Phase 3: Mission 153

Characters: Grand Canyon mission goers, victims, medics
Location: Grand Canyon
Rating: R
Time: Feb 5, 2009, mission starts at dawn
Description: Event links list.

The scouts had done their jobs well and the mirror deposits its travelers just at the end of the area Shibusen has closed off as their mission target. It's still dawn, the sun barely visible over the horizon. The witches hasn't noticed them there yet, the scouts say, so it's still possible to take them by surprise.

This is what the agents are told: In the rock face of the Grand Canyon is a cavern system made up of many small caves and three large ones. The large caves contain a kishin egg pit, the kidnapped agents and civilians, and what appears to be a machine at one end. There are about five dozen zombies crawling the area, and an equal number of ants, spiders, and ravens on top of it.

Worst of all, the scouts report that they had sighted a few of the agents patrolling for the Witches. The scouts hadn't been certain if these ones had soul perception or other abilities, and had given the area as much space as they could in order to avoid an early confrontation. Still, it's bad news and it looks like a fight with some of the kidnappees themselves is inevitable.

Not much time is given to the agents after the briefing before they're being ushered into place. A few scouts are going to be causing a commotion some distance away to distract the familiars and zombies, clearing a path for the agents. After that, it's all up to them.

[ooc: Just put up your own threads with the subject line [Characters][Feeding Cave/MMM Cave/Kishin Egg Pit/Elsewhere][Open/Close]
Kidnappees can go thread in the caves while waiting for the rescuers, too.
For those who want to thread with a witch, please add it in the subject line so we know where to go!
This day change will be one week irl.
The mirror will stay open for anyone who needs to be rushed back to the medics.
For those handwaving, please put your summaries here for the meister points and soul tally record.]

Tassadar wasn't certain if he had answered her question correctly, but given the lack of annoyance or negativity, it appeared as though he had. The truth be told, he had never considered what they had formed as anything that had 'bothered' him. In the beginning it had been out of necessity to make certain she was not the Queen of Blades, but that necessity had transformed into genuine curiosity before evolving into whatever it was that lingered between them now. What that was, Tassadar had once thought he knew, but now he was just as uncertain as he'd been when all of this had first occurred.

"Is that your only reason?" The templar found himself asking as he sighted one of the first spiders up ahead. They were of no threat to either of them, which was why he found his attention more focused on the redhead on his shoulder than the arachnid threat.

For her, the spiders were just darker outlines in the shadow of the caves. They were also a little more obvious to her eyes against the backdrop of the webbing that was creating a funnel all the way around the cave. It seemed to her that a good bout of fire would rid themselves of the annoyance and light the way for her.

Glancing at him at his returned question, she raised an eyebrow before lightly flicking one of his nerve cords. "My reasons are my own, and no that's not the only one," she hissed, turning her face away. She couldn't admit that she worried for him, that his disappearance while a betrayal had made her worry that he had left her behind. Doing that would be forced to admit how much she had come to enjoy his company, his wise words and his solid presence that would temper her anger.

The touch to his nerve cord was something he only allowed those he trusted to do. They were, after all, the part of them that allowed his people to access the connection they had with the Khala. While they could live without them, they were important to all Protoss who followed that path.

Her answer, and the hissed tone used, had him considering what she had said. He respected the privacy and reasoning for most, and this was one of them. Zeratul had once told him that he was an open book, one that anyone could read unlike the Prelate's tightly bound secrets, and it was something that Tassadar had to agree on. While he was respectful and cautious, Tassadar felt no need to hold anything back when it came to himself. Yet while he desired the knowledge of those he considered close to him, the templar would never push to obtain such answers, but would be content with what they gave him.

That was why, as he suddenly began charging in right towards the first spider, he offered in return as he swiped out at the first threat, "I never would have returned to this place, had it not been for your presence or that of Selendis'."

She wanted to get angry at his complete acceptance of her need for privacy on such things to do with her interpersonal relationships. He never pushed her, which was rare in this day and age, and even more rare, he didn't get offended when she refused him answers. It was infuriating, but there was a comfort as well to knowing that Tassadar was an individual who let her come to him when she needed it. He was one of the very few even here.

Yet, his words were so honest, and it made her rethink how she had treated his return. Terrans were selfish, and she most of all had given so much. She was still selfish, and her pain had been very real to her. What would she had done if both Tassadar and Selendis left? There would be no one else to know anything of the memories she now carried within her.

"Then we have best find Selendis quickly," she replied as she suddenly rolled backwards off of his shoulder to settle on the ground behind him. "She owes you a scolding," she added, though her tone was light as she began to ease around his taller form to take on an ant near his legs.

He felt his claws carve into the flesh of the spider he'd attacked. There were no feelings within at his actions. He had been fighting in wars for centuries, and this war was nothing in comparison to the ones he'd been in in the past.

The weight disappeared off of his shoulder and drew his attention momentarily as Kerrigan moved in to attack an ant. Glancing down at the Ghost, he regarded her quietly before offering the other a nod. He would be expecting one, but for now, they had to try and find her first.

Sarah had no doubt that Tassadar needed no help at all taking on the mindless creatures in this part of the cave. However, his size made him vulnerable, and she being closer to the ground would protect his legs. Plus, she couldn't well be useful perched on his shoulder.

She pulled two knives from her belt and attacked the ant in front of her, removing pincers first and then going for legs. They had to find Selendis because she was concerned for Tassadar being alone here.

Tassadar remained only partly mindful of Kerrigan's actions as they moved. The last thing he wanted to do was to accidentally step on her or knock her over, which was why he remained careful with each placement of his feet whenever he moved forward to attack.

Slashing out at one of the spiders on the wall, he reached out with his other hand to rip the arachnid from the wall before ripping the creature in half and tossing it behind them. It would take them some time to move forward through their defence, but he wouldn't let anything stop him from reaching the very depths of this hideout.

She moved among Tassadar's shifting legs with an odd ease, staying out of his way but also slipping between them and around them to slash at zergling sized ants and spiders, keeping them from attacking him down low.

Of course, the only problem with being down low as she was would be the extra spatter from Tassadar's rather effective attacks. Still, she didn't mind, his body and arm length protecting her from getting dropped on, so they continued to fight in a strange unison.

When it appeared that they'd cleared out the area, the templar pushed himself forward. For every piece of ground their gained, there was a trail of bodies littering the ground behind them. He was fortunate to have avoided stepping on the Ghost as they continued to move, and didn't miss the fact that despite being unconventional, their tactics seemed to be working.
