Description: It's a housewarming party and a New Year party wrapped into one big celebration!

They hadn't bothered with much decoration, though Rhode had insisted on a bit of shiny garland around the doorframe so people would know exactly where they were supposed to come. Mukuro had bought champagne (and stronger things, for the guests who preferred them) and Rhode had made sure they had a nice little setup of sweets and fruit, including some cake and tarts she'd baked herself. After some struggle, she'd even asked Mukuro to help her figure out how to turn on the stereo for the sake of having atmosphere music.

The leftmost bedroom door is shut, but the rest of the apartment has been left open to nosy guests!

[Except Kurapika was also invited, which means he's also lurking near Kuroro at any given point in time, watching the older man worriedly while trying not to look too worried. Back at their flat, in a different flat, it doesn't matter, they only moved locations. But Kuroro would be correct in thinking that he wouldn't approach as readily as he would have if they'd remained in their own unit.]

[He's deliberately not paying Kurapika any attention, not paying anyone any attention, really. He just looks like he's watching people, but he's really not.]

[He finally manages to think of something to say, but it's really more for the sake of trying to strike up a conversation, anything. This silent sullen Kuroro is something he doesn't really know how to deal with.]

Alcohol isn't a good idea when you're depressed.

I'm not depressed. [mildly] And there isn't enough alcohol in this.

Then why are you drinking stuff that would burn holes through someone else's stomach?

I drink it when it's there. Just because I don't actively look for it doesn't mean I don't. [Hrm.]

[For someone so sharp, Kuroro can be incredibly obtuse at times.]

Don't drink too much just because there's a lot and you can handle it. You're not in our world anymore.

If I can handle it, why can't I do it? [Sometimes you nag without any sense, Kurapika.] The operative phrase there is 'can handle it'.

[Kurapika doesn't have an immediate reply. The truth is, he doesn't really care if Kuroro gets himself plastered here, only the reason he's trying to get himself plastered is what's causing all this disapproval. To drown oneself in drink because of a sulk that can be dealt with in other better, more productive ways is just wrong for him. But he has no idea how to say it without disassociating himself from that belief.]

[He takes another drink, either because he's being an asshole or he's just done with the conversation, but he reaches out to ruffle Kurapika's hair with his free hand after. Well, it's supposed to be a ruffle, but Kuroro's not really in the mood so his hand just ends up resting there. At least he got it up?]

Go see Rhode.

[The halfhearted attempt at reassuring him is appreciated, but oddly saddening. It's enough to get him to back off for now, at least. He pulls away when it seems that Kuroro's hand will just rest on top of his head like he's just a countertop, and slips off to go find the girl.]
