[Event] Invasion!
Characters: OPEN to everyone!
Location: All over Death City
Rating: Various
Time: February 2nd
Description: Witches have invaded and are attacking the city!
The attack, when it comes, happens quickly enough that Death City would have been caught flat-footed had there been no prior warning, but it's not completely unexpected because of the city's heightened state of alarm the past day. Warning sirens start sounding to alert the citizens and guests the moment a dark, slow-moving mass out in the desert to the south-east of Death City is spotted by Shibusen sentries. There's even time for civilians to run and hide before the mass is identified as an army of what looks like decaying, shambling corpses. The city's defenders are slow to move, however; most of them are distracted and are having trouble dealing with the black blood in their bodies. While agents are gathering to head out to deal with the zombie threat, that's when the witches make their move.
Portals begin opening in the skies above the city, disgorging hideous familiars: bulbous spiders and leggy ants the size of dogs. They drop hundreds of feet down into the streets and alleyways of Death City, and scuttle off in search of victims. The spiders are poisonous and can spin copious amounts of web to capture their targets, the ants spit acid that cause agonizing, paralyzing pain. Their masters bear down on the city in a cloud of black shadows--massive ravens strong enough to carry off adult men. There are five witches, women on broomsticks, beautiful if not for their crazed grins and obvious glee at the chaos descending upon the city. At some unknown signal--maybe the cackling from a couple of them--they dive in concert and disappear into different areas of the city.
Their masterful plan has begun!

"Can you even believe this flaming wreck," he gasps as he uses the cane to shove a few more back, buy them some time. "This always happens, every time I take three grubwalloping steps away from Selendis, some horde of flesh-eating bugshit nightmares always descends on the goddamn city!" He dispatches another, but he's definitely slowing down. "We could probably hold off the invasion indefinitely if I tied myself to her damn back or something, it's like, what the actual screaming fuck does every layer of paradox space seem to have against me being able to find my partner when shit's going down?"
Rant over, Karkat starts to realize he doesn't feel too good at all. When he checks his side, his hand comes away red even through the shirt. Shit. He popped his stitches.
He immediately holds Terezi out so she can change back.
"Yeah, okay. Your turn."
no subject
I told you, she replies, because clearly there is no better time to be a know-it-all. She transforms back immediately though, giving his hand a quick squeeze. "I need to show you how to fight with a cane sometime. Hurry up!" At least his injuries can't get any worse while he's transformed, right?

Before he gets any time to start overthinking that mess again, the moaning mass of undead snaps him back out of it. Just because he's in the middle of a romantic crisis doesn't mean the zombies stop being a thing that's trying to eat them or anything, after all. He focuses, letting his new perception get a better read on the crowd, and reports back to Terezi.
"They're thinning out! If you can cull some of the ones behind you, I think we can break through before they clot up and clog the path too much!"
no subject
She turns at his instructions, taking a small step back as she hefts the axe. It can't be that hard, right? So she swings it just like she would her cane, except that Karkat is much heavier than any cane she's ever used, and the extra weight unbalances her. She's forced to step forward to catch herself, and though the blade bites into the zombie's neck, it sort of... sticks. As stupid as it sounds, Terezi wasn't quite expecting that. Apparently her swing wasn't enough to sever the thing's head completely. She yanks Karkat out, accompanied by a rather sickening noise. "Ughhhh." Man, he is lucky he doesn't have to smell this. At least the zombie is dead, though.
no subject
With that in mind, he grinds his teeth and forces himself to stay in axe form despite every impulsive nerve in his body screaming at him to change back and drag Terezi out of this. It's easy enough to figure out what to do with an axe. He has a blade at both ends. She's smart enough to figure--
THOCK.
Karkat pulled a horrified face as Terezi sunk him into a zombie neck. No words, just a a look of unspeakable horror as he was wrenched back out. They were both going to come out of this smelling like a well-cultivated decorative vegetation sector, he could already tell.
no subject
"See?" She's totally got this. Another one goes down, and she's managed to make an opening they can totally escape through, except that her nose is so filled with the overpowering stench of decay that she doesn't notice the thing behind her.
no subject
...only to find the rest of the city in chaos, with undead and oversized insects everywhere.
"Holy shrieking mother of fuck."
no subject
Terezi is... Actually speechless for a second. Then she turns to Karkat, frowning. "I told you this was a stupid idea." She's not really looking for an argument, though. She tugs him towards a doorway, where at least they'll be relatively out of sight and kneels down, leaning a little closer to his side than she would have had to normally. Even with the scent of the zombies all over, though, it isn't hard to smell that familiar, sickly sweet cherry odor seeping through the fabric. "You ripped out your stitches, didn't you?" Check out that disapproving tone!
no subject
He pressed his hand to his side and made a face as even through his shirt fabric it came away red. "It's not any big screaming deal," he grumbled, "just another setback. We should be used to those, they come up about as often as saliva-coated shitwits post on the network."
