[Event] Invasion!
Characters: OPEN to everyone!
Location: All over Death City
Rating: Various
Time: February 2nd
Description: Witches have invaded and are attacking the city!
The attack, when it comes, happens quickly enough that Death City would have been caught flat-footed had there been no prior warning, but it's not completely unexpected because of the city's heightened state of alarm the past day. Warning sirens start sounding to alert the citizens and guests the moment a dark, slow-moving mass out in the desert to the south-east of Death City is spotted by Shibusen sentries. There's even time for civilians to run and hide before the mass is identified as an army of what looks like decaying, shambling corpses. The city's defenders are slow to move, however; most of them are distracted and are having trouble dealing with the black blood in their bodies. While agents are gathering to head out to deal with the zombie threat, that's when the witches make their move.
Portals begin opening in the skies above the city, disgorging hideous familiars: bulbous spiders and leggy ants the size of dogs. They drop hundreds of feet down into the streets and alleyways of Death City, and scuttle off in search of victims. The spiders are poisonous and can spin copious amounts of web to capture their targets, the ants spit acid that cause agonizing, paralyzing pain. Their masters bear down on the city in a cloud of black shadows--massive ravens strong enough to carry off adult men. There are five witches, women on broomsticks, beautiful if not for their crazed grins and obvious glee at the chaos descending upon the city. At some unknown signal--maybe the cackling from a couple of them--they dive in concert and disappear into different areas of the city.
Their masterful plan has begun!

Kanji gave the dragonhead-tipped cane a twirl and was ready to roll, that stubborn and more-than-a-little-reckless soul wavelength establishing a connection with hers. It would be fuzzy, but stable enough to handle what lay before them.
Got it, he replied over the connection, and immediately whirled on the undead to the left. Terezi was worlds above the lead pipe he'd been using up until now, as with a strong horizontal swing he managed to dent three zombie skulls in a row. A fourth was given a swing into the gut with the other end to stop it, and after grasping the cane in both hands, swung it like a bat. That zombie didn't have a head anymore.
Their path cleared, he made a break for clearer ground. Kanji had never resonated with her before... if he could just get a moment to breathe, he could work to strengthen the connection and only add to the damage they could put out.

Left!

But he's an effective dimwit. The troll called left, and Kanji looked left immediately. There was an ant coming down from a nearby building, mandibles open wide in anticipation. He saw the thing heave and made a quick sidestep. He'd had skin contact with that crap it sprayed from its mouth... was that acid...? Well, either way, it hurt!
While it recovered from heaving its stomach contents, he charged in and went to finish the job... but the ant was faster this time, the mandibles clicked noisily as it tried for a successful bite, the strength behind the jaws enough to cause some damage if he wasn't careful.
Kanji just had to wait for an opening... he couldn't swing Terezi's Weapon Form and have them clamp down on her, either.

Do you think you're fast enough?

Why not? His style may be slower, but he was definitely quick on his feet... and resonance at any level helped him with this immensely. His opportunity finally came when the ant prepared to heave another stream of acid. Taking the cane in both hands, he brought the bottom end sweeping upward to catch the underside of its head, and backed off quickly.
With its head thrown back, the ant sprayed airward, and what goes up must come down.
You got a Partner we should keep an eye out for? He knew that plenty of pairs were split up in the sudden attack... the least he could do as a rookie Meister was make sure any he happened upon were reunited.

His name is Dave. He's my age, but human. I have no idea where he is, though!

This part of the street cleared, he moved on once he caught his second wind. He heard the signature cry of the large ravens overhead, and he wanted no part in what plans the Witch familiars had today. If he remained on the move, the chance slimmed that he would be grabbed.
