done it selfishly too.

He nestled in close to Sephiroth, both protective of the man and needing warmth from him. "I know, but I'm still cold," he murmured, though he had warmed considerably.

[personal profile] pure_lineage 2012-06-07 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Sephiroth opened his eyes at the mention of his partner still being cold. Reaching over for his strained wing, he pulled the appendage more tightly around his partner. He couldn't allow for Cloud's body temperature to drop, and his concern for his partner detracted away from the pain he felt from the movement.

"They'll be here soon," he murmured softly between them.

[personal profile] de_faulty_hero 2012-06-07 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Even from his position, he could tell Sephiroth's concern. He shifted in closer to his partner, settling into the ex-General's lap and buckered down for the long wait for retrieval. No doubt it would take a few hours to get everyone out, and then he knew that he would be forced to go to the clinic.

"I know, but I don't care because I have you," he murmured with a careless shrug of his shoulders. "We'll wait as long as we have to."

[personal profile] pure_lineage 2012-06-07 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
The continuous strain on his wing from the pull proved to be a nice distraction from their previous conversation. It was obvious that he was on borrowed time, but with their conversation looming over head, that feeling only seemed to become more of a reality.

"I cannot heal your injury," Sephiroth muttered softly in return. His role in life had never been to save lives, but to take them after all.

[personal profile] de_faulty_hero 2012-06-07 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
He stayed close, aware of the tension that he had brought up between them. It was better this way instead of dropping the subject on his partner without notice. He wanted Sephiroth to think about it, but he didn't want it to rule his partner's life. Still, they'd talk about it eventually, and he would no doubt have to lead the way.

"Ah well... we can do a splint job and leave it for a little while, yeah?" In that way, there was no need to go to the clinic.

[personal profile] pure_lineage 2012-06-07 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Sephiroth knew that he should have splintered the injury after discovering it, but the near-loss of his partner had caused him to lose focus on everything else. It had been impossible to focus on his duties, and he couldn't help but feel as if he had failed Cloud and himself in that regard. Granted, it was probably more linked to the vulnerable moment, but he wasn't willing to let himself off that easily.

"I should go and locate something to splint it with," he murmured while lightly indicating for Cloud to shift himself off.

[personal profile] de_faulty_hero 2012-06-07 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
The indication was made, but Cloud made no move to shift away. Quite the opposite, he pressed himself closer, held on tighter and even moved his damaged arm closer to them. A shiver of pain ran up the length of his arm and across his shoulders, but he was settled in and refusing to move.

"When we get back," he murmured in reply. "Let them come and rescue us, and then we can go to the apartment and splint it there." Thus avoiding the clinic too.

[personal profile] pure_lineage 2012-06-07 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Cloud didn't seemed to be interested in moving from what he could see, and the jolt of pain that ran through the younger male's body prevented him from forcing the issue. His partner was in enough pain as it was already that he didn't need more. Besides, some selfish part of him didn't want to be away from Cloud even for a moment.

"If you're sure..." Sephiroth muttered before shaking his head. "You'll need to get your arm inspected."

[personal profile] de_faulty_hero 2012-06-07 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
He was pleased that Sephiroth didn't force the issue of him moving, which caused him to relax after awhile and lean heavily against the ex-General's body. After he had nearly died and Sephiroth had saved him, he wasn't willing to be too far away. He'd wait for rescue before moving again unless Sephiroth made it clear that him sitting like this made his partner uncomfortable.

"You can inspect it when we get back," he murmured softly. "The clinic is for sick people."

[personal profile] pure_lineage 2012-06-07 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"I am no doctor, Cloud," Sephiroth reminded him even if they were both aware of that fact. Pressing his lips to the front of his partner's throat, the arm he had around Cloud's waist tightened subtly as the blonde spoke of the clinic.

He loathed anything to do with such establishments, but he was aware of his own limitations. "I would prefer for your arm to heal properly. There is only so much that I can do, and I do not wish for you to lose any mobility in your arm."
