Phase 3: Mission 153

Characters: Grand Canyon mission goers, victims, medics
Location: Grand Canyon
Rating: R
Time: Feb 5, 2009, mission starts at dawn
Description: Event links list.

The scouts had done their jobs well and the mirror deposits its travelers just at the end of the area Shibusen has closed off as their mission target. It's still dawn, the sun barely visible over the horizon. The witches hasn't noticed them there yet, the scouts say, so it's still possible to take them by surprise.

This is what the agents are told: In the rock face of the Grand Canyon is a cavern system made up of many small caves and three large ones. The large caves contain a kishin egg pit, the kidnapped agents and civilians, and what appears to be a machine at one end. There are about five dozen zombies crawling the area, and an equal number of ants, spiders, and ravens on top of it.

Worst of all, the scouts report that they had sighted a few of the agents patrolling for the Witches. The scouts hadn't been certain if these ones had soul perception or other abilities, and had given the area as much space as they could in order to avoid an early confrontation. Still, it's bad news and it looks like a fight with some of the kidnappees themselves is inevitable.

Not much time is given to the agents after the briefing before they're being ushered into place. A few scouts are going to be causing a commotion some distance away to distract the familiars and zombies, clearing a path for the agents. After that, it's all up to them.

[ooc: Just put up your own threads with the subject line [Characters][Feeding Cave/MMM Cave/Kishin Egg Pit/Elsewhere][Open/Close]
Kidnappees can go thread in the caves while waiting for the rescuers, too.
For those who want to thread with a witch, please add it in the subject line so we know where to go!
This day change will be one week irl.
The mirror will stay open for anyone who needs to be rushed back to the medics.
For those handwaving, please put your summaries here for the meister points and soul tally record.]

"Just touch them?" He looked at his hands, instinctively flexing them into fists and back to check if anything felt different than before. It didn't really, but then again he wasn't trying to hit anything. "I'm pretty good with that if that's all. I've been fighting without weapons most of the time before I came here."

"I think that's it." He spoke perfectly honest. "There might be more eventually, but you should only need to touch them. It's sort of like the power I had back home."

"Alright." He took a deep breath and nodded once, both to himself and his temporary 'partner'. "Let's do this."

He started walking towards the entry of the caves that held some of their friends and a whole lot of nasty things that wanted to gnaw on their bones.

"Okay, let's go." Allen was more than ready to go rescue everyone, although he was definitely still shaky in his weapon form. He watched from Leo's face as he brought them into the cave, studying their surroundings.

At first they walked still close to other groups but the further they got inside the cave, the more people began to split up. Watching them go their own ways, Leo silently thought to himself 'Stupid. Why are they moving all over the place when those monsters can be everywhere? Don't humans have no survival-'

His monologue was cut off when a pained yell followed by an inhuman shout echoed through the corridor they were moving in from the other end. "Shit!" Focusing and trying to channel his thought to Allen, he asked 'What should we do? Try'n look for what that was or keep our heads down and look for your friends?' Moving on without finding the source of that nasty sounds sounded more appealing to him, if he had to be entirely honest. A big part of his survival strategy entailed not getting himself into danger unless he had a good reason to.

Allen had been intent on pushing forward, even if it meant splitting off from the others, but that sound threw him off. If he was in human form he would have frowned, unsure which way to go next. On the one hand, they weren't certain anyone was down that way, and they may not be strong enough to fight anything just yet. On the other hand... what if there could be someone down there who could be hurt? Someone they hadn't heard yet?

"Let's go that way," he decided after a long pause, "We should stop whatever it is before it can hurt anyone."

"Yeah. Let's just hope that that anyone doesn't include us." He grimaced, but obediently turned and moved towards the direction the noise had come from. At first his pace was still normal and hurried but the closer they came to the corridor the noises had originated from, the more the Half switched to a slower way of moving that was somehow ducked and with an animalic skill of preventing any noises of their own that would have warned whatever might or might not still be there on the other side of the rocky wall.

Coming to a halt, Leo inhaled sharply. The air was soaked with the tell-tale tangy odor of blood. "Do you smell that? Blood, and not little." Without him noticing, his lips drew back to bear his fangs. "I doubt anybody's still alive over there." Clenching his fists, he ducked and sneaked closer. Having come that far, the half-lion wanted to at least see what was going on. (It was definitely not because he wanted to make sure that they weren't abandoning anybody who might still be alive despite the odds of having that much blood spilled that it made the air stink. Or so he tried to tell himself.)
