The scouts had done their jobs well and the mirror deposits its travelers just at the end of the area Shibusen has closed off as their mission target. It's still dawn, the sun barely visible over the horizon. The witches hasn't noticed them there yet, the scouts say, so it's still possible to take them by surprise.
This is what the agents are told: In the rock face of the Grand Canyon is a cavern system made up of many small caves and three large ones. The large caves contain a kishin egg pit, the kidnapped agents and civilians, and what appears to be a machine at one end. There are about five dozen zombies crawling the area, and an equal number of ants, spiders, and ravens on top of it.
Worst of all, the scouts report that they had sighted a few of the agents patrolling for the Witches. The scouts hadn't been certain if these ones had soul perception or other abilities, and had given the area as much space as they could in order to avoid an early confrontation. Still, it's bad news and it looks like a fight with some of the kidnappees themselves is inevitable.
Not much time is given to the agents after the briefing before they're being ushered into place. A few scouts are going to be causing a commotion some distance away to distract the familiars and zombies, clearing a path for the agents. After that, it's all up to them.

Knowing whether or turn left or right at the next bend is probably more than I know right now. [To be fair.
Shizuo blinked as Cybele suddenly broke into a run, before glancing back at Magoichi.]
... Don't think we should lose sight of her.
[Whether she knew this place or not, Cybele could definitely sense something. Witches, kishin or prisoners he didn't know, but it was probably wiser to follow her rather than run around blind. Maybe.
... All right, he had no fucking clue what would be wiser, but at least he could probably ask her to look for Motochika's soul before they left her to do her thing. Either way, he was running after her, trying to keep up.]

[With that simple (albeit rude) acknowledgement, Magoichi ran after Shizuo. Speed and stamina are seldom issues for her, but there's no need to expend any more energy than necessary. If there was danger up ahead, she would have more time to react. Keeping a level pace, she could better memorize the route they'd taken and the one they must take to return if and when necessary. It was simple strategic planning.
Still, the sudden change in Cybele's speed bothered the mercenary.]
She knows something that we don't.

Hey, is this the best you can do?!
[He was bleeding from several different wounds, but he could still maintain that blood thirsty grin on his face as he punched a kishin that got a little bit too close.
He didn't have the luxury of being able to pay attention to his surroundings which would have alerted him that he wasn't going to be alone for long.]

The noise was getting louder, but it wasn't Motochika she was interested in, but what he was fighting. The smell of blood was strong to her, and as she drew in closer, she chanted a spell beneath her breath.
Those coming in behind her would have seen a flash of something, but it was Motochika that would see the results of Cybele's spell as vines whipped up from beneath where he and the Kishin Egg stood. They snapped up to tightly bind the creature's limbs before yanking the beast away from the man while the group approached.
Without an ounce of hesitation, the Witch leapt over the edge and down into the pit to deal with the few Kishin Eggs around.
Little did they all know that there were other Kishin Eggs heading their way.]
