[Event] Invasion!
Characters: OPEN to everyone!
Location: All over Death City
Rating: Various
Time: February 2nd
Description: Witches have invaded and are attacking the city!
The attack, when it comes, happens quickly enough that Death City would have been caught flat-footed had there been no prior warning, but it's not completely unexpected because of the city's heightened state of alarm the past day. Warning sirens start sounding to alert the citizens and guests the moment a dark, slow-moving mass out in the desert to the south-east of Death City is spotted by Shibusen sentries. There's even time for civilians to run and hide before the mass is identified as an army of what looks like decaying, shambling corpses. The city's defenders are slow to move, however; most of them are distracted and are having trouble dealing with the black blood in their bodies. While agents are gathering to head out to deal with the zombie threat, that's when the witches make their move.
Portals begin opening in the skies above the city, disgorging hideous familiars: bulbous spiders and leggy ants the size of dogs. They drop hundreds of feet down into the streets and alleyways of Death City, and scuttle off in search of victims. The spiders are poisonous and can spin copious amounts of web to capture their targets, the ants spit acid that cause agonizing, paralyzing pain. Their masters bear down on the city in a cloud of black shadows--massive ravens strong enough to carry off adult men. There are five witches, women on broomsticks, beautiful if not for their crazed grins and obvious glee at the chaos descending upon the city. At some unknown signal--maybe the cackling from a couple of them--they dive in concert and disappear into different areas of the city.
Their masterful plan has begun!

HEY! Are you using me to beat undead things, you scoundrel! Keep me clean!
HAHAHA oh god, sorry Megumi. The poor dear.
Megumi would probably have trouble seeing anything for a while through the thick shirt material, but she would grow less messy as Kanji worked.
When the last of the horde went down, he quickly ascended the ladder.
We're gonna take out that spider without breakin' a sweat! Fortunately for them, they would take the spider by surprise, as it was busy wrapping up a future meal. The balcony was small and a little risky to fight something with poison-filled fangs, but Kanji didn't care about that right now.
He hoped she wasn't arachnophobic.

But Kanji was already punching, and Megumi, nauseated at the very sight of the huge spider and it's furry body and many eyes, was losing her breakfast in her weapon-space. She wasn't sure where something you vomited in weapon-space went-- and she didn't care to know. It floated away and she tried not to look.
That spider, with the poison, she thought at Kanji, when she had regained her composure as best she could. I wonder if we might need to harvest a little to make an antidote. I wish I had a jar or some vials.

's just a bug! He called over the link.
No matter how big they get, you can stomp the shit out of 'em! And stomp he did, bringing his foot down between the many eyes of the hairy creature. The added strength of resonance was enough to render the move the killing blow, and the spider was still, legs curling inward on reflex.
Kanji lowered his arm as his stomach settled, and he reached into the gray box in his coat pocket for his knife. It would take time, but it was all he had as he started cutting the wrapped captive's bindings.
...Nothin' like that in that case you carried on your back? He knew enough that the venom of a creature was carried in a sac behind the fangs. Though it'd be... maybe a little too gross for his liking, Kanji wondered if he should pry one out and see if Shibusen's medics would have a use for its contents.

There are vials like that in my case-- but, hold on, why are you using past tense, she realized with some dread. I don't have my medicine chest inside here. Don't you have it out there? The fact of the matter was, Megumi hadn't thought about what would happen to her precious chest if she transformed. Now it was back on the pavement, lying whereever she and Kanji had been when she had transformed for him.

He cut the last of the webbing, freeing the terrified but living captive. The spiders weren't much for feeding on a cold, dead captive... that's part of why they ignored the zombies for the most part.
"Did it bite you?" He asked the captive, who shook her head. Kanji breathed a sigh of relief.
"Get inside n' stay there until this shit passes," he said then, banging on the sliding glass door next to them. Those living inside, too terrified to open the door with the spider there before, opened up to let the person inside.
Kanji waved off the imploring look he was given: He wasn't heading to shelter yet. He was going to fight this until the Witches withdrew or were all dead.
The teen cringed when he grabbed one of the dead spider's fangs and pulled, and like a loose tooth it was freed, the venom sac attached and intact. He vaulted off of the balcony and made his way back to the medicine chest as the sun's light was suddenly dimmed...
A cloud of the giant ravens was passing overhead, and three of them swooped low to find targets for capture.

That venom, we could use it to make an antidote for anyone who's been bitten or otherwise exposed. That is, if they haven't been eaten as well. I'm not sure how likely it is, but... it's worth a try if it even saves one.
As they made their way down the street Megumi was distracted from the birds' approach by looking for casualties or anyone who was injured. The ground was a mess with ant and spider corpses and fallen zombies, making it difficult to pick out what was what. Not only that, but Kanji was a much faster runner than she was. It was weird to move at this speed.

He was a rather quick-footed kid. With his longer legs and bullheadedness, he could cover rather impressive distances when he needed to... including eluding police pursuit. Kanji liked his shoes, however, and avoided stepping in the gore and over stray limbs when he could.
He skidded at the corner, making the quick turn. There rest the medicine chest Megumi carried at her back, left behind when she entered her weapon form. Kanji yanked his sleeve back, exposing the dark red arm guard as he held his arm out. If she wished to change back, now was the time.
Just then, beady eyes noted the presence of a rather distracted Meister. One raven cawed to its friend, who cawed back. Their mistress would be pleased. Adjusting their wings, they circled around and doubled back in preparation.

Takani-san, listen to me, and you listen good! He spoke quickly.
Turn back to normal, take the box n' get outta here, stay low-- And his soul lurched in pain as talons sunk into his shoulders. Kanji swung his arms to try and throw a punch, but the hold was too firm this time, too true... he could hardly move the limbs. Massive black wings beat to try and gain altitude.

"You let go, you giant beast," she shouted at the giant bird, hanging on for dear life with both arms and shaking its leg as hard as she could in hopes of making it lose its grip on Kanji's shoulders. If she could only let go with one hand, she could whip out her scalpel to stab the bird with... but unfortunately it was hard enough to hold on with two hands. Megumi could already feel her grip slipping, that would mean that bird would take Kanji and win.
Megumi was out of ideas. Desperate to help, she tried biting down on the bird's leg, angry tears welling up in her eyes.

The bird gave more of an angry caw than anything else when it felt a pinch, Megumi's teeth a pinch but little else against scaly feet with smooth, almost chitinous plating. With a hard flap and extended wings, the raven rode a pillar of warm air to gain altitude, in the meantime readjusting its grip. The struggling boy would take up one talon... the girl, the other, and it was surprisingly careful in trying not to drop them: Mistress wanted Guests alive.
Despite trying to reach, trying to hit some part of the bird, Kanji watched with steadily-growing frustration as Death City grew smaller below, then behind him.
Was he right? Was the bird going to drop them miles out in the desert? He suddenly wished he'd attended Auron's survival class.

Aaaand fin. :c
Kanji ground his teeth and continued to struggle. If he could just loosen the grip, he could figure out how to turn this stupid bird around and bring the both of them back to the City. This was a stupid and aimless idea by all means, but as the City continued to disappear in the distance, their chances of survival would lessen exponentially. He'd carry the unconscious doctor on his back if he had to, running through the sand as quick... q-quick...
That sensation of his energy draining out of him finally caught up with him. His legs began to feel like lead at first, and then they were still. Then, his arms went slack. Though he fought to push back that fog that creeped into his vision, it was all ready too late. As Megumi was inadvertently using his soul energy to recharge, the all-ready-exhausted Kanji slipped into a deep and dreamless sleep, carried in the talons of the giant raven.
